While i listened to this video i realized that the past doesn’t matter that much and i don’t need to overthink the future. I don’t need to waste my time on worrying the past. brittany, before we incarnated in this world, we agreed to meet everything that we have met in our life, we also agreed to deal with them in love and not hate. but the beings that send us here, helps us along , by sending spirit guides to assist us , and also bring some of our situations to an end, and give us the opportunity to start over. we should grab these opportunities to start over , realizing that, everything that happen to us, happened so that we could be a higher consciousness being. and live in a higher consciousness plane . if we harbour hate in our lives, then we may have to face it again , until we finally come to the understanding . so please see bad things that happen in your life as, stepping stones not stumbling blocks, ..........peace and love to all.

You can't forget the past. Nature provides us with a memory for a reason. What you CAN do is recognize what you need to do, or NOT do in the present to feel the best about yourself that you can. And remember having a wonderful past is not an entitlement, it's a blessing. Some people like me and many others, simply lost the lottery for how their past was set up for them.

When you said :” the past only exists cause I keep bringing it up” it’s true. The past and pain doesn’t have to exist anymore if I don’t let it. It’ll be there but I don’t have to fixate on it. I choose to let it go. I can’t do anything about it. And can’t even worry about the future. This helped my anxiety more than anything else. ❤️

There's someone in the past that I would like to forget (it's been like 4 months that I constantly keep thinking about that person)so everyday in the shower or in the car while driving to school, I say to myself repeatedly "I will forget the past" or sometimes "I live in the present". Its been about 6 days that Ive been doing this and I noticed that some of the memories started to fade away. Seriously, I really thought it was some BS technique at first but i'm literally mind blown right now. Thank you for bottom of my heart, you deserve a nobel prize mister.

David Arriaga i think detaching onself from the past (like cancer) is a little extreme, i appreciate him being strong minded and offering an intelligent approach to the matter but effectively what hes asking is to detach yourself completely from the past... Noone can really do that, the only thing you can do is acknowledge it and simply move forwards and do your best not to let it affect you and by being strong. It certainly isnt as easy as his quick fix solution, you cant just forget in an insant, i appreciate hes trying but sometimes can be too enthusiastic. also everyones past is different and so requires a different solution.

The 'human mind', or to be specific for each individual 'the person', will always strive to survive. It's the main reason why 99% of the worlds population will never accept this kind of practice, because this video actually shows that the 'mind' or 'the person' is actually an illusion, this video shows that the Awareness is ones true self, not 'the person'. Best example i can give to show that 'the person' is nothing more than just an illusion is an individual having permanent amnesia, 'the person' is totally erased while the Awareness remains exactly the same, perfect and whole. You actually find yourself living in total freedom (without pain and suffering) when you fully realize that you are the Awareness, and not 'the person'. enjoy! :)

I was cheated on, abused and taken advantage of financially, recently I've started new relationship with someone who is incredible but my past keeps coming up in my head. I've searched online for the answer. I spent too long blaming my past on my current, I couldn't trust, I can't change. It sounds small but that 2 minutes of letting go and telling myself it's just a fake memory that isn't worth keeping really helped. She loves me and wants a break so I can work on myself, I hope I can change. Thanks for the videos.

It's a real memory it did happen and no the memory can still hurt you rather if you ignore it or not and sooner or later it comes up and even if really trying to really let it go then really you shouldnt even say what it is that you went through because that can bring back the memories and make the person more upset you shouldnt really run from your past either or pretend like it never happened at all don't avoid it because if you avoid and pretend that the trauma never happened at all then that is a risk that soon rather if you like it or not that trauma can still be hurting you and you may not no what's causing you're emotional discomfort or even physical comfort when it may be the trauma that you just ran from and it really sucks hurting when you don't know what could have caused it I think this guy was talking nonsense all the time

@@davidtichborne2912 I disagree. I've been through therapy several times. Talking about it did give me some relief to keep going. But it did not give me a fulfilled life trying to work on past events again and again. I'm not a fighter, because my past holds me back! I'm not happy, because my past holds me back.
I have never just let it go. I couldn't, didn't know how. I obsessed about the past. Trying to understand the meaning, trying to learn from it. There is nothing to learn but pain and darkness.
I will try to avoid it from now on. For too long the past has been holding me back, every single day. And guess what - yesterday was thr first beautiful day that I could really enjoy for a long long time. It's gonna be hard to maintain blocking out the past, but I'll try.
It felt good yesterday. I want to be happy.

I'll admit it...this does work for a while because its a coping mechanism. I've done something like this too many times. Its called repression. You repress your bad memories and not think about them or how they make you feel and it seems to work, but for many cases (me included), this isn't a good way. If you continue to just not think about it when it comes up, than you're depriving yourself from the emotions. Those emotions will build up without you realizing and then one day something will trigger it and BOOM the feelings come out. What you need to know is that yes, they are in the past, but all things in the past make you who you are (ESPECIALLY the bad ones). You should work through the bad memories and learn from them instead of ignoring them.

Something I did with my counselor is walking through the situation step by step. Going through it again is pretty painful, but talking about it is the first step. It can really help to look back and see things you missed. The next is to try to learn from it. "What can I do to make sure that doesn't happen?" (if its possible), but don't let your past control you either.

    • @bigburd875

    • @andredarin8966
      @andredarin8966 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

You're confusing"repression" with "supression". One does not know that which is being repressed because it never makes it into awareness. Suppression occurs when a memory occurs and we attempt to force it out of awareness.]
One more thing: how many times do you have to dredge up a memory to learn from it. Let's say you accidentally ran a stop sign, struck a pedestrian, and put them in a wheelchair for life. How many times do you have to look at that moment to learn anything that gives the victim the use of their legs? Constantly revisiting painful memories is often a form of self punishment or trying to undo the past or the consequences of those memories. In either case, it is futile. Nothing changes but the sum total of your suffering.

Sonny Starr yes well said, i understand this guy is very knowledgeable and logical. But like you said even when you do that (like cut them off) the emotions still flood back. I appreciate this guys output and i think hes really trying hard to help and like his strong enthusiasm but trying to ignore your emotions makes it even more so, the more you try to forget the more you remember, its always the opposite and theres always a catch. However i think cutting off memories is a little extreme, the past is the only thing that roots us to the ground.. I wouldnt take his advice too literal and is always hit and miss, for some it works, others not.

Tommy Chappell you need to watch the video again because he’s not once said you need to ignore your feelings. you don’t understand the concept of letting go which he so eloquently described. There is a difference between letting go of the past and not feeling or ignoring your feelings. He is not asking you to ignore your feelings in fact he even said talk about them with your therapist or your coach you just did not listen to the video you just want to make a comment for the fuck of it

before we incarnated in this world, we agreed to meet everything that we have met in our life, we also agreed to deal with them in love and not hate. but the beings that send us here, helps us along , by sending spirit guides to assist us , and also bring some of our situations to an end, and give us the opportunity to start over. we should grab these opportunities to start over , realizing that, everything that happen to us, happened so that we could be a higher consciousness being. and live in a higher consciousness plane . if we harbour hate in our lives, then we may have to face it again , until we finally come to the understanding . so please see bad things that happen in your life as, stepping stones not stumbling blocks, peace and love to all.

Every time I let my mind wander I think of pointless childhood memories both good and bad. Often times when I talk to the people from those memories today in real life they don't remember those things. Essentially I'm holding on to things that meant more to me at the time and to this day and I rationalize that as me caring more than other people and that stops me from letting go. I feel like a historian for a time in life when no one was thinking about the future and were just trying to have as many experiences as possible. It bothers me that's it's all subconscious and the second I start relaxing I'm suddenly thinking about about a day in the 3rd grade when the class made ice cream sundaes and had fun playing board games. I just want to relax but it's like these memories just persist.

I think daily mindfulness meditations will actually help so that even in our idle state, we are living in the present! (At least I hope... because being the “historian of my past” just like you described is so useless!) How has your mindfulness journey been treating you?

I can relate to both of these comments. I think many of us can
It's mentioned by the great sages from all over the world that policing our thoughts is like weeding a garden. It should be mandatory if you're seeking a peaceful and fulfilling life
And when done regularly, it's easy to stay on top of it. Practices like these, mindfulness, presences, are like training the psychological "muscle". The more you train it, the stronger it becomes... strength to keep the mind focused and rooted in the now. Because the present moment is the only place that matters and it's the place where things are usually alright. And in there present moment, if things are not to your liking, this is the only time you may do something about it or change it so it is pleasant.. the present moment

If we were to really decide to forgive and let go of the past, we regain our power and have all our energy back to focus on a building a better present you. what do you do when beautiful memories are mixed with bad memories in the same event. Do you through away eveything away? Some good memories cant be separated out. In addition, denying the past didnt happen robs you of your history and any lessons you can learn from it. Some bad memories cause deep wounds, and although the wound heals, the scar never goes away.

Daryl Wilson i would say yes and no, i think the main moral of the story isnt the message that the past is just a concept, in theory yes it is just a concept, but in reality noone can just forget or detach from their past. Its about being talking to yourself in more encouraging ways, like 'i can only try'.

Before I even start to watch this video Leo, I am 72 years old and work life is busy. I grew up and was in my teens at the time of Woodstock. Now I am spending a lot of time reminiscing about those times and thinking of all my friends who were into Woodstock. Spending a lot of time on TH-cam watching all the Woodstock videos etc. I need to move on but am stuck help! Just love the music and feelings I get...

My problem is not bad memories from the past. My problem is I can't let go of good memories from the past. I am always feeling nostalgic about things and get depressed. My life when I was in school, my friends back in the day, my family , the fun times I had. All those memories should make me happy but instead they haunt me and make me cry.

I find your information very helpful Leo! Thank you for sharing this deep well thought out information! I’ve been saddled with past emotions of a 20 amp year marriage that ended because of my spouse infidelity!
It has caused issues with trust in my new ones that have ended because of it!
I am deciding right now to let go of that past emotionally divorce and accept responsibility for it! I have to get clarity and reckon with it and see it for what it is, a past wonderful event that ended with a negative experience!
It happens to many people, but it is the way that we interpret it and the emotions that we attach to it! So I’m going to label it and catalog it as past and move on! I will not allow myself to label my future mate as untrustworthy or look at her through the suspicious lenses as I have been! Thank you Leo 🙏! I will continue to listen with a empty mind that is open, so I can develop as a sound minded individual!

And also slightly unrealistic, i appreciate his passion and stuff but its easier said than done and noone can detach from their past no matter how god like they are.. So yes being in present does help but the thing will always be there..

You actually find yourself living in total freedom (without pain and suffering) when you fully realize that you are the Awareness, and not 'the person'. enjoy! :)

Late at night, when my partner’s asleep sometimes i get this rush of emotions and immense sadness out of nowhere, ruminating my incredibly sad and cruel childhood and throughout my teenage to early adult years. It comes out of nowhere, i could be scrolling on my phone and then boom a flood of memories and tears. I’m fine in the day time. Ultimately it is the past, it cannot be changed, its there forever. But i have power/ control at least more so then as a child to change my present and future. Praying for all those who also seek healing
