  • In this video I show how to update your Minelab Equinox metal detector with the new 3.0 software update.
    Minelab claims this software update has “improved stability”, and also adds a unique 4kHz frequency to the arsenal. Minelab states that 4kHz is good for finding larger deeper targets.
    In the video, I use 4kHz to test live digs and compare it with other single frequencies as well as multi-frequency.
    I was extremely surprised by how smooth the detector felt-especially in single frequencies in comparison to my experience before the 3.0 update.
    Is the Equinox detector deeper now with the new 3.0 software update? I can’t say for sure yet I just need more time on it... But I got a ton of coins in a hunted out park!

    Hello bro, thanks for the information on the v3 version, but I have found this version to hit bottle tops on a high number 30s and a high clear solid tone very confusing.

      Lance, that’s really interesting. Did you notice any other changes? I found that it smoothed things out a bit, but that is not always a good thing. For instance, some foil signals used to be more choppy, but now come in cleaner, so it is more difficult to determine some trash. Happy hunting and thanks for watching!

    I updated last week and found the stabilization in 4kHz is incredible compared to 5kHz, more so with the 11" coil than the 15". I also found the Target ID was MUCH higher in 4kHz in single frequency. I had to switch to Multi-Frequency to get an accurate Target ID. Even a foil gum wrapper came up as a solid 20/21 in 4kHz but was a 3 when switched to Multi. Of course everything was ground balanced and noise-cancelled. I tested this for 5 hours and it seems like a different detector. I hope Minelab can either add 4kHz to Multi or replace 5kHz with 4.
    I notice you hunt predominantly with the 15" coil. I am about 50-50 between the 15” and 11", depending on trash. I also think the 8" coil goes deeper in 4kHz, really need to run some field tests.

    • @Nwdetectors
      @Nwdetectors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roger, well said! I had a very similar experience to you, so this is good to have others feedback so I know I’m not crazy. I also noticed the target ID issue but I switch and cross-check between multi and single frequencies for most targets so that wasn’t too annoying.. but I agree they should make a version of multi that revolves around 4kHz (park 3 maybe?). Thanks for watching and thank you for the excellent feedback!

      Only coils for the equinox are the 15", 11" and 6" there is no 8".

    • @Nwdetectors
      @Nwdetectors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      JGAC300 Thank you for clarifying, i think Roger May have just made a typo. Yes, the only coils for the Equinox are 6, 11, and 15” inch, I am actually using the 15” inch coil in this video and it is my go-to coil. I haven’t hunted with the 11” inch for a long time and I don’t use the 6” inch, primarily because Thomas Dankowski declared it obsolete, and in my experience it just doesn’t go deep enough in my soil to get anything worthwhile. That said, I’m sure the 6” inch works for other detectorists just fine, it just doesn’t work for me in my hunting conditions unfortunately...

    • @Follower_of_The_Word
      @Follower_of_The_Word 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nwdetectors Yes, i did use the incorrect coil sizes, thanks for pointing this out! I corrected that in my post so it does not cause more confusion. My main use for the 6” is hunting gold in the field and in high-traffic area infested with trash where gold rings are found at shallow depth.

    • @Nwdetectors
      @Nwdetectors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roger S Exactly, perfect uses for that coil! If I were out in the field looking for nuggets in tight spots that the 11” inch can’t reach I would totally be using the 6” inch. I would also use it if I planned to just hunt for gold rings in ridiculously trashy parks😊. Mostly I’m a relic/deep coin hunter. But every now and then I will subject myself to the torture of hunting trashy parks for gold, and I dig like a trained monkey until the ol’ body gives out😅 Just out of curiosity, where are you from and what’s your soil like there? Thanks again for all the great comments and feedback🙏🏼

    I have question brother . When im putting the mode with multi frequency 4khz it will be with other old frequency as we know or it will work only with it self . Regards

    • @Nwdetectors
      @Nwdetectors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Toyota Subaru, so if I understand your question your’e asking if what “mode” you’re in changes once you switch over to 4kHz. The answer is that each “mode”: park 1, park 2, field 1, field 2, beach 1 etc. all have their own unique signature frequency that they revolve around. We don’t know what these unique signature frequencies are- because Minelab kept those proprietary information. What we do know is that if you’re in Park 1 4kHz, the machine will behave differently than if you go over to Park 2 4kHz, and the same goes for field and beach etc. So whatever “mode” your in, will determine how a single or multi frequency will behave in your ground. This is why my go-to mode is park 2, and my go-to frequencies are 15kHz and Multi frequency, and I toggle between those two the most for my own reasons. I hope that helps and happy hunting!

      @@MrTruth-kh9nr Usually i hunt in park2 now and then park1but generally park2 is my go to.I ground balance both Multi and then in 4khz and switch back and forth checking targets and ids and by the tone it gives.4khz may be deeper on a coin size target but haven't heard a tone in 4khz that i couldn't hear in Multi..i generally always hunt in 50 tones its just what i prefer instead of 5 tones.

    Hey great video and nice finds! It's not clear from the video, do you mind sharing your settings for this hunt? Specifically I am interested in what recovery speed you use. I normally use recovery speed 4, but I can't help but think I am missing out on deeper targets. Appreciate your input!

    • @Nwdetectors
      @Nwdetectors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Frenchy88, of course, and thanks for watching!
      I hunt in Park 2, 15kHz, and cross check in multi frequency. Zero Iron bias (FE and F2), sensitivity 22, iron volume on.
      I turn my machine into a 4-tone machine by going to tones, holding the gear button to access master tones, and changing the two low conductor tones to “12”, I keep iron tone at 1, and I keep copper and silver tones at factory setting. I also go into master volume controls and I turn my iron volume down so it doesn’t blow my ears out.
      Thanks again and happy hunting!

    In the video you said this update made the detector more stable but to me it seems like the signals are all jumping all over the place. Even for a simple penny with nothing else in the hole. I have not yet tried out the update but I am worried it will make my signals jump up and down. Has your detector always jumped signals that much

    • @Nwdetectors
      @Nwdetectors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ethan, sorry for the delay in replying! I would try the update, you can always go back to an older version if you find you don’t prefer it- which some don’t. The jumping of the signals is the fast processor adjusting to the various trash and mineralization that surrounds the target. This can get worse when you use a larger coil like I do (15” inch coil) because there is more mineralization and trash under your coil for the processor to deal with.
      Now, some might say that the ctx 3030 is better at getting stable target id- and I’d agree, but I also dig a lot more iron with the CTX, mostly because back then I wasn’t as proficient and didn’t do my homework. But I also think some detectors that appear to have smoother signals and target id’s are sort of ‘averaging’ what they see in the ground, so they may be more stable, but they will get it wrong more often. I see this when I use Iron Bias, which is why I avoid it now.

      Wheat State Detectors, I’ve tried that in the past, and unfortunately copper coins in Oregon soil don’t fare well... the second I put them in acid they just fall to pieces. How do you feel after new update . What's the different please be honest and telling us ..

    • @Nwdetectors
      @Nwdetectors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Toyota Subaru, thanks for watching! So I explain a lot of my first impressions in the video. To be honest I haven’t had enough time, this was a 6-7 hour hunt, and I definitely noticed more stability on targets. Meaning that the detector target ID didn’t bounce as much, and the targets sounded smoother. However, this isn’t exactly a good thing, because I hunt in single frequency (15kHz) and cross-check my targets in multi-frequency. I do this because in my experience multi frequency tends to be noisier and false more in mid-tones and reports more micro-trash like tiny aluminum as good. Single frequency being quieter, tends to report less aluminum as sounding ‘good’. But now, with this update, I dug more aluminum because single frequency sounded so much smoother... Again, this could have just been a fluke, I need more time with it. Another factor here is that I detected a section of park I have ‘pounded’- literally gridded this same section so many times with so many detectors it would make your head spin. And as you see in the video, somehow, miraculously, I’m pulling new coins up... one explanation is that I had cleaned up much of the surface trash in previous hunts and I was really going slow and picking up the faintest deepest signals. The other explanation is that Minelabs update actually made the machine a little more stable-and thus deeper. I can tell you that towards the end of the hunt I cut from recovery speed 2 to recovery speed 1 and went stupidly slow and I got targets in one patch that were so faint and deep it blew my mind. Thanks again for commenting and I would love to know your thoughts as well🙏🏼😊. I’m not quite ready to give 3.0 all the credit but I do think it played an important role in getting these finds!

    • @Follower_of_The_Word
      @Follower_of_The_Word 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will tell you it is definitely a different experience. I rarely search in single frequency, but I used the 4kHz for several hours and am 100% convinced this is worth the update. It is a VERY stable detector, with both the 8" or 11" coil, i have not tried the 6" yet but its already a stable coil. I think the 4kHz gives a cleaner signal and penetrates deeper. I say this because I found several deep targets in 4kHz, then switched over to Multi and it was definitely a weaker signal, some of them I could have easily missed if i was not going real slow.
      The one drawback i found is the Target ID is skewed quite high in 4kHz. The numbers are stable, but much higher, so I turn on my custom profile and check with Multi to get an accurate Target ID.

    • @Follower_of_The_Word
      @Follower_of_The_Word 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Toyota Subaru I ran some air tests today with the 15” coil to compare Multi-frequency to 4kHz and was surprised to find no significant increase in depth with 4kHz, but the audio signal is cleaner. I ran both high and low conductors, 3 sizes each of silver coins and gold nuggets. As expected, the 4kHz is not as sensitive to low-conductors (gold) so detection depth was significantly less than Multi-frequency. I’m not going to publish my results, anyone can run air tests and the absolute results are not directly comparable to field conditions. I also ran Gold 1 and while it gives amazing results in air tests, the high frequencies do not translate to field readings. The purpose of this test was to assess the new 4kHz and I did that to my satisfaction.
