The Keys For Victory: The Best Keybinds for Star Citizen

- In this video I will be showing you the best settings and configuration for setting up Star Citizen for version 3.22, starting from a completely clean install. I call them the keys for victory, and I think they'll be a big help.
I've done these videos for older Star Citizen builds, and always received comments asking for explanations for some of the settings, so I've included them in the video as best I can.
Note: These settings make the biggest difference for keyboard/mouse players.
Whether you're new to Star Citizen or returning for the latest patch, I'll show you the settings I use to gain an edge in PVP and PVE content, as well as providing explanations for what these settings do. I will explain some of the more confusing settings in detail, and even if you don't know anything about setting up Star Citizen for ease of use, if you just follow this video, you'll be ready to go in no time!

Hi - I made the changes but after playing around, I really don't like the center dot being moved to the top as shown at 1:48 and not able to reset back to dead center as you have shown at 6:42 - can you please help me with that setting? I ship spins around and doesn't stay centered as default settings provide. I love the rest of the settings btw.

Thanks for the trouble shoot option but my buddy and I have 2 different ships (I have a nomad) and it happened to both of us. We deleted our USER folder and that reset our settings. We don't know that name of that ridicule change you made so we will only use those other settings options we liked until we can figure it out. ty @@BuzzCutPsycho
Some nice tips there. Here's another. When sitting in the pilot seat, hold F and press both mouse buttons to enter ship inner thought and you can set various commands without searching the keyboard. ATC, Open all doors, unlock ports etc.

I'm glad you still felt that way. A couple things I was concerned about were the intro where I stress that you should use this as an inspiration for what works for you individually was a bit too much. Same with the outro. But I really felt the need to stress that this should also be used as an educational piece not just a definitive do as I say guide.

ESP settings alone are a godsend. Finally someone who explains what the settings can produce.
I shoot for short videos but this one ended up being a bit longer because I took time to explain some things.
Just what I needed, I was just recommend some 20 min vid about this same subject I cant believe how counter intuitive this game can be and how anyone takes 20 mins.... 8 mins dude your a god for doing this with your schedule.

Transitioning over to KM as JS seem to hurt my hands lately, and in FPS have always found KM to be supreme. Wonderfully descriptive and helpful content, delivered flawlessly, clear and concise. Kudos

Yes. Especially since english is not my main language sometimes the terminology gets a bit confusing so I really appreciate a visual representation of what each command does. Also the power triangle settings are an absolute must!!
good stuff; especially moving the power triangle bit. I ended up moving turret entries to f5,f6,f7. I use the default T for targeting mostly and make double tap T to untarget
Not bad. I like the 1 2 3 layout myself due to finger positioning.
4:23 Instead of separately binding open all doors and close all doors;just bind Open/close doors (Toggle) which is right above open all doors. To 1 key. This allows you to use 1 to both open and close all doors. That way you can bind something else next to that that's related like toggle ports lock.
Totally a valid option. I personally prefer the granular control. And if somebody opens a door and I want to close just that one I press close all doors and it just closes it instead of opening and closing via the cycle command.
As someone who's only been playing for a month, I found this to be one of the most helpful videos I've watched.

Just one problem if you are a vulture salvager... The Pilot VJoy Range yaw and Pitch (for whatever reason) affected the "cone" that you can use with the gimbles of the salvage heads. So if you set them down to 4 and go into salvage mode then Gimbal, you won't be able to move the salvage heads nearly as far. I put them back up to 15 so that I could move the salvage heads around in gimbal mode.... One would think it would be the turret range but, nope, pilot.,

Love your videos, thanks for the hard work. I especially like the in-game explanation of what some of the more obscure settings do. I have only one suggestion that I feel may work better for some that want to have at least one pip to one or both other systems after setting max. Set your power triangle keys to the 'Increase (Tap) / Max (Hold)' option.

Glad it was helpful! I was worried it was too long but I wanted to add the descriptions to better help people. I think the demonstration helped.
Targeting - Padlock makes the camera follow the attacker and imitates head tracking. Very useful for close fighting, especially for the jousting in MM. In usual SC fashion it's kinda broken right now however, seems to break with some settings enabled.
Good tip. I hardly ever get it to work. You do have to have the other head movements enabled I believe.

Try setting Prone to double tap Left Contrl if you use that for crouch. For me it beats having it there rather than V

But since I am writing this now the 2nd time in one week to an SC professional, it might be worth making a video (by you ^^ ? I dont make vids) about a tip I've learned 2-3 years ago...
Anyway, I will just copy+paste what I told Moist Noodle in his latest video about dogfighting and you might rethink your whole V-Joy changes. Or otherweise maybe explain why u still think ur change is still better than that:
"Just one suggestion for mouse users I have learned (even though I use VKBs myself):
Instead of changing the VJoy range/pitch settings, set a key (on a mouse button if possible) for
Flight - Movement -> Cycle mouse mode (VJoy / Relative)
this switches your mouse movement between (fast) turning (VJoy) and precision aiming mode (Relative).
It's pretty much the same as using a turret and pressing Q to switch between VJoy & FPS mode"

@@BuzzCutPsycho oh did I miss it, but why do you still change the V joy settings then? I don't use mkb except in turrets, which have the same feature. Don't you lose turning speed with your method?

I always used the lead pip what dose the lag pip actually do or help with didn't even knew it existed, awesome video format short and straightforward no bullshit.
I like to use lag for larger ships and more precise shots.
Great tutorial, and awesome suggestions. One question, is there a way to set multiple keybinds to walking forward and back? I like to use the mouse #4 and 5 buttons while in cities, or traversing long distances. But would also like to use W and S for combat. etc.. Can it be done?

Does resetting the power cycles mess with any other keybinds on foot? ie; weapon cycling and tool choice? I like the idea of having them much closer so i can change them on the fly but if it messes with anything else i dont know as it worth it.
No. They are only active when in a ship with power options.
Great video. I have a concern with the convergence setting set at 100m. If the convergence takes place so close, the divergence from this point being increasing it risks being very difficult to reach vessels (at a longer distance).
It only applies when you don't have a target selected. Since you cannot target infantry you have to blind fire so to speak. Infantry render at about 100m.
Once you target a ship aim assit takes over and it converages normally.

When would you want to use v joy vs when would you want to use relative mode ? Can you just play in relative mode the whole time or would that be bad ?
It would be bad. Too long to setup, too niche. Best to learn vjoy. Also, I have a newer video of this one out.

By the way, what does mouse sensitivity actually do to your mouse? Does it make it more sensitive less sensitive. My mouse has a polling rate of 2000. So should that mean I have it on zero or 100? 🤷♂️
So it differs from mouse to mouse. This is purely subjective. I enjoy the lower DPI and lower ingame sensitivity but that is what I've used for 20+ years.
A youtube channel named rocketjumpninja is good for mice stuff. He would be more knowledgeable than I am.
But to answer you in general you want to use your native DPI on your mouse software and adjust your in game sensitivity to compensate.

The "guns - fallback convergence distance" is tripping me up a bit. Feels like that would be different for the gun type. For example when doing a pve bounty with ballistic cannons too short a value you get a premature green pip until you get in that range. I've been setting it ~20% shy of the weapons documented range. Apparently there are key binds to change this value on the fly but no onscreen indicator to tell what it is.
It only applies to targets you're not locked on to. If you lock on it works as normal.

Using your settings messed up my HUD targeting system. Also targeting itself seems to be badly broken with it. However I have to admit, flying experience is mostly improved. Now I have not idea which part I have to invert to bring back the correct targeting settings...

@@BuzzCutPsycho Hard to describe, easier to show. If you have a discord I could show the problem and current settings. To say it the shortest, I got 2 circles made from dots, but they are not like on your video - centered in one point - but they are one next to another. Also the point with tail cannot be hidden. I found that switching off g-safe removes the point with tail and its circle, but despite if I do that from the ship menu or via options, it pop ups often. This is something I didn't have before. I will do more experiments with settings... But so far this is annoying, I cannot simply revert to default, as I made my own improvements through years and I don't want to loose them. It would be great to have a possibility to export the settings somehow, to a file.

If you have two pips that means two weapons with different velocities. But yeah go in to disc and show me.

any reason why my keys get messed up when I try to set roll to mouse axis? When I do this i lose the ability to look around the cockpit...
Most likely because the role is overriding the look axis. Because things be jank.

Nothing. I unbound those so that they don't mess with my power reset. I've personally never found much a use for that key that regular targeting doesn't address.

I'm a bit confused about the targeting system. Do we just hit right CTRL for everything?
That cycles between LAG and LEAD PiP. I use LAG for big ships and LEAD for small ones so I like to have a bind to swap.
followed these but have an issue with mining now. the gimbles on my scraper heads are locked up and i can't figure out how to fix it lol
Try pressing capslock if they're in relative mode?

Can you automatically open doors to your ship from an ROC or ground vehicle?
With open all? Should be able to. This works on the spartan apc.

A lot of the settings were outright removed. I don't know why. Such as gsafe defaults and remote turrets.

so i did this and my flight movement crosshair and the normal crosshair are misaligned what do i do to fix this ?

@@deviousclaymore it is an issue specific to the spirit and the gimbals. Press g to activate gimbal and it will go away. Or upgrade to size 4 and remove the gimbals.

No, I manually put it up. Honestly I am usually at max throttle in the PU FM at all times. That will change with master modes.
Just a question, found a new trading route off Hurston and me and my buddies plan to pirate it as a full load of RMC at Area 18 is 9 million, I'm going to run the Cutlass blue should I run repeaters, cannons, a mix of distortions and lasers, what's your advice?
Distortions and repeaters. Less because you want to shut them down but more because distortions are broken right now and allow you to ignore an opponents HP pool once shields are gone.

show hints, control hints, flight g safe default on, flight proximity assis defaults on, pilot esp zone size and dampening curvature

Hints: not sure/tested, but there are several text hints not everyone cares about
Control hints: the new "keys to press" hints on the right side of your screen
G-Safe: Tries to prevent you from taking too much G-forces and blacking out by limiting your thrusters. Turn it off if you can handle that urself and therefor have full power over ur thrusters output
Prox Assist: I think, its also limiting thrusters when getting too close to any object in ur way ?!
ESP: Enhanced Stick Precision, is AFAIK just to help joystick users with their aiming, so no idea what this does for mouse users but I might be wrong. Guess Buzz can answer that much better
I have the same issue with guides telling people to change settings without explaining and showing why and what they affect. SC settings are complex and absolutely not self-explanatory in many cases. It's like a dinner shopping list wihtout the recipe, in this case half of it is shown, which means supper and dessert are missing if you cant figure out what to do with the ingrediants still on the table :D @@sl9dge
