A couple of years ago, my older sister gave me a used PSP 3000 for Christmas and I enjoyed it and modded it. But then I realized the paint was scratching off on the back and the front so I bought a new housing unit. When I tried replacing the housing unit with a help of a friend, one of the shoulder buttons broke and started making inputs when I didn't press it. I was able to replace one of them from a pack of two I bought but one of the new parts was faulty. Luckily, my friend gave me the other part from his PSP and we were able to make it work normally and now it's one of my most used handhelds ever all with a shiny Red exterior. Funny enough the box the housing was in said it was produced in Japan and not China.
Funny enough I bought a brand new red New Nintendo 3DS a couple of years ago and I ended up playing with my red PSP 3000 way more as if I abandoned the 3DS before I got into it. I guess it's because of the soft modding and exterior change that made me enjoy the system a lot more, with its emulation, PS1, PSP, music, and video playback capabilities. Speaking of music, I was playing Gran Turismo on the PSP and I unlocked the custom music so I ended up putting a bunch of Eurobeat music from Initial D in my PSP so I can hear Eurobeat as I play Gran Turismo.
I'm just noticed my old psp In my cupboard one day and decided to give it a go... sadly it is doesn't turn on now... it's been with me since I'm 12...and I'm determined to fixed it by myself. Any help ya can offer as I'm in the dark about this...I noticed the battery swollen so I've changed it but maybe it's because of power plug port or on/off switch? I'm not sure how to determine the cause...can ya help?
@@PCmaniak yeah... just bought it from an online store.problem is.. I'm not sure as what is the broken stuff that I had...is it the charger ? Or the battery? Or the power button? I'm currently trying to get my hand on a functional PSP and a new charger to check whether my old stuff is broken somehow... hopefully it's goes well
Nice repair video. Can I ask when you powered up without the screen what was your finger blocking. A light sensor? Also was your multimeter in contiunity mode. Where were the probes. Many thanks
Hi:) in what time ? I don't remember the video much anymore .. but the PSP does not have an optical sensor .. so it will certainly be a mechanical switch
Nice job, I'm trying to fix my own one, the circle button gets a weird feeling when you push it (but it is still functional). Do you think it is the same issue as the one in this video?
thank you for your feedback =) maybe it would be enough to clean the rubber spacer(rubber betwen button and flex-contact layer) .. if the buttons work so the problem probably won't be in the flex layer ... if you haven't cleaned it up yet ... rubber can be sticky after those years of using it.. and that's why we have a strange feeling
@@PCmaniak My X button is also not as clicky as the other buttons. I have a first generation PSP and played with it many years and I'm still playing it today, so I guess I have to buy this flex ribbon and replace it? Will it be again as "clicky" as the other buttons, after I reinstall the flex ribbon?
@Corpus Callosum Hi =) according to your description I understand that X button works .. but does not have the same feeling .. thick model does not have a flex cable .. uses silicone membrane .. if you write me what model it is ..i send you a link to buy the correct membrane
Very good Video! Only one question... My select button is broken, it keeps Spamming so i cant write anything.. any try to fix it didnt work, because i cant flash it because it keeps spammng the VHS menu and so freezes... Anyone the same problem, or maybe the solution for it?
Hi thanks ! =) the description looks like a damaged flex with the select button .. replace will help .. unfortunately fix the flex strip is almost unrealistic
@@PCmaniak Thanks for the very quick answer! Can i somehow "disable" the button function? I dont really need it so if i could just somehow make it not working it would help too ;)
@@furkan2161 only disconnect .. but you will also lose the control of the backlight, sound control and the start button .. replace it and you have no problem ;)
@@hilaryjohnston9111 I have the same problem with my old PSP. The x button isn't as clicky as the other buttons. How does the reinstall work? Do I have to buy a new ribbon and detach the old buttons from the old ribbon or is the ribbon and buttons one piece? I didn't open my psp yet.
EDIT ! :D ach i see only 22usd not 22k :D lol this is not ok price at all (original : if it's for a functional piece with a guarantee .. then it's "ok" .. but junk from a Japanese seller is better I think)

@@PCmaniak The Yellow PSP 3000, I think why the UMD Drive wasn't working right, Because You were on the Video Section, Not the Game Section
@@CarlosAsRayMax unfortunately this is not true .. PSP will initialize umd wherever you are in the menu
those umd drives always went bad. 😂
exactly .. fortunately nowadays it is no longer needed :D and it is better to replace it with an additional battery
