Total respect that you want to keep baby off the internet but it would be lovely if you could let us know when they’re safely here and you’re both ok. Been reading rooting for you x

I read Foster and loved it; Claire Keegan is such an amazing author! One of my favorite short books is The Secret of Roan Inish by Rosalie Fry. It's an Irish book, Irish author, and set in Ireland, and is just so lovely, plus there are selkies! 💚

I loved Foster and liked Small Things Like These, mainly for the writing. I loved the description in the first story of Walk the Blue Fields where seaweed is described as a 'slimy thrill' to the touch. Paradise Rot sounds brilliant.

The last line of Foster BROKE ME! So gorgeous and the movie is beautiful (it's actually in Irish with English subtitles which makes the story even more lovely if that's possible).

When you were talking about Foster, I realized that that this must be the book the movie Quiet Girl, that I saw last week in a small, obscure Dutch movie theatre, must be based on. Had no idea it was based on a novel. It's worth watching, very moving. Thanks for all the wonderful reading vlogs, Jen, and the best to you and your family.

This is what I need to do, read some of these shorter books. I'm not finishing anything at the moment, it all feels a bit dull, however its probably my attention span right now. Really interested in the first pamphlets you mentioned as I love translated fiction. Great video, thanks Jen x

I was a child of the 70's so remember the works of John Wyndham. Choky actually got made in to a BBC program. I hadn't thought of this author but now I want to read them for myself as an adult. So thank you for sharing it.

I haven't read any of these books (yet) apart from Small Things Like These, which I listened to on Libby. It was my introduction to Claire Keegan and I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to reading more by her and just bought So Late In The Day.
Definitely interested in Pet, too! (heard the author's a fellow Kiwi, so yay 😊🙌)

I loved Foster and also preferred it to small things.
Another short and wonderful book I've just read this month is Galatea by Madeline Miller, a mythological retelling, giving voice to a traditionally voiceless female character.
I will definitely check out John Wyndham at some point.

I know what you mean about small things like these. I liked it, very impressed with trh writing but I just liked it...the first time as I listened via audio. So when I saw a copy in the charity shop I thought I'd give it a go reading it with my eyes. Liked it much more that second time, appreciated it more ... But still didn't love it, not a strong connection, but, foster, which I read after, Foster, broke my heart, in a good way and I only did it on audio, looking forward to trying it physically.

There’s now a film of Small Things Like These starring Cillian Murphy. There’s also a film adaptation of Foster called The Quiet Girl. Interested to know if you will read So Late In the Day.
