Sometimes I do that, yes! I usually read somewhere between 1.45-1.65x speed. I have gotten my brain accustomed to listening to something that sped up, so now I can’t stand anything slower😂
Wow 200 pages and more of such a heavy story 😮😮 im glad you liked it overal. I definitely skipped a few paragraphs here and there too. Overal the story is so good and terrifying and hilling.
The most surprising thing about this video for me was I read a King book before you. I read IT during quarantine. Not sure I could have managed if not for the library being shut down, actually, but I did it and was proud of myself for it.
I have tried to read this book twice before and the furthest I have gotten was around the 600 page mark. I think I will put this on my January 2024 TBR for the month. Think I will do it like you did and read 100 to 200 pages a day to finally read this beast of a book.
I'm not gonna lie, I thought "those" parts would put you off the book for the most part. Even the most diehard King fans I watch on booktube even disown those parts (Mr. Mike, looking at you.), but the story is so strong, the characters so well written it couldn't ruin it. That's power, that's a timeless story that will stay with you forever. Welcome to an exclusive club, Mr. Ian. Today 'IT', tomorrow 'The Stand'. :D
I love that book! That one and Bag of Bones are my comfort reads. The couple of parts you’re talking about, is exactly what it is. King is doing it on purpose. It’s the shock value! He wants you to be thrown off…thinking what the heck?! They do come out of nowhere, but that is the point. I thoroughly enjoyed this video! Great job!!!❤❤
You totally should read The stand, Carrie and Pet Cemetary aswell. They are all really good in my opinion. And If you like Stephen King you most certaintly would love Robert McCammon. Boy's life by McCammon is similar to IT, but without those scenes you hated :P McCammon is just as good as King with his character works, and at writing children!! Swan song by McCammon is similar to The stand. The post apocalypic aspect atleast. Plus McCammon is very good at his endings! Btw. I've noticed that you've finished reading ACOTAR. You should def continue with The crescent city. There's a few surprices left in there for you :)
McCammon has been on the radar for sometime! I didn’t know “Boy’s Life” ran in the same vein as “IT.” That’s exciting. I am wanting to get into King’s other classics like the ones you mentioned. Hopefully later in the year! And I will definitely be reading “Crescent City!” I like I might dive in her “Throne of Glass” series first.
Congratulations. I've read no pages of a book for the last few years because I'm an audiobook kind of guy. I don't know why. Perhaps because I can't read.
Man. I need to read this now, such a good review! I mainly read fantasy but I'm a huge fan of horror and thrillers. King horror books are on another level! I've told ya once, u gotta read the outsider, really good. Released a show on hbo a year or two ago. Well worth it to read and watch
@iangubeli You 'can' read the outsider standalone, but I would recommend (especially if you like King's writing) reading the Bill Hodges trilogy first. It introduces one of the main characters in The Outsider, and one of my favorite literary characters of all time. She is also the main character of King's upcoming novel
Hi Ian, for a video idea you could do trying out books in a certain genre. I suggest this cause to be honest, since you've picked up Larry Mcmurtry Dead Man's Walk. I would love to see you read some westerns and see if you like them, if you're interested of course. If you are, for starters I'd recommend Zane Greys Riders Of The Purple Sage, Louis L'amours Hondo, True Grit by Charles Portis, Jack Schaefers Shane and pretty much any Western by Max Brand or even any by L'amour. Obviously this would require some book shopping so that's up to you of course if you are interested and willing to spend the money to give it a try. Im Always trying to get people to read the western genre haha. Happy reading.
Soon I would love to do a video entirely dedicated to westerns!! I’ve not read ANY as of yet, so I need to get cracking on that. Thank you for the recommendations!! Definitely gives me a good pool to choose from!!
@@iangubeli would love to see that video and get another person reading the Ol' West. Happy to make recommendations and help further or talk bout my favourite genre any time.
Awesome vlog ‼️💯 congratulations on finishing the challenge ‼️💯 I am listening to the graphic audiobook of A Court of Mist & Fury and I am on the part when they are looking for the mystery book in the summer court which is around the 55% of the book and I had to stop because I was losing my focus. This book is good but it has so much filler parts that I have to re-listen to it. 😊. I would highly recommend The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb.
Thank you so much!!!! “Graphic”😳😳 that sounds intense! Mist & Fury is so good! I am excited to hear what you think! I need to read some Robin Hobb, I have been putting her off for far too long!
Have you seen the movie? I would really be interested in comparisons from the book to the movie. I have seen the IT movie but never read the book. Would like too but it does scare me with the thickness of the book 📖
It is a very thick book, not gonna lie😂 really freaking big! In comparison to the movie, they have maybe 55-65% in common. There are some liberties taken in the movie that take away from what the book was trying to do. The book is 1,000% better than any adaptation ever done for it! There is so much that isn’t touched on in the movies, and probably couldn’t be touched on, because of how hard it would be to capture it properly. The book is SO good!!!!
Haha "Honking" like a clown, but for real that book is super intimidating because of its size so this was such a smart challenge to break it up! I'll have to attempt this for some of my more intimidating larger books (looking at you Priory of the Orange Tree)
Good job, Ian! Great work on that challenge 👏 I enjoyed your journey through this book so much. Also, that part that you read at the end still gives me chills and MAY have made me tear up still to this day. Wholeheartedly agree with your opinion on those two scenes. Glad you enjoyed your first venture into horror ^^ I've been meaning to read The Shining, might make some space for it next month!

I’ve been anticipating this video and we’ve been speaking so much about it, that watching it for the length that it is has made my day, and it’s only 10.55 in the morning here lol. The way you spoke about the book; story, characters, events and gave absolutely NOTHING away (even though we’ve both seen both versions of the films, so know the just of everything), when you said that the book is so much better and the films don’t even represent what happens in it, just blew my mind away. I only read the first part last night, so can’t wait to read more. I have seen the movie. But the way you react to this book makes me want to read it so badly! I'm happy for you that the channel is doing so well. You deserve it. You are a fun, and unique person with a great taste for books. Please keep it up 😊
When I got to THAT part, I felt like it was necessary at that moment to save themselves, because I’m pretty sure there was a passage there that said that people refer to having sex as ‘it’ and even then it has power and people fear to tell the word. So by doing ‘it’, not only are they telling f*** you to IT, but they are also passing the threshold from kids to adults, so IT won’t have a hold on them because they are not kids anymore, they are tainted by what makes adults adults, and as much as it’s unhinged, it’s brilliant.
This is some dumb excuse to justify this disgusting scene. And Stephen king had the gull to say that “the world is different now from when I wrote it” acting like crap like this was appropriate back then? All I’m saying is that I hope that Stephen king isn’t allowed to live near parks and schools. What a creep.

That is such a hard question🙈😂 I started with “The Gunslinger.” That is the first book in his fantasy series “The Dark Tower.” I loved it, but it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. I would also highly suggest “Needful Things.” It is a bit long, but so freaking worth the ride!

Those parts almost did put me off. Without them, the book is an absolute PERFECT masterpiece!! The Stand is very high in my TBR list now!!
Love your passion! Definitely reading this soon!
I’m currently reading Bag of Bones and I couldn’t put it down last night because I am so intrigued. Hoping to finish it today.
@@Ashleys_cozy_corner I read that book in 24 hours when it first came out, so I totally understand 🤣🤣
@@tessib.1043 after Bones I only have 4 Kings left to read. It’s bittersweet. It’s been a journey lol
@@Ashleys_cozy_corner Oh! I know!!
Thank you!!! I have been looking at “Bag of Bones” for.l a little bit! Hope to dive more into his classics soon!
I'm planning on reading it for spooky season I have watched the miniseries version when I was a kid and the two films
You’re going to love it!!
When you said "It happened. It happened." I was thinking 'IT is the title.' 😂😂😂
Well done in completing the challenge, Ian. 👏👏👏👏👏
Hahah😂😂 thank you!!
Hey, Ian what do you attend to listen to when you are reading?
That the point off the book to disturb you that why then two seen wore in it
You totally should read The stand, Carrie and Pet Cemetary aswell.
Most definitely second this. Also, Dan Simmons has a great “kids on bikes” trope book called Summer of Night that gives me these same vibes.
@@Ashleys_cozy_corner It's sitting on my shelf. I just haven't been able to get to It yet :)
@@iangubeli McCammon is highly underrated imo. Well worth your time :)
@@jimronnysrlie8601 excited to try him out! Possibly soon, too. Thank you!
Congratulations. I've read no pages of a book for the last few years because I'm an audiobook kind of guy. I don't know why. Perhaps because I can't read.
HI Ian!! I loved this video!!
Hello!!
Man. I need to read this now, such a good review! I mainly read fantasy but I'm a huge fan of horror and thrillers. King horror books are on another level! I've told ya once, u gotta read the outsider, really good. Released a show on hbo a year or two ago. Well worth it to read and watch
Thank you!!I will definitely be picking up “The Outsider.” It sounds up my alley!!
@@ryanweihing5045 that sounds awesome!! I am all down for that!
Ooo love this idea
Just got my first Stephen king book “Salems Lot” the other day. I hope it’s good but I plan on reading “IT” in October.
YES!! I haven’t gotten to “Salem’s Lot” yet, but I will this year. I cannot recommend “IT” enough!!!
@@iangubeli I just finished “Salems Lot”! You’ll have to read it for sure! Not really scary but it’s definitely good!!
@@jcspectro704 I have found that to be true of most of his horror stuff. It’s not really scary, just more…disturbing? Psychological?
@@Six-Shooter You’re awesome!
10:12 was so cute❤😭🤚🏾❤️
IT has been sitting on my shelf since 2017 🙃 completely unread, one of the those books i swore id pick up and then never felt compelled to read
Honestly, totally worth the read!!
This was a great vlog 😊
Is this a sign to read IT again? It’s my favourite book and it was like a fever dream, so good 🙈
Have you seen the movie?
Thank you!! Yeeeaaahhh, Priori of the Orange Tree..that book looks like a beast. You’ve got this!! Excited to see the video😉
Hey, can you tell me what camera you use for your videos? Love your channel
Hey, thank you so much!! My wife and I use the “Canon EOS M50 Mark II”
Thank you!!! The Shining sounds incredible!!
Ohh lol. This took me seriously a month!! It's a wordy big chunker!!
It is!!😂 Biggest book I have ever read!
Your Awesome I’m going for 100 pages😮 or at least I’m gonna try!
I’m the slowest reader on the planet. 200 pages would take me a loooooooooooong time. 😂
I can’t read 25 pages in a hour I will never think I will be able to read 200 pages a day so instead of me doing it I will watch other people who can do it 😂😂😂
200 pages in a day is hard🙈 I have slowed it down since!
IAN. MR GUBELI. IAN GUBELI. LOL!
WHAT.A.VIDEO!
What a video! You never fail to amaze me.
But, that aside, I have to commend you, because living life, working full-time, working again on TH-cam and having family time and still reading…PHENOMENAL! You’re an absolute inspiration, you really are. I know you’re humble, but accept the praise, compliment and credit!
Have an absolutely amazing day, stay healthy and happy and I’m sure il be speaking with you on the numerous threads we’ve got going on. 🤣
AYYYE!!! I knew you’d appreciate this!! Thank you for your kind words, they truly mean a lot!! I am excited to hear what you think about IT! What a crazy book, and honestly one of the best reading experiences I have had in a while!
I hope you’re doing well! Have a marvelous day!!!
@@iangubeli Anticipation was on high alert LOL!
Seeing and knowing that you had so much fun with it and loved it, makes it worth reading even more; it’s like a ‘Buddy Read,’ without officially Buddy Reading it, if that makes sense.
I will definitely keep you updated on my progress!
Thank you so much for always getting back to my messages, that also means a lot!
The day is dull and it’s been raining non-stop (perfect weather to read ‘IT.’). Gonna head out soon though.

Rainy weather really is the ultimate weather for reading, especially horror books, but, thankfully today is full on sun, in good old London lol.
Hope you have a brilliant day!
@@ILoveJahangeer You’re making a lot of headway! I enjoyed all of the character intros. It was fascinating how King builds all of their stories out. Makes me wish I wrote it😂 well, “most” of it!
Hope the sun shines out there for you!!
I have seen the movie. But the way you react to this book makes me want to read it so badly!
I'm happy for you that the channel is doing so well. You deserve it.
You are a fun, and unique person with a great taste for books.
Please keep it up 😊
Thank you so much!!!! You should totally read it! So worth it!!
I just read this… late last year…??? & watching this makes me want to reread it again! Stephen King is amazing!
If I drop that book on the ground, the earth would be out of orbit from the solar system 😂 congrats with the reading though!
This was a fun challenge.
Why not just show it, your not scared of him? That he wont effect them because he's just a clown to them. Do they really have to go to slam town?
This is some dumb excuse to justify this disgusting scene. And Stephen king had the gull to say that “the world is different now from when I wrote it” acting like crap like this was appropriate back then? All I’m saying is that I hope that Stephen king isn’t allowed to live near parks and schools. What a creep.
Your reactions are priceless 😂
🎉😂congrats that is so awesome and def had to be daunting! IT def isn’t my cup of tea ( don’t do the whole clown thing ever 😅) but enjoyed your vid and had to feel awesome to finish that beast of a book in a week! Great challenge!
Thank you so much!! The book was the biggest thing I have ever held😂😂 so glad you enjoyed it!!
IT is my favorite book of all time and I actually started reading a month or so ago. Took me a month - it genuinely felt like I was apart of the world and living in Derry. (And yeah, I wasn’t a fan of the two scenes and the slurs used either 🤢.)
Yup you gave it the same rating i did... And that book started at a 5.... then 4.... Then sewer 😫☠️ 3.5
The night will find us by Matthew Lyons was a horror I really enjoyed and I think you might too! 🖤
Thank you for the rec!!
12:02 ohhh man you’re gonna hate “That part”…
I read somewhere that one of Stephen King's biggest fears is bad things happening to children, so that could explain that scene with the kids.
Bro, good for you! I struggle with reading that much. The most I can do in do is 50/60 pages a day. How did you do it!
Honestly, audiobooks save me sometimes! It made this challenge possible!!
@@iangubeli I have also been doing a lot of audiobooks lately. It's how I'm able to get my TBR done faster. Lol

Only way my mind would let me
This is also how I read under the doom and the stand
What do you do to read for a long time and a lot without getting bored??
Currently reading The Witching Hour by Anne Rice. It’s been two weeks and I’m only on 207 out of 996… I commend you 😆
996 pages!?!? Good night🙈 some of these authors and there massive books! You’ve got this!!
holy crap that’s a huge ass book! crap now i wanna read it! hahhaah
It was intimidating, but once I picked it up, I really couldn’t put it down!! Definitely worth the read!!
Do you have a Stephen king suggestion for someone trying to dip their toes into his work and that genre? lol I’m acareddddd 😂
That is such a hard question🙈😂 I started with “The Gunslinger.” That is the first book in his fantasy series “The Dark Tower.” I loved it, but it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. A good place to start with his scarier works are “Pet Semetary,” “Duma Key,” or “Salem’s Lot.” All amazing books. I would also highly suggest “Needful Things.” It is a bit long, but so freaking worth the ride!
@@iangubeli ahhh thank you!!!
This was really fun! 🎉 Can't wait to see what King you will read next. I have read quite a bit of his books. Not reading this one though 😅 too scary for me haha and those scenes I don't want to read at all
Thank you!! I am actually reading his final Dark Tower novel as we speak. After that, I was thinking maybe his some of his classic horror novels, or maybe even the big boy, The Stand!
@@iangubeli Great idea! Depends on how much you want to read by him, because you can also do publication order. I personally didn't and started with The green mile and The shining. The stand was very good as well. My favorite is Salem's lot
