I'm Swedish and I've heard that the reason they changed the name of A Man Called Ove was because we already have a Swedish adaptation with the original name and out of respect to the original crew they didn't want to just make a replacement, but their own take on it instead. So the name change is to distance it a little from the Swedish adaptation.

Regarding the only black top at 26:39 it does actually have a purpose! Sprayed edges aren't just pretty, they seal the pages so they don't absorb as much moisture which leads to them not attracting as much dust. Which is also why only the tops are painted sometimes (since that's the side which is most exposed usually)

The original Harry Potter Book was “Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone”. Scholastic had a meeting with JK regarding the meaning of the word Philosopher in the US. They were afraid that kids would associate the stone with Philosophy and that is going down the wrong route. They also feared releasing “accurate information” that could lead to a mass of children going to extremes. The accuracy was regarding “Nicholas Flamel” he, in real life, was a French scribe who believed in and practiced alchemy. When he died he believed in the “Philosopher’s Stone”. This is extremely interesting that JK included some ACTUAL history in her first book, that being said, The US is a different beast. Parents were already upset that kids were reading books about magic, if there had been REAL information about Alchemy and a stone that they believe(d) actually could be created then parents would lose their minds. So, it became Sorcery and a Sorcerer’s Stone. Think of the negative impact that a Sorcerer could have, then think of the negative impact a Philosopher could have.
It may seem like a small change, but it makes a HUGE difference. Even our favorite books in the series, and films in the movies are different than those outside of The US.

As a bookbinder myself I also put designs on the top edge only when I am making a book.
With the cardboard box/sleeve, how it looks in terms of colors and all I would say it is either made to look handmade and in kinda oldschool way or a bookbinder actually made it themselves :3

if its any consolation (or enabling): terms and conditions is the "second" book in the series, but the three books surround three brothers (one brother per book). it's a different story from the first, and you can honestly read it as a stand alone. there's SOME spoilers for the first book (as in like vague mentions) but tbh, it's nothing that isn't already predictable.

12:14 fun fact: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is the original title of the first book and references the name of an existing legend around the, well, philosopher's stone. This was changed for the American editions to 'sorcerer's stone' along with some other minor cultural details in the book itself, because the American editors thought that 'philosopher's stone' sounded too boring for kids. There are even two versions of the film: in the British one, they say philosopher's stone, and in the American one it's sorcerer's stone!

The Secret Life of Bees is a really good book. If you ever pursue it, you’ll have to go for the US cover. It looks like a watercolor painting of an open jar of honey on a windowsill with a bee flying above it. The jar also has a label depicting the Black Madonna, which is important to the story. Overall, the US cover is much more aesthetically pleasing. 🍯🐝
