This is THE fight scene from 1985's Gymkata, in which Olympic Gymnast Johnathan Cabot (played by actual gymnast Kurt Thomas) find a pommel horse and uses it to dispatch an entire town of eastern European savages. Note the eerie resemblance to the townsfolk in Resident Evil 4.

As a martial artist - keep in mind these people were the “psych patients” locked up into one town called the town of crazies. They have no fighting skills. Secondly, as with all martial films, they have always been filmed this way - Jackie Chan and Jet li have both said that as an actor they get covered up by all the opponents attacking at once and the on screen filming becomes a mess. As for martial art films, they’re purely designed to show case the actor’s talent. Name me one film where they attack at once - it doesn’t exist.
RIP, Kurt Thomas. We’ll always have Gymkata.

For a non martial artist Kurt Thomas did a great job in the fight scenes and was a fantastic gymnast. When I first saw them the fight scenes really made my buttocks quiver like jelly, they were that exciting. Sadly Kurt passed away in 2020.
I knew this movie existed. I remember watching it on TBS as a kid but no one ever talked about it so I thought maybe I was misremembering

This movie used to creep me out as a kid but I still watched it every time it came on back in the day... channel 11...11 o'clock.... scared out of my wits from all those crazies! When I would see it on Saturday noon movie it was the best because it was still light out😊

Just once I want to see a stand off fight scene in a movie where the mob stops and collectively says,"Hey, there's like 50 of us and 1 of him. Let's all rush him at the same time." They can either kill the guy or have him beat ass and win I don't care.

Well this happened in the matrix as well when all the agent smiths piled on top of Neo during the fight scene in the courtyard. Of course Neo just threw them all off of him then flew away but still.

Best part was when the innocent looking priest was waving dude into the church to get away, and then the priest turns around and the back of his outfit was cut out and his ass was hanging out the back. Honorable mention to the old crone lady making that weird noise….I’ve seen Gymkata so many times when I was a kid and it still is a pretty great movie.

I am guessing that the "pommel horse" may have been a public punishment spot where petty criminals were probably tied, or handcuffed to it. Just a guess.
