Saw them perform this live two weeks ago! Hal-Ca is amazing!! I actually teared up during one of her songs! Got some great shots and a video of Dawn

    Great reaction man
I really like these live raw studio versions, I can watch them for days.
You really chose the appropriate t-shirt for this reaction 👌🏻😄

      Haha true, I didn't even realize 😂👍

Nice! I am very looking forward to the reactions of this album. I especially like the studio live songs. The sound quality is very good, you can hear a lot of details, and it sounds very real. You can even hear the sound of the strings when hitting the frets👍🏻

_Dawn_ (from the album _Ignition,_ 2018) is probably their best song, but _Guernica+A_ is my favourite overall album. Pretty progressive and heavy with lots of virtuosic flair. The standout song is maybe _Church,_ which they have also got a live in studio version of. Personally, I really like _Museum of Death_ and _Faced-Burned,_ but those are perhaps more of an acquired taste :-)

Miyu is my favourite Japanese bass player and Haruka might be my favourite Japanese guitar player, I just love this type of technical instrumental music. That said, I understand where you are coming from. I really like these live in the studio recordings (I am a sucker for a less processed sound), but they are still a 3-piece so while I think they are pretty good at filling out the sound there is only so much they can do.
I personally love these live versions, but if you feel like you enjoy the album more I wouldn't mind you going for that instead.

      Thanks for being understanding!
I will just do both versions for the next one ;)

Haruka often plays two guitar lines on the studio versions of their songs. Especially on Animetic. Guernica has a more spare sound.

There is also a second guitar on the album version (for this song at least). Just not possible to play both in a live recording 😉

It's most likely due to some YT compression I'd guess. Having never actually uploaded anything here myself I wouldn't know, but quite a few studio recordings on this platform sound a bit thin, even newer ones. Don't know the cause since in live versions you usually do get a more punchy sound. Then again, maybe bands just don't want the full uncompressed tracks on TH-cam, it's a bit too easy to just rip the sound and have your own album for free that way, maybe?
That out of the way I never felt like their songs lacked coherence due to not having that second guitar. The higher end of the bass fills it out quite nicely, but then again, instrumental music is a bit of an acquired taste for a lot of people. There are songs on this album I wasn't a fan of initially, but after just a few listens i can now say I do enjoy them all very much.

Yeah there most likely is some compression going on, but it felt similar to the Animetic sound, so maybe that's just a mixing or a style choice.
It's really just the rhythm guitar I was missing in this version (which is added in the album version) and I like that one a lot more!
I'll do the album versions first for the rest, I think it'll work better to appreciate the live versions after I heard the songs as they were 'meant to be' 😉👍

the bassist does what would've been the rhythm guitar part on top of doing the main bassline

    • @react-o-mat
      @react-o-mat  ปีที่แล้ว

That's true, but there is an extra rhythm guitar layer in the studio version of the song, which makes it work a lot better for me ;)

All the "Live in Studio" tracks are bangers and a joy to listen to every time. I don't really understand your problems with it. What these 3 "kids" deliver is highest class musicianship.
    Maybe it's because you're only on volume "70"? 😉

Volume 100 would blow my ears out, believe me 70 is already very loud 😅
It's just a matter of taste like with all music and I just personally prefer the album version 👍

I generally prefer the live sound, but the studio versions are on TH-cam (th-cam.com/video/dI2Bg-7U_1Q/w-d-xo.html).
They do sometimes add a second guitar part these days, but there's something special about a trio performing without extras when they are at such a high level. I grew up listening to guitar heroes like Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, so nothing feels missing to me - rather there is a fuller sound because the rhythm section is doing so much more. I can understand where you're coming from though. Relative to the 5+ piece Japanese bands that often add layers even live, it is a stripped back sound, which for me is part of the charm.

Thanks for the link, but it tells me it's only available for members of some YT Music Premium subscription (which I don't have 😅).
But I have the album digital anyway so I'll just use that 😉👍
About the song, I think I can understand that appeal (I also listened to the likes of Steve Vai and Marty Friedman a lot), but to me without something to tie everything together (like the rhythm guitar or some other lines) this feels pretty chaotic and technical to me, but not really very musical, if that makes any sense.
Which is fine of course, but nothing I particularly enjoy very much.
I like the album version (with rhythm guitar) a lot more though!
Guess we'll see how this album will go from here 😉👍

@@react-o-mat Ah I had no idea I was getting that for my subscription (it's worth it just for the lack of ads and the downloaded-music player as I don't use Spotify etc., or Netflix etc. for that matter). Explains the low view-counts. I have the CD too but I'll listen to it on TH-cam from now on because Asterism should hopefully get paid something non-negligible for premium-only views.
