Welcome to Asterism. Every so often you come across something and you just know you are witnessing greatness. And that's exactly what we are seeing here. What makes HAL-CA so special is her merging of old school emoting guitar with new school shredding. Back in the 70s, the guitar gods from Jimmy Page to Clapton to Blackmore, all played an emotional guitar. Then Eddie Van Halen arrives and shredding becomes the thing with the focus being the faster the better, in the process loosing the emotion and humanity of the music. HAL-CA is able to shred with emotion, which is a rare gift that comes from knowing the foundations of what she is doing. Next Asterism song you view should be Church.
If anybody tells you about some promising young guitarist you can tell them that you've already seen the elephant. Hal-Ca was fifteen or sixteen when this was recorded. That is more than just talent.... that is inherent genius.
The 3 of them are still young and very talented. One of my favourite bands from Japan. Guitars: Haruka (Hal-Ca) born November 2002. Bass (and yes, that's a custom 7-string bass): Miyu born March 2002. Drums: Mio born November 2000. Miyu and Mio are brothers. But yes, it is crazy how good they are at such a young age. The fact that they were 16/17/18 years old in this performance is still mindboggling to me.
Asterism are an instrumental power trio from Fukuoka, Japan. They consist of: Haruka Noma, guitars (“HAL-CA”) Miyu Yoshinaka, bass Mio Yoshinaka, drums They were formed in 2014 when Noma was 11 and the brothers were 12 and 14 respectively. They were all playing at a talent fair for young musicians in their hometown, when one of the music scouts noticed them, had a hunch and suggested they play together. Most of their current youtube catalogue is fan-made live video footage, much of it at the Hard Rock Café in Fukuoka. There are also a few clips from their one tour in the U.S., when they played Austin and Los Angeles. From the start, they have written most of their own music, covering a wide range of styles. The brothers bring a lot of jazz and funk ideas into their playing. Miyu plays 4,5 and 7-string basses, which are co-lead instruments in his hands. They are all phenomenal talents, but the big draw has been Noma, known by her first name Haruka or by her stage name Hal-Ca. She has been likened to a reincarnation of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, with bits of Joe Satriani, Nuno Bettencourt and Akira Takasaki, among others, thrown in. Even in the Japanese scene, with its overload of extraordinarily technical instrumentalists, she stands out. She also writes most of the band’s music. Best clips to start with are: “Rising Moon” (their first professional MV): th-cam.com/video/IfxMi0Bx4x0/w-d-xo.html “Blaze” (Live): th-cam.com/video/51Pxkp8lGAs/w-d-xo.html “Light in the Darkness” (Live): th-cam.com/video/QpxNcZoNjVU/w-d-xo.html “Yunagi” (Studio live): th-cam.com/video/8Kjntjpnn7U/w-d-xo.html “Dawn” (Live): th-cam.com/video/buQPvINJcA0/w-d-xo.html “Day 26” (Studio live) th-cam.com/video/6qcxU-rikgs/w-d-xo.html To see Haruka practicing at home, these are fun: “Practice Homework”: th-cam.com/video/_Fm9BBwsihw/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/KPqpt7pxCoQ/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/dPvCGHVc4C0/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/JtP_o2bOjvA/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/JiOeOw_YzMY/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/6AoVTmGZAS0/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/Jd1dwy36poU/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/ptTm2KOWt_w/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/jFDssmQnn3Y/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/oRGzOp-wFt4/w-d-xo.html
There's a nice collection on YT of them playing in a studio setting and it's very nuanced and subtle in a Prog Rock way but still MetalAF. There's a song in that session called 'Church' with an amazing opening by the bassist, using harmonics and plucking and palming on that 7 string bass to great effect. They often remind me of King Crimson on their more Prog pieces. Extremely accomplished musicians who deserve fame and fortune.
Asterism is one of the most underrated bands I know of. They are just brillant. As I said in another comment : the "studio live" version of Church is stunning and I'm certain you'll love it.
Yes, Asterism is that otherworldly crazy good. Guitarist Hal-Ca (Haruka Noma) was just 16 when this was recorded, bassist Miyu not even a full year older. She's 19 now and I dare to say, she's my favorite guitarist around. She not only "plays" her guitar, she "is" the guitar. Please watch "Church", "Light in the darkness" or "Then & now" next time and be blown away. Thanks 🤘🏻
Buckethead was a good thought. He contributed to 'Ignition', their first full length release, along with bassist Bootsy Collins, who produced and engineered the album. That album is full of relatively traditional heavy metal like this song. Their last two releases, 'GUERNICA' (2020) and 'GUERNICA + a' (2021) are more progressive. The follow up is going to be a Japanese anime x metal cover album titled "Animetic", to be released on September 9th, 2022. They each chose favorite anime themes to "Asterism-ize". 'unravel', the Tokyo Ghoul theme song is my favorite from the upcoming album, at least so far.
Please listen to more Asterism. You will not be disappointed. Blaze live (from first album Ignition), Church or Gunfire (from second album(s) Guernica and Guernica+a), any of the videos they have released from their forthcoming album Animetic. Hal-Ca (Haruka) can play anything and her playing preserves and drives the melody. They also play a ton of covers (watch Hal-Ca play Stevie Ray Vaughn) and Hal-Ca's jazz pieces are also fantastic.
The lead guitarist is Hal-Ca is only 15 in this video ! If you like this check out "Rising Moon" MV (AL "The Session Vol. 2) It's more polished performance with better production =)
The 7string bass was specially made by ESP only for him......🤘next songs Rising Moon, Lights In The Darkness, Church, Gunfire, Blaze..., I saw your beard dropped one by one when you watched the bass and her solo's....😜
The members of Asterism met at a music competition in 2014. Hal-Ca was only 11 at the time and I believe the brothers Mio (drums) and Miyu (bass) were 14 and 12. The brothers liked her playing and they became a band that same year. Dawn is from their first album called Ignition (which I am now listening to again as I type this). As has been mentioned, Buckethead and Bootsy Collins are both featured on two songs, Blaze and Warning, from Ignition. Bootsy Collins also produced both songs. You should see a live performance of Blaze (minus Buckethead unfortunately). It also has a small club feel and might even be the same show, not sure. I definitely want to see them live. They have been to the US and I am hoping they return soon. Blaze - th-cam.com/video/51Pxkp8lGAs/w-d-xo.html
I'm glad you took the time to listen to these outstanding musicians. They are good, aren't they? :) At the time of this recording, all three were well under 20 years old. I think guitarist Hal-ca was 16. She didn't start playing guitar until she was 10, after getting one as a present for her birthday. Miyu (Ba) and Mio (Dr) are brothers as far as I know and found their talent only a little earlier. In my view, three absolutely exceptional talents who have found each other here. _____________________ 「 _'Our rock never dies ever. Forever!'_ 」 --- from *BAND-MAID* 'Manners' 🕊

i dont know if you have heard of Lovebites before but there is a debate of many japanese rock, metal fans about who is the greatest guitarist to ever come out of japan the girl from asterism or Miyako from Lovebites they always are 1 and 2 among fans if you havent heard of Lovebites before try these songs Break The Wall, Holy War, Rising, Raise Some Hell, Edge of the World, Glory to the World, Swan Song with Chopin intro, Epilogue, Empty Daydream, Eagles Fly Free, Thunder Vengeance, When Destines Align, and Shadow Maker please let me know what you think

Born in 2002, Haruka got her first guitar at 10, this was filmed 6 years later.🤯🤯🤯🤯

I concur.... Church is jaw dropping. She gives that Custom Yamaha Pacifica a complete beat down.
@A S T - R S M☆ Yes! She is very impressive, as are the bassist and drummer.
@@tonygriffin_ Came here to mention "Church" and once again my favorite Griffin has beaten me to it. Add another vote for that one.
The studio clip version of "Church" is just amazing

ASTERISM ✨️ is a prodigy band. So good, it's not believable and Hal-Ca's animation when she plays is mesmerizing 🤘😁🤘
Phenomenal talent in these young musicians. I love this song and band. my favorite MV is Rising Moon by them.

Haruka Noma is my most fav female guitarist in Japan but maybe in the whole world? depends on the genre like Li-sa-X
The 7string bass was specially made by ESP only for him......🤘next songs Rising Moon, Lights In The Darkness, Church, Gunfire, Blaze..., I saw your beard dropped one by one when you watched the bass and her solo's....😜
