    Quick question... Shouldn't it be like 19-20 drops for the ammonium chloride since it's 1 drop per gallon? You said your tank is about a 20 gallon tank. I just wanted to make sure I understand this whole thing because I'm fairly new and I want to make sure I'm doing the cycle correctly. I LOVE your vids, man. VERY helpful. I definitely subscribed. ;-)

    Hi :) Great video! When doing the fish food method of starting up the ammonia, do I wait until I see an ammonia spike before adding the beneficial bacteria starter, so to feed and not starve the beneficial bacteria?Approximately how much fish food do I need to add daily in order to start up the ammonia? Also, when cycling the tank, do I wait to do a water change until I see a nitrate spike? How much water do I remove from a 10 gallon tank, so not to disturb the new cycle? While cycling my new tank, can I run my filter with carbon floss with filter floss? Thank you so much.

    So Mr.FishExpert Iam going to get my first 10 gallon planted tank in a few days and I just started learning about the Nitrogen cycle and its a bit confusing. I am going to do the fishless nitrogen cycle and I know I have to get a test kit and I am going to get annomia in there by putting old fish food in the tank but how much fish food do I put in? And when do I put my plants in before or after the cycle? How much water do I take out, and do I take it out every week? You probably said some of this stuff already but I get distracted by my phone... sorry :/

    • @Aquahound
      @Aquahound  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alright Bella Pop go ahead and put a pinch of that flake in der. Plants can go in at any time cuz they run off the process of photosynthesis to maintain and for growth. As far as the water changes, I leave mine go till the very end of the cycle, when I see the nitrate levels moving up and the other two damn near close to zero. Hope this helps and if you need anything else just shoot Pops. PEace

    I've been waiting 8 weeks and my tank won't cycle at all. Ammonia level is 4ppm, no nitrite and no nitrate. The ammonia just stays in the tank. Chlorine is also at 0 and I have added API quick start. Supposedly it should have all been cycled in 4 days. Even if that wasn't the case I would expect to see something going on.
    All the research I've done online i've found out that when people have this problem it's always because of a small amount of chlorine still left in the water. But like I said there is no chlorine. I'm at a loss, can anyone let me know what's going on?

    • @JLight72
      @JLight72 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    This hobby is driving me crazy. I just bought expensive fish and now you're telling me about cycling a tank? Is my fish going to die? My tank is fairly new. Some of the little fish already died and I'm already out $20.00. I just did three water changes and that last water change cost me two of my fish. I don't want to do another water change because I'm afraid my silver dollars won't be able to handle it. What am I doing wrong? What is your "dirty little secret" in keeping fish alive?

    • @whitetailkings2896
      @whitetailkings2896 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Better start doing water changes when ammonia and nitrite levels rise. Or yes they will all die. Ive been waiting 2 weeks now on a fresh tank for the cycke to complete. I still havent bought any fish for it

    **QUESTION: I have a 10 gallon tank. I let it all run for a couple of days and then added my fish. The tank was doing well for a couple of weeks. I tested the water today and saw that ammonia is high but nitrate and nitrite are 0. Does this mean the bacteria has not colonized? I did do a 25% water change but the ammonia is still high. I did not add any bacteria when I first started my tank. What should I do now?

    • @Aquahound
      @Aquahound  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First off lets just assume your tank has not yet cycled. Now given your nitrite and nitrate are at 0 let's take into consideration that you may have too many fish for a ten gallon tank, which in return leaves more waste given off hence the high ammonia level. I can't give you an exact time frame because every tank's chemistry is a little different. Just stick with it and don't go putting in the show piece fish until you have reached all the desired levels of damn near close to zero. Best of Luck Jane!

    • @ryu4rules
      @ryu4rules 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nitrogen Cycle has not completed in your tank.... I can't do much now, keep changing 30% of your Tank water daily, your fish may die if Ammonia level rises...

    You keep messing up using the word "Nitrite" when you mean to say "Nitrate" (or Vice Versa) making things ten times more confusing than they already are....examples are at 2:55 and 8:47. You should loop this with the correct term or your just confusing people even more. Good video otherwise!

    • @apaulmcdonough2170
      @apaulmcdonough2170 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only seems that way because of the *Difference in "Parts Per Million" Scales*
      The *Toxicity is comparable for Ammonia and Nitrite* side to side on the *API* Color Chart.
      *Nitrite Bacteria* CANNOT BEGIN without the Presence of *Nitrite.*
      About *7-10 Days* IF "All is Well".
      Then another *7-10 Days* to see *NitrAte.*
      Keep *Ammonia* between *2.0ppm and 3.0ppm.*
