It's worth it, a bit confusing at first, especially how the fuel system works, but once you get it it's easy. Also, anything you don't like can be easily disabled :)
I aggree with you on most things. Regarding long hair, i think it is lore exact to have short hair when you spend so many time putting a space helmet on and off. My main grief is that I think your character is spoiled from the start getting a ship, a home base and companions without any effort.
Yeah, reckon getting a ship should be a plot thing in the main quest. Crew on a ship or expansive city you can explore first. Think they should have focused on 2 big cities and make the rest settlements. Mention these other cities but if too much effort, don't let us go there
Just gonna put this out there, if you don't let the internet cheese gaming collective ruin the game for you. Make this outpost for all the resources at once etc. Then the game stands up fine on it's own merits. Exploration, combat (if you up the difficulty), and not cheesing stuff will extend/make the game so much better.
It made no sense to me why the procedural POI generator kept throwing up those complexes full of Helium3 when hardly anything craftable uses it and outpost supply lines, you mine it on location. Until I read about that whole entire ship fueling mechanic that was completely cut from the game halfway through development, now it makes sense. Also that line from the ship tech on New Atlantis about buying fuel apparently wasn't cut from the script or voice over work was done before they decided to drop the mechanic.
Yeeeeeeeees this is what i want but super expanded like for example imagine being able to start on any planet in the game plus modded ones and you can start off with a company as a bandit or pirate or start off with nothing including no ship so now you have to go and do some missions and get some credits to buy your first 1 passenger small ship and now you can travel to some planets to do more missions get money get food make sure your hydrated and not hungry and keep your ship fuel topped up and so much more can be added to this, I want the medical system to be expanded like you have to use the certain meds for certain effects that arent going to be rare to get now from burns to radiation sickness and much more
This is it. I was starting to fast travel and over encumber myself everywhere. This was in the 'cozy game' zone. Now, I literally have to plan and prepare, before I fly to another planet. Mass Effect is more exciting. This is *the* space exploration game. 🚶🏿
Absolutely agree about survival. After I played Fallout 4 with Survival mode, I can't play the game without it. I mean all these Bethesda games have that DNA, why would Skyrim, Fallout 4, and Starfield have a robust cooking system, but not a hunger element. My complaint is that Bethesda released the game without a survival option. Should have implemented one before releasing it. I understand that many mainstream players dislike survival difficulty, but they could add it as a choice, like a normal and a survival mode. So players can choose their preferred style.
@@XSaberUruz Also, pretty good video. I was also planning to create video essays like these. But never got around to doing it. This topic was also in my mind: How survival improves Bethesda games. Plus I also agree that enemies being bullet sponges is bad. Damage dealt and damage taken should be higher, Enemies should also have different vulnerabilities depending on their type. Anyway, I subbed. Good luck with the future of your channel.
Survival isnt even a proper term for whats great about the "survival mode". Its not like rim world or green hell where starvation is this big looming threat, but more an immersion system that leads you to actually visiting the shops and bars where you can then meet npcs, visit job boards, etc. And the environmental hazards help really make different biomes feel different. Like in skyrim w/o survival, the only different between the snowy northern reasons and the lush southern regions is a color scheme, but with just adding coldness as a factor, having to think about "i should have some firewood ready if im gonna be going to dawnstar" really makes it feel like you are going somewhere else.
You can always impose your own survival mechanics until Bethesda adds them. Only carry 1 of each med item. Only carry 4 or 5 weapons & limit your ammo realistically. Eat occasionally. Sleep occasionally. No waiting, ever. (Unless you're roleplaying a zen master). Fit your ship with only the smallest fuel tank available, forcing yourself to make shorter jumps, thus: more random encounters. Land after each jump to grab at least one unit of He3 from a gas vent. (Ok, admittedly i've never done that one!) Nice to hear a balanced take on the game, keep it up!
Randomizing enemies inside POIs would do a lot for me for replayability. Going to the same places with the same npcs inside gets old quick for me. Don't know if that's easy to mod but it would help a lot.
@@pauloskinner definetly, procedural gen and randomization of enemies and maybe side missions would really help, especially in survival runs when cash is constantly tight. Seems easy enough to mod, just takes a bit of time but skyrim has tons of stuff like this thought mods. The “job” board mod for skyrim is something I really enjoy
Thank you, im glad you liked :) There will be more for sure, people seem to have enjoyed this one. The channel is fairly new and people are subbed for different types of videos, so im trying to give everyone a bit of what they are here for. Feel free to use the “playlist” feature to filter through the different stuff I make ✌️
I would like to see intelligent aliens in starfield only if they're not humanoid. I'd prefer a more speculative biology route or something similar. I'm hoping modders can eventually make this happen. I'm glad there's no humanoid aliens
starvival dropped on xbox yesterday. Still testing it out but am loving it. Currently you cant use the optional addons in tandem with the main module so I choose the fuel plugin and the other systems are being handled by bethesda's gameplay settings as of now. What I like to do is, cheat a reasonable but not infinite amount of money (50k) and head canon its funding by walter stroud. This way I dont need to worry about fuel, grav thingy and food for the early game. This money also goes away pretty quickly when using starvival.
What I like about it is there’s a lot of things you can tweak and make your own fun. I’ve always felt like Bethesda games are a make your own fun kind of games, survival just enhances that.
finally a review made by a normal and intelligent adult ..... i do agree with your points of view ..... and i dont understand why bethesda dont have this clear view or self awareness ............. congrats great video
Originally buying homes wasn't in starfield we complained about it and they added them. And realistically you wouldn't get tired from sleeping on a ship and starfield wouldn't have a food and medical shortages either....
I agree, I have not played until a real survival mode comes
I'm 400 hours deep. Not sure why people hate it so much. Looking forward to trying this mod!
It's worth it, a bit confusing at first, especially how the fuel system works, but once you get it it's easy. Also, anything you don't like can be easily disabled :)
Play FO4 and your see why
Great summary! 👍
Thank you

Agree that they need survival mode.
This was a really great video. Well put together and it was refreshing to hear criticism and not just bashing for the sake of it.
Hey I really appreciate it
Seconded!

For sure, I never understood the amount of hate the game got honestly. The ship building is so damn fun too

100% they should have released it with survival, also not sure why its taking so long to do it even now…its a must for a lot of people

Great summary of how survival mode encourages interaction with other aspects of the game
Thank you ✌️

I downloaded starvival i eneded up turning everything off except the ship infirmary its all i wanted the mod for
The main thing for me is the change to damage. No more spongey enemies and you die faster too.

Same items not being craftable
good
Ragnarok Origin!

Game still sucks even with Survival mode.
Nah, it was at least good if not very good straight out the box.
