I love being able to adjust all the various damage tabs to suit my playstyle, as well as furnishing my ships from scratch and land vehicles are coming soon too. 👍
I quickly tested this update a huge step in the right direction but I will hold off until the ground vehicle update to jump in again as exploration will be much much more enjoyable the big part of why I did not explore is how long it took to walk to places. throw in the few immersion mods I like from Nexus and it will be a fun time for a second playthrough .
Thanks! Excellent breakdown and just what I was looking for. I have loved this game since day one, and these upgrades make it so much better. I have always been a fan of mods that allow you to toggle different features on and off. I hope other games start including these types of settings.
Wow thank you so much for your support and kind words. I think the settings are very much needed but what really excites me is it seems like they are building extra support in the game in preparation for the expansion. Which I expect will bring with it a ton of content.

Very well made video. I appreciate all the hard work that went into getting all this information. Keep up the great work. The future is looking brighter for Starfield.

This is a great video!! Thanks for making it, I'm gonna wait until Shattered Space to jump back in, but it's good to see how much more they've already added.
Putting a bounty board on the ship is a great idea as well, it helps with bugs as well as there are a few that are related to high bounties, have lost 1 character to this recently. I would however still pop an outpost on a level 75 planet and farm the bounties for gear and have a bounty board there as well, as well as a Constellation board, they need spreading over the entire system really and they do only have a limited amount to give then completely stop from my testing. I do find the FC bounties to be the best for gear though but they are luck of the draw and bounty boards to have a limited coded into them for range anyhow so I have learned from someone who is making a mod currently.
Once you get to where you can use mods you should check out Mission Boards Anywhere. It's a tablet that is in your weapon inventory, you can pull up all of the mission boards you have access to as well as a bounty board from anywhere in the game.

Every NG+ adds more damage to you and less damage output to a maximum of 100% against and 50% output at NG+10, so Extreme with these modifiers will just be insane. It is good they allow you to change the damage for Ship combat but again it goes up as you go to NG+10 as well. A guy on Reddit has posted it all in detail, a few months ago but it's basically as they say as you become The Hunter, the less powerful you become even though your Starborn powers go up if you go to all the Temples every time you enter the Unity.
My fav difficulty system is from GhostReacon Breakpoint. You can get realistic where every shot causes you to injure and 5 shots or so would kill you, same for the enemy. You can also get very chill where you're basically a killing machine that can wipe out the entire camp yourself. The good add-on to this is, you can play with others with totally different settings together. The only exception is the raid mode. The current one we just got in Starfield is a welcome addition, but I still don't get why you would get punished or rewarded for wanting to customize your experience.

Nice coverage! It did actually answer many of my questions. I for one will pick options I can actually live with. Switching them back and forth to get benefits while reducing consequences is just not my thing. 😀
I'm immediately setting the damage so me and enemies deal maximum damage to each other. I always get a mod for that in Fallout and Elder Scrolls. It makes combat so much more fast-paced and frantic when you can kill enemies very fast, but if you don't they'll kill you just as quick.
Around the eleven minute mark, you're referring to alien stir fry's stat increase from the setting change, but you unintentionally, I assume, used alien stew in the comparison shot. For future science endeavors you could use tdetect to stop npc aggro, the respective console Ids with placethere to put npcs where you want them, and forceav speedmult 0 to keep them stationary. You could then set variables like their armor, hp, and other resistances as necessary for testing purposes. Keep up the great work and thank you for doing these tests so we don't have to. lol
Thanks! That's actually some useful info. I just had a play around and it seems like I'm reaching similar results. Would have been helpful to test enemy damage though. But it does seem like the setting mostly improves their 'aggression' more than their actual damage.
Assuming you have the ship cargo space needed you could just turn ammo weight on, carry capacity to reduced and cargo access to everywhere and you will have a net xp gain and be able to pick up whatever you want.
Also, need to say: I've wanted this aspect in Fallout 4's survival mode and will be excited to see if this customizable difficulty carries over to ES6 and FO5.
I'd been avoiding leveling the powers part of the game because it made me way too OP. A legendary beowulf and inflictor was all I needed to clear baddies. I think powers will be useful on extreme difficulty. I like these changes. I like that I'll have to research chems and foods as well to give me the buffs i need to survive.
So, what happens if you fully customize an empty hab on a ship, then modify your ship later. I would expect if you delete that hab, you get all the materials back in inventory. But do the decorations remain in place if you simply move the hab or add other habs around it? After painstakingly decorating, I would hate to lose all that work just by adding a window or a new hab beside the custom hab. Right now when we do any hab modifications including just adding a window, all auto-generated junk goes into inventory. Has anyone tested this?
I would have felt sorry for you last week, thinking that it's never going to happen. I am still surprised. They are really laying on the "listening to player feedback" thick lately.
My primary system is currently in for repair, so it'll be a while before I can play again. That said, the only food buff I cared about was Persuasion (Booze and Pheramones) and EXP%, and I had to max out the Food skill tree to get any increase to XP at all. This update has rendered that +2~3% buff nearly pointless, while making Food Healing finally viable. I have mixed feelings. But as long as my Console created Super Cutter (Rapid Fire, Extended Clip, Titanium) still works, and I can still set my destination universe during the credits, I'll be fine. ...and now I wonder how many Mods this broke...
Wondering if I will get to change traits without going through the Unity. I am at NG+ 10 and have now built outposts and ships and don't want to start over again.
If you have an xp crafting farm this is great, when mass producing items just jack the 75% xp boost along with sleep and any other booster you can think of, I was making over 570+ xp per stack
Great video breakdown! The only thing I want and need to adjust is,extreme because I like being able to handle the toughest enemy situations except SHIP COMBAT RENDERS ME BUT HURT 90% of the time! I’m SOO happy that now I can possibly even out the ship combat ratio so I can maintain extreme difficulty without having to keep switching to normal or even easy sometimes! My one and only legendary battleship encounter ended in sheer disaster, as I couldn’t even handle it switching difficulty to very easy made little to no difference! Hopefully this is remedied now. 😳🤦🏻♂️🙄/👌✌️🤲☝️😉
A couple of questions: 1. Building inside the ship: does this work on Starborn Guardian ship? I.e. can you add a bed to your Starborn ship? 2. Previously, the difficulty setting affected drop rate of legendaries. How does that change when you can set the difficulty for different aspects?
Something that would be interesting to know: Are there any food/drink items that give more than the 30 minutes of fed/hydrated status effect? I already read somewhere else that the nutrition skill can increase that, but what about special meals you can craft through the gastronomy skill? Maybe something to try out.
It's probably an oversight that you can fully disable "Combat Affliction Gain" (-3% XP) and "Environmental Damage & Afflictions" (-2% XP), but still choose the hardest setting for "Affliction Treatment" (+6% XP), "Affliction Prognosis" (+5% XP) and "Environmental Damage Restoration" (+4% XP), whichs nets you overall +10% XP without drawbacks. The new setting for "Environmental Damage Restoration" can actually be good for "Bloodied builds" (if you are familar with Fallout 76) as you can now lock your health bar in a state to always benefit from the Wanted trait and Cornered legendary weapon effect. Without this option this was not possible as with the default setting you automatically heal Environmental Damage.
Do people like the fact that changing difficulty changes XP gains? I think I like it because I like the small reward for making things harder, but I can also see that people don't want to be punished for customizing.
I think it's dumb to add a penalty for customizing. It would be nice to hear from the devs the reasoning for that. They could have just left it alone and not impacted the players but I'm betting it's to keep us playing longer so they can say their numbers are higher than they should be.
I have over 3500h under the hood, I just LOVE this game ( best thing since Las Vegas and Mass Effect ...) and now, with this fantastic update, I start a new game from scratch, ( last chain of NG+ I was lvl 249... and I turned ALL to "extreme" - the feeling is like of a different game, you need to plan everything in advance, no rush, carefully investment on skills... in few words, a lot of sweat :p
Great vid! Curious tho if putting all that work in decorating your ship gets completely wiped whenever you upgrade it at all, or choose another main ship.
The drastic increase of carry weight is still small, but it's the step in the right direction and the best thing to come out with this update. And the cargo access!!!! Just like that, Starfield got from 7.5/10 to 9/10. I really despised the limited inventory, since Oblivion. It's the biggest bug in the BGS games. So happy they god rid of it! Also the maps.
Or take all the inventory XP buffs, clear the POI of enemies, then switch the inventory settings to max pickup and instant ship access to loot the undefended base now that you've wrung all the bonus XP out of it
Agree. I enjoyed or at least tolerated the carry limits, cargo access, and vendor credit level at first. But about 50 hours in I’m like “I’ve done this crap to much, I’m spending maybe 25% of my gameplay just storing, selling, going back to my storage area, selling, again and again”. Played to about 200 hours through 2 characters, then gently set Starfield aside. But now I’m back, baby!
For real? I can't wait to completely nerf my carry weight! I find the ability to carry 30 weapons, 6 spacesuits, about a dozen different types of space rock.... Unimmersive, to say the least! & finally, ammo has weight!!! 😂
while i fully support this update i must confess forcing players to chose if they get no xp from things when changing options is not ok, they should just allow players to choose what they want. Also no boundry is this 100% true? That would be massive
If they continue doing updates like these, maybe it will be enjoyable in a few years. I have sunk 82 hours in this and at NG+2. Still haven't found a reason to go back yet. Not even this update unfortunately. Looking forward for better starfield though.
I WILL be turning off environmental afflictions. They are completey BROKEN AND TOTAL B.S.! I have died by sleeping on my ship because the bed was over a gas vent that I did not see. I have gotten burns and frostbite while on my ship as well. I even took lung damage from a sandstorm on a space station! The ability to remove that utter garbage from my game is an extremely welcome addition.
Why are we even getting environmental damage when we are wearing a space suit which by its very nature is its own self contained environment ? Agree that feature is total BS
Regarding the Enemy Damage setting, while the damage per bullet may be the same, it sounds like the damage *per sec* has gone up if they are firing more and hitting more, so I think the Enemy Damage label is still generally accurate.
Hope Starfield gets the love it deserves. I mean, it is not the best, but it has a lot of potential. I have a feeling that in a long term this game will be massive due to mods. Imagine the possibilities with a 1000 planets.
These changes look great, but I'm still wondering one thing: How is loot drop quality affected by the various XP settings? Before it was straight forward: You get good stuff for Very Hard, you get crap for Very Easy. So which of these settings will the loot be going off of, or is it a combination? Maybe tied to your overall XP buffs/debuffs?
Great vid, thanks for the detailed breakdown of the new options. Curious to know if "Cargo Access Distance" impacts resource access at workbenches. For example, if I use the workbenches in the Lodge, can I still use resources from my ship or do I need to have the resources in my inventory?
"without exact health values i have to work with pixels" May i introduce to you: The "Getav Health" command Anyways good video overall, i couldn't get the damage numbers of extreme through the method i expected would work (getgs) because the variables are changed and i couldn't find the new ones, so seeing the damage numbers extreme has was nice. Although i will make a correction on the difficulty section, it is a flat multiplier instead of increasing health values. You can see this yourself by looking at companion damage, which regardless of difficulty will always be the same, as its purely a multiplier to damage dealt to you and damage you deal to other things. The damage number display does not take difficulty into account when showing the damage dealt, something i definitely noticed when i used setgs to increase damage dealt and received by 15x for fun
As an Outpost Farmer, I wish vendor credits were raised higher. I play on Xbox, so there’s no mods for us & to really get into & have fun with shipbuilding, you NEED to be an outpost farmer. It’s better than nothing I suppose. Not too sure if it’s enough to bring me back however. Probably will wait til later this year for Shattered Space DLC & land mobiles
This is great. I'm looking forward to the survival mode stuff. Exploration felt too much like a walk in the park. Alien landscapes should be scary in and of themselves, IMO.
So nice of them to add an actual map... I gotta say, I'm not super impressed with their survival mode options, but with the creation kit coming soonish hopefully that'll change.
Putting on max damage taken and given, and all the hardcore survival settings, but sleeps cures all and vendors have boat loads of credits…. I still come away with 25% bonus xp(40% if you add the rested bonus) and the game is way more immersive while not being tedious. Having limited carry weight but being able to access ship cargo anywhere in an outpost or settlement and also not having to visit every vender 3 times just to sale all my shit is nice. Wish they did this type of customized system for survival in their previous games.
You said you had admirer oblivion sidekick dood, well I was wondering if you could spoil for me what happens to him if/when you Unity? Does he show up again like initially, or do you lose him? 😳🤦🏻♂️🙄/👌✌️🤲☝️🤔

Super informative. Thank you!
Love your Starfield videos bro, keep up the good work 🔥
Thanks, will do!
They missed the chance to give Infirmary habs a game effect by allowing you to heal over time no matter your setting if you sleep in an infirmary.
Also, need to say: I've wanted this aspect in Fallout 4's survival mode and will be excited to see if this customizable difficulty carries over to ES6 and FO5.
Wow man, great video
I'd been avoiding leveling the powers part of the game because it made me way too OP. A legendary beowulf and inflictor was all I needed to clear baddies. I think powers will be useful on extreme difficulty. I like these changes. I like that I'll have to research chems and foods as well to give me the buffs i need to survive.
Thx, short and to the point!
On series X and dont have the update yet nothings showing up when I boot up the game it just plays no update . Anyone know when its coming ?
15th May. I was confused too. The guy started the video with ‘it’s live!’ when really it’s not out yet and it’s just out on Steam Beta
Thank you for this video. It's exactly what I wanted. Looking forward to starting again now I can get rid of bullet sponges.
I’m going to wait for land vehicles
I would have felt sorry for you last week, thinking that it's never going to happen. I am still surprised. They are really laying on the "listening to player feedback" thick lately.
@@JeffreyBolesthere was a video with the devs where they worked on a land vehicle and it should be either in the upcoming big DLC or shortly after
My primary system is currently in for repair, so it'll be a while before I can play again.
Ohhhh this is looks like they finally finished the game.
If you have an xp crafting farm this is great, when mass producing items just jack the 75% xp boost along with sleep and any other booster you can think of, I was making over 570+ xp per stack
Good video, I was able to locate exactly the information that I wanted to know. I like your style.
Glad to hear it! What were you looking for?
@@Dantics It was the vendor credit increase amount, I wasn't able to find that out from anyone but you.
I love the survival aspect it gives good reason for some of the skills
A couple of questions:
I’m definitely going to be adjusting those afflictions, food and healing sliders.
I'm glad to see what should've been in from release
Thanks, that was VERY INFORMATIVE.
Glad it was helpful! Good to see you
I really enjoyed this video im sending a sub❤❤❤
Do people like the fact that changing difficulty changes XP gains? I think I like it because I like the small reward for making things harder, but I can also see that people don't want to be punished for customizing.
I think it's dumb to add a penalty for customizing. It would be nice to hear from the devs the reasoning for that. They could have just left it alone and not impacted the players but I'm betting it's to keep us playing longer so they can say their numbers are higher than they should be.
@@BigChungus378 how does it keep people playing longer? By slowing down level ups? Most players don't stop playing when they hit a certain level.
I felt that way too playing through Mass Effect on legendary
I love the maps. It's the best feature for me.
@@skyriminspace You're a masochist.
while i fully support this update i must confess forcing players to chose if they get no xp from things when changing options is not ok, they should just allow players to choose what they want. Also no boundry is this 100% true? That would be massive
Now I know what to do with my upcoming vacation weeks!
i love every single new addition. Hopefully the cars will come soon
Agree but I would have rather it say 'aggression' or something to really highlight the fact there is more to it than just a damage bump
Hope Starfield gets the love it deserves. I mean, it is not the best, but it has a lot of potential. I have a feeling that in a long term this game will be massive due to mods. Imagine the possibilities with a 1000 planets.
Is this a PC only update or has it not been released for the UK? I don't have the update.
Its in beta opt in for now.
the beta patch is only on steam ... the final patch will be released on may 15th for all platforms
It will be out for consoles this month!
@@crazy-tommy Thanks *sighs* what a let down I was excited for this it looks awesome especially the survival elements.
@@blue-dragon Thanks.
"without exact health values i have to work with pixels"
May i introduce to you:
The "Getav Health" command
Anyways good video overall, i couldn't get the damage numbers of extreme through the method i expected would work (getgs) because the variables are changed and i couldn't find the new ones, so seeing the damage numbers extreme has was nice.
Excellent work, nice detail!
Thanks for watching!
So nice of them to add an actual map... I gotta say, I'm not super impressed with their survival mode options, but with the creation kit coming soonish hopefully that'll change.
You can put bounty clearance terminals in your ship now! That’s it! YES!
Wish they did this type of customized system for survival in their previous games.
... and just like that all my questions answered. o7
Glad to see!
Interesting , Thank You . .Sadly I upgraded last night , now I can't move stuff to my ship? So I started over
When is this update coming out?
15th May
Awesome video thanks 🙏🏽
Thanks for watching!
We're heading in the right direction.
I hope they add more outposts, caves, etc to the random generation. Maybe some derelict ships, stations, etc.
Great vid mate ✌
Glad you enjoyed!
It's a single player game. Changing your difficulty shouldn't impact your xp either way.
You said you had admirer oblivion sidekick dood, well I was wondering if you could spoil for me what happens to him if/when you Unity? Does he show up again like initially, or do you lose him? 😳🤦🏻♂️🙄/👌✌️🤲☝️🤔
