    The Akeley's Fighting African Elephants are some of the best examples of taxidermy ever created-- but they'll need help if they're to survive the next 100 years.

    I visited the Field Museum recently and let me tell you those elephants are larger and look even more impressive in person than they do in this video, if anyone gets the chance to take a trip to the Field Museum I highly recommend you do so without hesitation.

    Emily, I so hope you continue to do the Brain Scoop. I am 66 and learn from you with every video. I appreciate your questions that approach your subjects from a basic level and draw the experts out into scientific explanations. This satisfies my ignorance and curiosity. You are a pro and clearly doing a huge service for the Field Museum and your 500,000 subscribers. Nice work Ms. Grasley, thanks.

    I remember walking into the Field for the first time, and seeing Akeley's elephants, and instantly feeling...I guess I could say "at home" standing beneath them. Looking up, I had my first experience of, "This is it--this is where I'm supposed to be." It was absolutely inspiring.

    I have a question to the other subscribers. Hey guys, I've been subscribing to a lot of channels over the years and right now I'm with more than fifty different channels, some of them I barely even remember what they were about. But I always loved brain scoop and their high quality and carefully implemented content, watching it whenever a new video came up. Usually the channels are organised from top to bottom related to the frequency and time you check it. So, for some weird reason I don't know, thebrainscoop was at the bottomest spot of the list right now, and this video didn't show on the newsfeed. Did this happen to you guys as well? Could this be youtube's AI doing weird things?
    I'm asking this because there wasn't that many views on this video, even though it is really great like the others. So it could have happened to others. But don't worry brainscoop, if youtube for some reason didn't show this video on the feed, I'm coming here manually from time to time in order to force the AI to make you show up again. You guys are awesome! Keep being awesome!

    If an controlled environment can help specimens last longer, couldn't the museum build an environment control dome over the elephants after this round of repairs?

    • @thebrainscoop
      @thebrainscoop  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If money is limitless then the world is our oyster- unfortunately the repairs are costly enough as it is.

    • @MireyaRivera
      @MireyaRivera 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes sense, but is also unfortunate. It seems that if the museum could raise the funds for something like that, then costly repairs like the ones being done now would be needed less down the road. Of course, that doesn't change the difficultly in raising even more money right on the heals of this project. Especially since the museum surely has to consider other projects that are also in need of funds.
      Thank you for talking about this. Maybe the right philanthropist will see this video and fully fund the building of an environmental control dome for the elephants? (Yes, not likely, but, you never know, right?)
