  • Cut-Rate Commander - Episode 9 - Featuring Codie, Vociferous Codex
    Strixhaven's animated spellbook joins us today in a brew with no other permanents (apart from lands) focusing on beating our opponents with their own creatures - either by create copies of them, steal them, or reanimate them - or drowning them in tokens, with a few more potent spells thrown in for good measure.
    Let me know if the comments below if you agree with my choices and/or what you would add to the deck instead. Also, let me know know who you would like to see next by voting on in the comments on the three choices of commander listed at the end of the video. .

      Came across this brewing Cody. Hmm this tech is pretty interesting I can't decide between big mana and dragons with Dragon's Approach. I feel like this would yield more different gameplay outcomes and be more fun. Irencrag Feat I feel is a must have you turn 4 mana into 7 and Codie turns red mana back into rainbow getting a bomb out early. Also Fevered Suspicion seems like a win here for sure (its new from precon). Im sad in these big mana things if I dont have apex of power seems to also work here. Mob Rule is also an excellent budget alternative to Insurrection its rare that the problem on the board isn't either all the big things or all the little things like a token deck.

    This is fun! Great deck as always Mr. Grazzet; i'm a bit worried for the safety of Codie, since it's so crucial to untap with it, but it doesnt seem that difficult to go off either. I'm torn between Zimone and Gyome, but Zimone seems more like a "generic" simic commander, so my vote is for Gyome, expecting tasty results. Cheers!

      Your not wrong, once our opponents figure out what your up to they'll want to tear Codie up page by page - hopefully you'll have accumulated enough for an advantage that it won't matter at that point.
      That's another Vote for the for the Iron Man Chef - what's he cooking in there? Looks like everyone wants a taste!

      Another vote for Gyome. What will I give him to put in the food? Whatever he want for course, unless I want to end up as part of the meal. But he may be joined by other chefs to ensure that everyone gets fed to their hearts content. Maybe some big eater wills be joining us too... We'll see.

    I have a similar Codie deck that I built that got me 3 extra turns... on turn 3 lul.
    1. Watery Grave + Sol Ring
    2. Basic Land + Codie
    3. Basic Land, tap sol ring + 2 basics, activate codie giving WUBRG, tap watery grave for blue and cast Time Warp. Codie trigger got me Fury Storm - of which I got one extra copy - both of which targeted my time warp on the stack.

    Really great video on cody, I'm going to replace all the extra turn effects since I'm not a fan of those but otherwise this video was just the guide I needed to see an outline of the deck I want to build. Love it!

  • @mofomiko
    @mofomiko ปีที่แล้ว

    I have build a very similiar list based on your Video, overall its pretty sweet and i like it. But i found by going with the Copy/Steal theme so much, its hard to get ahead, sinde you only end up getting as good as the best player on the board - and everyone loses their shit in the process.
    Plus everyone seems to see me as a free punching bag, even though it doesnt make much sense in the long run.
    You got any recomendations on how to smooth things up?

    Been playing this with some friends and I have to say it is quite fun, what are upgrades you would consider for this deck? Not turbo expensive stuff but things you think could help it out but are slightly out of budget range? I'm also curious as to why you didn't put in a couple more 1 cost spells with suspend spells for codie to flip. Thanks!

    • @GrazzetMTG
      @GrazzetMTG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Apart from the cards in the upgrades section - Ezuri's Predation is a another good way to spawn in an instant army and wipe our most or all of our opponents creatures in the process &Praetor's Counsel lets us get all our used spells back to hand and remove's our maximum hand to give all our spells a second chance to be used. Hope that helps!

    Bonus Round, Doublecast, and/or Howl of the Horde would really be good for Codie.

    • @GrazzetMTG
      @GrazzetMTG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The issue with these is that you would have to cast them from hand in order to get their benefit - since if Codie hits them with his ability, they would still need to follow timing restrictions, so the first spell would still resolve before we get the spells benefit, The forks we run bypass this since they are all instants and we can play immediately in response on the stack to copy the spell before it resolves.

    How do you win?

    • @GrazzetMTG
      @GrazzetMTG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The wincons would either be using your own opponents stuff to beat them with, with a decent number of spells either taking their creatures outright from either the field (Blatant Thievery) or grave (Ghastly Conscription, Boneyard Parlay), or creating token copies of them (Clone Legion), while also running plenty of forks to ensure we get to double up on these effects. Otherwise, if our opponents don't have good targets we do have ways to flood the field with our own tokens (Army of the Damned) as a backup - though not as reliable.
