Chill Beatmaking On The Yamaha QY-70

  • The Yamaha QY-70 hasn't been getting the attention it deserves on this channel, and I felt it was time to fix that! It's a marvelous little device that feels a bit like an OP-1 crossed with a Gameboy. And they're quite cheap for all the functionality they offer! Look out for more QY-70 content on the horizon, and maybe on this channel as well. Thanks!

Hi Josh. My name is Josh and I like making music too! I picked up a QY just a few weeks ago and have been noodling around with it. It's a really fun tool once you learn a bit about the interface. Thanks for the helpful video.

I have one in the basket; is the interface irritating or is it pretty straightforward?

@@TommyGreen333 I realize you may have asked Joshua Marks that, and also you've probably gotten one by now, but if you're cool with me chiming in and are still considering one, I think the interface feels antiquated and kinda clumsy as a result. It's clearly not the ide go at this sort of "production studio in a box" product. But it's not too tough or unintuitive to learn, and once you get used to its limitations, the QY-70 can feel pretty smooth to use.

Love seeing the oddballs get some love. I actually ended up with one of these that has a broken screen, still haven't taken the time to replace it. This is making me want to pull it out, nice work

hi Josh, kool video, i just have 1 question: how u connect the Yamaha sequenser to the piano?

    • @JoshIsMakingMusic
      @JoshIsMakingMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks! And it's plugged in with a MIDI cable.

Hi Josh, does your X3 Mini controller has an uneven in the first and the last keys? I´ve the same keyboard but mine has these keys a little lower height. Other question is about it´s is possible to control a regular MIDI (DIN) device connected to the X3 Mini by the DAW in a PC, when also using the USB connection at the same time. Thanks.

Rescribing subturner here! Sounding good! Nice to hear more of the QY. They seem to be handy and easy to use.

Thank you for being a faithful scubstrider! The QY really is fun to use.

Is there any lag on this, using a midi piano as controller? I mean, if you plug a midi piano into a computer, usually there'll be a tiny lag, but usually with straight midi controlling a synth or something, there's zero lag.

I haven't noticed any lag, though (and this may have more to do with the midi keyboard) sometimes the velocity response feels inconsistent.

Wish you played more of the Al Stewart riff, 1976 is very early 90's though 😉. I just bought a qy70 to replace the psr530 I was using as a sequencer. I actually love the Yamaha auto acc.everyone else seems to hate.

I was never a good history student. 😉
The auto acc. is a pretty cool feature. Even if you don't use it in a finished song, it can be really useful for getting ideas.

I was playing with creating styles on the PSR, found the most interesting stuff came from ignoring the "only create patterns in C major" rule 🤯 and turning the virtual arranger on. Not sure if the qy70 has that feature as it's still in the post.

This is pretty neat. I was thinking about getting one of the QYs to be the brain of a small synth setup. If I understand correctly, these things can send midi to multiple synths/drum machines at once for whole songs, right? About how many songs can you store on the QY-70?

Wish there was more on the QY70 on TH-cam. Great demo thnx. Just wish Yamaha had kept this line up as they are awesome. Actually playing with mine at the moment 👌👍
