I have a QY-70 collecting dust after buying it off Reverb. Had a hard time finding decent tutorials for it but stumbled onto your channel. You make catchy tunes with it. Someday I’m going to buckle down and watch one of these to help learn the ins & outs of this cool tech.
Great videos about the QY-70, I have one and love it! Recently I discovered that in pattern mode, if the Dr3 instrument is selected we can choose 'Drum edit' and further tweak the pitch/reverb etc of individual drum hits :) (thought I'd leave this here since it might be helpful to other QY users) Again, great content, keep it up!
@@audiowanderer glad I could help (hint: the Dr3 is not under drum kits, it's all the way to the 'right' when selecting the instrument). I've discovered that the tweaks we do on that Dr3 instrument persist across tracks, so we can reuse that instrument at will. I also discovered that we can change the 'base' kit we chose to customise, although not *all* sounds are customisable but most are. If you do discover some more stuff please give some feedback :D Cheers
I love this video! This is great content for learning how to use the QY series from Yamaha. Thanks a lot. Had a great time watching/listening/learning.
I love the QY-70 ! We use it for live shows and it's such a fun thing to play with ! It's great for synth-pop/techno-pop , Freezepop used to compose whole albums with it. Anyway, cool beat !
Hi there ! I'm coming back on this comment as I'm having a bit of a trouble with the QY-70 and was wondering if you had experienced the same thing. Lately I'm getting the "memory full" message, also I only have maybe 4 songs ( in song mode with the pattern step way of recording ). Each song being around 200/300 bar. That doesn't seems to be a lot, so I'm wondering if something similar ever happened to you or anyone using the QY, device being full while only 15/20 patterns are used... Thanks anyway :) !
Absolutely, is pretty normal. The lack memory of the QY70 is a classic. There is a data filter program that help you to dump all the midi out of the machine but never tried. I just record all the tracks separately and delete the songs to make new ones. Not the best but works to me
Very cool!! I like it. You make me buy a qy10...now you'll make me buy a qy100 (yes I know this is a qy70 but the qy100 is the one I can take here in my country). Shame on you...tempter!!! :)
Sorry for that. I consider QY10 a good starting point for the QY series but is a very limited machine. Hope you get that machine cheap. I highly recommend QY70 before QY100, is cheaper (sometimes) and has better audio output.
@@audiowanderer it's not cheap like 3 or 4 years ago...now are more and more expensive. It's cheap for today prices...qy 70 are difficult to find here and more expensive. Why the audio output are better on the qy 70?? This information could help me to chose to buy or not (Shakespearian style)!!!
I saw a comparison years ago and the QY70 seems to have a best balanced audio and a bit compressed signal that make it have more punch. Also is smaller than the QY100 and have the same sounds. The difference is that the QY100 have an audio input signal that works as an aux channel where you can add FX. Perfect for live guitarist, for example. Maybe you can find that video searching on TH-cam.
@@audiowanderer aah ok, so once the root key is selected are parts entered automatically "in key"? for instance, when you enter the bass part do you have to be careful about knowing the key, or will the QY only enter notes that are in key? thanks for the quick reply!
Notes are transposed to fit on the root key selected. So if you play a bunch of notes that not suit with the root key that you select it will sound funny
That bass took me by surprise!
Certainly, the basses of the QY-70 are superb.

Oh, I have to test that feature. Thanks for the tip.

Sure! Maybe I'll do a vid if I find something interesting to share.
Oh thats a huge tip. Im sure this is true for the QY100 also. Ill test later.

Great to help people to understand this Awesome machine
Nice work 💯👍
nice composition
Really cool! I just got myself one of these - looking forward to getting to know it.
Don’t forget to check my other videos about the Yamaha QY70 th-cam.com/play/PLmjFsb-8CAxNUp2Ie4pxXtOTy7m9aeM4p.html
@@audiowanderer Yes - I watched another one you made, great too! Also keen to see how my unit goes as a MIDI sequencer for other gear.

Once you have a beat going turn the metronome off in the utility menu :)
Nice! Thank you! How to turn off the effects from the drums? 0:20
On the mixer screen you can go the fx of the channel and put it on zero
@@audiowanderer many thanks for your reply. Helped me a lot 🙏🎶
No problem. Happy to help
What an awesome beat, great work!
Thanks! This lil machine is Awesome
Great video, I'm still learning on my QY70. Do you use Song Mode at all? Or mostly Pattern Mode?
I use song for sequence inner instruments on the QY70 but mostly pattern is my workflow on this amazing unit
yes.

@@audiowanderer veri kind. Thank you!!! Great!
So does the QY70 allow you to choose a scale/key and stay in it for all the parts?
Every pattern has a root key that you can change altering all the sounds on that pattern to sound on the key selected
