    Got fit by John a few weeks ago and was really surprised that I got fit into T200's with Accra 80i R shafts. I'm not a senior nor have a slow swing speed, but it just shows that everyone's swing is unique and having a great fitter to help you get the most out of your clubs is totally worth it. I'm stoked with the potential of the new clubs and the black graphite shafts look awesome!

    I should add - conceptually I understand what is happening. As a newbie I own a set of 30 yo (roughly) Tommy Armour golf clubs. The small-sized Driver, other Woods and irons are steel. Although I'm learning SW->7I and can hit them well, i was shocked to pick up a 2020 Cobra SpeedZone Xtreme Driver - all graphite. Wow. Just WOW. Size of the head, forgiveness and, most importantly, the weight of the club simply allowed me to hit much better. The quite stark difference was there to see and feel. Sure, not may others have such a grand canyon gap of clubs like myself, but it goes to show that even in such circumstances as you described with your customer - given time and knowledge you can get an increase and preferred outcome on anything. Excellent job.

      The one thing I want to key in on in your statement is the time, a good fitting does take time and it’s one that should look at all of the variables not just a couple. Thank you again for sharing.

    John, Thanks for the video, really enjoyed it. I am in the process of switching from steel to graphite in my irons. I am 72 years old and have a 7-8 handicap. Currently I am playing the Mizuno JPX 850 with KBS C-Taper lite shafts (105 g) hard stepped R-flex fitted by Mizuno. I was fitted for new irons in Jan 2020: Calloway Apex 19 with KBS Tour Graphite 70g R-flex shafts but didn't buy them as Covid took hold. I am looking into graphite shafts again. My latest fitting numbers were: 1) Mizuno JPX 850 6 iron (loft=28) - Club Speed=72.9, Ball Speed=99.1, Smash=1.36, Launch=18.0, Spin=4752, Landing Angle=38.3, Cary Dist=134.6, Total Dist=148.6, Attack Angle=-1.6, Dyn Loft= 22.7; 2) Apex 19 6 iron (loft=27) - Club Speed=71.9, Ball Speed=102, Smash=1.42, Launch=19.5, Spin=4696, Landing Angle=41.7, Cary Dist=142, Total Dist=154, Attack Angle=-1.0, Dyn Loft= 24.1. Trackman data showed approx. 10 yards less dispersion (both sides) in the Apex 19 w/ graphite. My basic question is do you feel that I would get similar results by putting the graphite shafts in my Mizuno 850 heads. The cost difference is about $1500.

    • @SwingFit
      @SwingFit  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing, unfortunately I don’t think your going to see the ball speed and distance gains let alone the higher launch and apex windows in the jpx. So I would say at your age this would be without question a huge benefit as your practically getting xtra yards for same level of input your clubhead speed that is. That’s a great combination and a really good result I would be happy….

    I love your Videos and all the others you support I watch. I am in the middle of 2 fittings, one had me at Mizuno Hot metal Pro with nippon 950 stiff shafts to get my ball up in the air. The only thing that made me hesitate is that my dispersion wasn't very straight. I then called PXG and he fit me to the 0311 XF irons with the regular Elevate shafts which has me much straighter! I haven't pulled the trigger yet and I am seeing him one more time...The iron heads are a little smaller than my old King snake heads is my only confidence issue. Your Videos are the best I would love to get fitted some day at your place!

    I’m turning 60 in a few months and have noticed a decline in distance in my mid 50’s, and more recently execution/performance in the later part of the round as fatigue factors in this past year. I’ve always hit blades, but switched from stiff to regular two years ago which seemed to solve the distance problem. I still hit my 7 iron 145-155 depending on the quality of the strike which isn’t as consistent as it once was, so I’m now looking for clubs that’ll give me some forgiveness, especially towards the end of my round when I’m walking the course. I’m currently playing MP33’s and have finally switched my 3 & 4 iron’s to hybrids which has been a huge improvement in consistency. I’m looking to trade in my blades for something with little to no offset since I naturally draw the ball and don’t like the look of offset irons, but provides some forgiveness while maintaining/improving consistency. I’ve also developed some left shoulder pain in the last two months. Would this be a good time to switch to graphite for my irons too?

    • @SwingFit
      @SwingFit  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Without question making the move to graphite can help out tremendously. Not only from a fatigue factor but also from a body ache perspective. In regard to irons, I would say Mizuno Pro225, P770, and possibly new Titleist t200, might all be irons worth considering. The Srixon ZX5 could be another wild card but only if the offset doesn’t trip you up. If you can find a dealer who has Accra graphite shafts then seek them out as they are a really good shaft.

    Hey John! This is the first of your videos I have seen and I am now a subscriber! As an Engineer, I often over analyze my golf game and the numbers off my launch monitor causing me to question my whole bag of clubs regularly. I am currently fitted with Nippon N.S. Pro 950GH Stiff flex in my P790 TI irons. When they fit me, they only looked at my speed and none of the other key metrics. My average distance for my 9i (approx. 152 +/-5), 8i (approx. 166 +/-5), 7i (approx. 173 +/-5). My ball flight most of the time is MID at best, I like the look of it for the most part but don't know if it should be higher. For a few months now I've felt like there was more gas in the tank, like I, or the clubs, weren't properly optimized, like more yards were able to be had. Now, I could be 100% wrong, I might actually be at the peak of my ability and my Irons abilities but I like to see data to prove that so I really appreciate videos like this. So, Thank You! After doing some research and watching 100's of videos I decided I would try switching to the Mitsubishi OT100 in a Stiff flex. I have been told by 2 or 3 Pro's in my area that switching to graphite would be a mistake and that I would immediately regret my decision without any type of explanation as to why it would be a mistake. I haven't been able to find a good fitter in my area that can fit "Shafts" to me and my swing. (You would think there would be many capable in this area - SAV, GA) The closest is Golf Tec in Jacksonville (100Mi). My questions are, why would they immediately try and steer me away from graphite? Do you see any benefits switching from my current shaft to the Mitsu? Thank you again for the videos, and any comments you might have related to this.

    • @SwingFit
      @SwingFit  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I’m not sure i would have taken the hard line as they did, but I would say without questions they could be the best shaft for you or it could be a complete did. Now just based off what you shared 150 with 9 iron isn’t anything to shake a stick at, heck the avg. 7 iron distance on tour right now is 165-170… but I do know in order to achieve this number your swingspeed needs to be around the mid to high 80’s if not low 90’s. So my immediate concern would be that those shafts may be a little too soft for your speed and once again I am doing a fair amount of speculation.😎 so graphite is good but depending on your goals and needs I would likely explore other steel options first, one it’s cheaper, and two there are far more options available… I know it’s a hike for you but we would gladly welcome you if you were ever in the area.

    Yes, I bought a new set of Callaway Mavriks this summer via a fitting at a Callaway day at a local golf club. My results were COMPLETELY the reverse of your customers, and I think this is due to my swing being very different. My 7-iron carries about 165-170 yards, and I develop power via hip rotation and weight shift - not "handsie" at all. I tried all the graphite shafts he had - mostly from 60 to 75 grams. By far the best shaft for me was the steel True Temper Elevate ETS 95. It gave me better carry, dispersion, and good flight height. Just illustrates how matching the shaft to the swing is so important, in this case opposite result.

    • @SwingFit
      @SwingFit  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are so spot on in fact we did exactly this and tested the result of someone not necessarily with a faster swingspeed but someone with a harder faster transition and just like you stated we saw the exact opposite. So it just drives home the point that sometimes how fast you swing is less important then that of how you load it…thanks for sharing.

      @philr1924 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also have had somewhat of a reverse experience. I had cobra irons with a 103g Stiff steel shaft for maybe 10 years (have slower ss). Decided to get new irons maybe 3 yrs ago. Was fit with Rouge w/60g graphite. Couldn't hit them, swapped for Rouge x w/same shaft, swapped for Apex 19 w/60g MB white. Same story. Friend suggested trying heavier steel. Tried Modus 105g stiff in Zx5s. Killing them! Long story short, it's ok to go to graphite, but beware of the weight, swing weight, etc.

    • @JDSFLA
      @JDSFLA 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@philr1924 Just to take this a bit further...I tried the NS Modus 105g stiff a couple of years ago (in a Mizuno Hot Metal 919 - same head the man in this review had) and hated it. Felt too stiff and "boardie" and no kick at all. Then I tried the True Temper Dynamic Gold 105g stiff and it was just wonderful. The fitter said that these two shafts are the same weight, but very different bend properties. So even steel shafts the same weight and flex can play very differently. You just have to try them to find a good one for your swing.

    • @philr1924
      @philr1924 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JDSFLA That's really interesting. I realized I had a typo. I'm hitting the 105 R really well. I wanted to order a mixed set of 5's and 7's. The only one available had the 105 S so I ordered it. Will be interesting to see if I like that shaft. Not many choices these days.

    • @JDSFLA
      @JDSFLA 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@philr1924 When I ordered my Callaway Mavriks at the beginning of the summer, I got regular flex for the first time. I have always been between stiff and regular, and I find the regular much better. I get more kick with less work, and can focus more on my mechanics without trying to swing hard. Result, more distance, better consistency. Icing on the cake is that I bought through the Callaway rep and the custom fit (1" long, 2* upright, midsize grip, 2 wraps, TT Elevate ETS 95 shafts) was ordered on a Friday, and the next Friday they were at my door. Best set of irons I ever had, and can't beat that service - on the Callaway web site the wait was 6-8 weeks.

    I have specific related question. I’m not interested in new iron heads and my distance is quite acceptable, 7-iron carry in minimal wind is 175. I like my current ball flight and still have ability to control my flight dynamics except the occasional ballooned shot into wind. My clubs are “traditional lofts” and weaker than most, PW is 48* and I go from there in 4* increments but this gives me the spin to better control ball flight thus no intention to strengthen them. Exact makeup is Muira CB-501 w/Modus 120 Tour stiffs. Love the consistency and control. I would like to keep its positive attributes but add some vibration dampening and if I get a 2 mph boost in head speed with lower mass shaft, that’s good as well. The dampening is primary issue as I suffer elbow tendinitis when playing more than 2-rounds a week in Summer. Yes, I’m recently retired at 62 and intending to play more golf.
    Given my intention to keep my Miura irons, how exactly do I get fit for composite shafts since my clubs haven’t been modified for demo shafting? Is there a specific shaft you’d recommend I try that closely assimilates the Modus 120 Tour? I am an average to slow tempo with smooth transition at top.
    Very much appreciate the response.

    • @SwingFit
      @SwingFit  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing The only shaft I know that closely resembles the Bend profile of the Modus 120, is the UST prototype 125 and 95. The 110 doesn’t quite match up. If you can find a fitter who has that shaft or ability to test it then I would just find a fitter who would be willing to build you a club. So I would see if you can find an extra 7 iron head and have it built up to your exact same specs and then you can compare side by side. In regards to weight lighter weight could throw your speed and tempo of but it sounds like your a pretty good golfer so even if you drop to 95, I think you would be fine, and would be something to get you into your 70’s. But once again I would encourage you to test on one before swapping everything out.

      Your numbers are pretty darn good, I would say that you are all but optimized. To get ball speeds in the range you are at 85-86mph is also really good. The thing I would say that you need to keep an eye on would be spin if that starts to get north of 6000, your likely going to see some issues unless the reason your spin is getting higher is because of more speed. Other then that I would not change your numbers and in this situation I would say the club numbers would be my main focus. Lock in what your current club path and face to path numbers are along with your aoa, and then do your best to maintain that because if your ball numbers ever get off it’s going to because of your delivery and if you know what baseline is you will know what is out of whack to fix it. Hope this helped.

      Depends on how and where you load your shaft, but with that swing speed, normally a regular would be a better fit than stiff.
