    LESSON : 22
    1. Jurisdiction Over the Subject Matter
    2. Jurisdiction Over the Offense
    3. Jurisdiction Over the Person of the Accused
    4. Jurisdiction Over the Territory
    ----------------
1.) A court can only have jurisdiction over a claim if it has the power to hear the specific kind of claim that is brought to that court. While litigating parties may waive personal jurisdiction, they cannot waive subject-matter jurisdiction when making a claim to a court.

Jurisdiction over the person of an accused is acquired upon either his apprehension, with or without warrant, or his submission to the Court's jurisdiction.
3.) In rem jurisdiction is implicated when an object or piece of land is the subject of a legal action. In rem jurisdiction there is. jurisdiction over the persons or entities, such as corporations or partnerships, involved in the lawsuit.
4.) Extraterritorial jurisdiction is the situation when a state extends its legal power beyond its territorial boundaries.

Good day Atty., on our last video lecture you’ve taught us the meaning of Jurisdiction, now you went further and gave us knowledge about the kinds of Jurisdiction. First kind is Jurisdiction Over the Subject Matter, that explains that every jurisdiction has a subject matter. It is the power to decide case based on its nature as determined laws. Second kind is Jurisdiction Over Offense, that jurisdiction is based on its imposable cause. Third kind is Jurisdiction Over the Person of the Accused, that is jurisdiction when the person is brought to court either by virtue of arrest or by his voluntary submission. And the last kind of jurisdiction is the Jurisdiction Over the Territory, that jurisdiction is when the act is committed or any of essential elements occurred within its territory. Thank you Atty., for this knowledgeable video I’m looking forward for the answer of the last question you asked before the lecture ends, maybe in the live consultation. Good day Atty., Thank you for another insightful video lecture today. After watching the video, I learned about different kinds of jurisdiction, together with their distinction and relevance. As mentioned in the video lecture, the first kind of jurisdiction is the jurisdiction over the subject matter. It is distinct from other jurisdictions by means that it is the power to hear, determine, and decide based on its nature as determined by law. For instance, The Sandiganbayan shall exercise exclusively in the crime related to graft and corruption. Second, the jurisdiction over the offense is the power to hear, determine, and decide, which is based on the imposable penalty. For instance, if the crime has an imposable penalty of more than six years the one which had jurisdiction is the regional trial court. Third, the jurisdiction over the person of the accused is the power to hear, determine, and decide, which is by virtue of the arrest or by his voluntary submission. And lastly, the jurisdiction over territory is the power to hear, determine, and decide based on essential elements that occurred within its territory. To sum it up, it was a concise and fruitful discussion widening our knowledge about the different kinds of jurisdiction and their distinction from one another. Thus, after watching, it makes me curious and looking forward to more video lectures of yours. Thank you so much, and God bless.

Good Day Atty.! The importance of determination of jurisdiction relating to regular and special courts. Especially with regards to: 1) the nature as determined by laws; 2)the imposable penalty; 3) virtue of arrest or by voluntary submission; and 4) the essential elements happening within the court's territory. As these determine jurisdiction, one must be well-versed, to avoid dismissal of the court when there is no jurisdiction.
