Eating a plant-based diet improves the health of your gut so you are better able to absorb the nutrients from food that support your immune system and reduce inflammation. Fiber can lower cholesterol and stabilize blood sugar and it's great for good bowel management.

I was already a vegetarian when my mom died of colon cancer. The last time I saw her, I decided I was never going to eat anything that didn't come from the ground or a tree. No one's perfect, but I think at 82, I can say that I can attribute some good health reports to the high fiber diet. Plant based for the win.

This is amazing to hear! I really wpukd love to get my spouse on this but he is still stuck on the protein "kick." He has gained alot of weight since covid and developed sleep apnea. I unfortunately know he sneaks things here and there. Not alot but still I am concerned for his health. He is trying but again its the keto bs he does. Keto messed up my microbiome in so many eays and I paid for it and still am. I am almost completely plant based but do have eggs and chicken here and there. Maybe fish every once in awhile. Happy that you were able to drop lbs and all of those meds. So great!

I lost 15lbs in just my first month on a plant-based diet. In six months I was down a total of 40lbs; triglycerides went from 190 to 69; total cholesterol from 225 to 175 (I'm hoping that goes down some more); and no more signs of chronic inflammation. Today is day 29 for me. 30 days ago I was on the DAD (Deadly American Diet). That's the same as the SAD (Standard American Diet) but just a more accurate acronym. 29 days ago I started eating a 100% produce-only, whole foods, plant-based diet. Fruit and greens, beans, seeds, nuts, legumes and vegetables. If it comes in a box or a bag, was manufactured or processed in any way, if there is literally more than one ingredient on the label, I have not consumed it. And I went from chicken wings, pizza, cheeseburgers, fish, pasta (almost exclusively from ordering from DoorDash and restaurant food only) to 100% prepared meals at home. By the end of week one I was sicker than I had ever been in my life. My guts were ON FIRE, but the worst symptom of all was I literally could not walk. I had to fight to get out of a chair. I had ZERO energy. I questioned what I was doing and considered perhaps I had made a mistake going "full retard" (from the film Tropic Thunder do don't get triggered). But I stuck it out. By the end of week two I was just about to cash in and call it a day and eat some "real food". I hung on just a few more days and the it happened...a 180 degree turn around in how I felt. I got up (almost 2 weeks of total insomnia by the way) and a feeling of calm and well-being came over me that I had no felt since I was a teenager 35 years ago. It is night and day. I went from no energy to having more than I had on the DAD by a factor of 10. My mind is 1000 times quicker and sharper. I am NEVER giving up this feeling. Clearly I just went though a full on detox like no other. Other than maybe a water only fast, this is the best way to detox. All the massive amount of vital energy it take to cope with a poor diet is suddenly freed up and your body goes...holly shit! Now we can use some of this vital energy to clean up some of the debris and injury and illness that has been looming but we (my body's cells) didn't have available. This is known as "the law of vital economy" and its our bodies way of triaging what is in our best interest first..."worst first" kind of thing...but go from chemicals in your diet and processed foods and oils and refined sugars to pure, low calorie, high nutrient density foods and BAMM! Tons of energy to clean house, make repairs and get back to joy. If I can do this...ANYONE can do this. I have lost 18 pounds in 28 days. I want to lose another 20 or so...but I'll let my body decide what my ideal weight is. I'll start a B12 and EPA/DHA supplement in the near future. For now: only drink is water (never a pre-made drink - which is food by the way) no fragmented foods (like making orange juice and removing the pulp which helps slow the absorb glucose metabolisn and prevent spikes) water saute only (oil-free life from now on - oil is 120 calories for table spoon regardless of what type it is and has zero nutritional value and is pro-inflammatory) lots of greens and colorful vegetables, beans, etc. And 45 min. of balls to the wall high intensity exercise (like weight/resistance/pull ups/push ups etc.) or 90 min. a day of light and easy exercise (like fast walking). I am BORN AGAIN and feel 15 years old. Hardest month of my life. But if you're going to make a change don't do it half assed...DO IT RIGHT. VINCIT QUI SE VINCIT!

It's not the Western Diet the issue in itself, it's the modern western eating habits, which I consider 2 different things. Start buying fresh and unprocessed food, balance meals well to get the good amounts of macro and micro, get rid of most sugars and sweeteners, eat only 2 or 3 times a day, never more than that, move and exercise. And at that point all diets are good. Which is best is still under debate and probably depends from person to person (and some foods are probably wrongly demonised). At that point even a whole-bread, grass-fed, veggy-filled hamburger is fine (maybe not every meal). By the way, TMAO is an indicator and not a really strong one, so cycling between different good protocols I think is the best idea.

In fact, most of our staff is obese, our nurses specially, very frustrating! I am studying clinical nutrition now, and more frustrated to learn that the literature on nutrition is pretty solid. Unfortunately many doctors are more invested on performing multiple procedures a day as opposed to read the medical literature and referring their patients for nutritional therapy. He had no knowledge at all of the reversal of heart disease through a wholefood plant based diet. This was a highly committed and knowledgeable physician who prided himself in staying up to date with research. There is something going wrong with the way we are educating and communicating if senior and influential physicians like this are so far behind the curve.

They are stubborn. Doctors aren’t taught how to prevent diseases, they are taught how to ease the symptoms of disease. My husband is a doc so I know. They go through all diseases breathily, They don’t go in depth of what causes that particular disease... they like to say it’s genetics.
My was in a hospital with gallstones and when I asked doc why do I have gallstones he couldn’t give me an answer. I asked is it from foods I ate? He said no. He wanted to operate my gallbladder but didn’t know what caused gallstones. My husband doesn’t know either. So while I was in hospital with huge inflammation I did google how to flush gallstones(how to get rid of them) So I found out that I should be fasting and drinking a lot of liquids. So that’s what I did I drank only water, tea, and liquid soup twice in 3days. Then over the weekend I asked if I could go home as I have 2kids and I said I will be back early Monday morning. Doctor said ok but he wanted to do blood test again before I go. Then on Sunday called me while I was home and he said he got good news, inflammation gone and that they are puzzled and want to do a ct scan on Monday. They did a scan and saw that gallstone which caused all the trouble was flushed out. My doctor was very confused, said he had no explanation to that and asked me what have I done. I told him that I stopped eating, I was fasting. So my problem was gone, I could go home and didn’t need operation anymore.
Then later I got another problem - under-active thyroid. My doctor didn’t know what caused it. Just told me it’s genetic or could be other causes( but couldn’t explain) and gave me medication.
What I wanted to say that doctors don’t get to the root of illness they just treat symptoms. If you want to heal seek advice from dietitian or nutritionist. They did they research.

In countries with social medicine, sickness is a burden on the health service and on the taxpayer and there is much more incentive to keep people healthy. Especially as the aging population threatens to overwhelm resources.
So outside the US, I suspect that it's more of a cultural issue - medicine is a conservative profession and new ideas take time to become accepted - especially if they are perceived as low-tech and unsexy. Boys do like their toys...

But, I’m pretty sure I know why… Yet, many in the health field in 2022 are now aware of how to maintain proper health (i.e. plant based diet, exercise, hydration, and sleep), but they do not share this information with patients. That being the case, I vow to maintain a healthy lifestyle so that I can wean myself away from the non supportive “health care” system in this country.

Because it's nutritionally incomplete. Any diet that requires heavy supplementation and eating food out of season from all over the world, can never be the proper human diet.

@Bill T I live in a country where my meat contains none of that, so yours is a straw man argument based on the complete ignorance about countries other than yours. Your wfpb diet contains so many artificial chemicals (fertilisers, insecticides, anti fungals) that I don't know where to start and that's irrespective of the country you live in. And if you're only taking 1 supplement I suggest you research all the essential amino acids missing in plants before you destroy your health...

The research and science is there as proof that a WFPB diet is what we should all be aiming for and sticking with. I`m in my middle sixties and after nine years as a healthy eating vegan i have definitely been healthier since ditching all animal products, and all the health issues i used to have all went within a few weeks. Food facts and education should start in the home. When we know better we can live better.

It was great but I hoped to hear about what a drastic sudden change does right away. I remember, for example, I started having more bowel movements than what I was eating! After a few days it regulated out. Also, the more energy, breathe better for some, sleep better for some? My experience goes back 39 years when I was oh so young, but I sure remember calling my doctor - what is this?? I am pooping more than I am eating!! He asked, is it diarrhea? No. Is it painful? No. Have you done anything different? Yes, I stopped eating meat and dairy. Don't worry about it, he said. He was right. : ) meateaters out there - your colons are stuffed. Apparently it takes days and days to process out the meat. Damn I feel great at 64. Thanks to Dr. McDougall and Dr. Barnard and others that followed and those that came earlier because we know this information has been out there fore more than 100 years but government is in bed with meat and dairy - and big pharma. Period. I don't even have a primary care physician.

I think a huge hurdle that a lot of people have and are unaware is that they are addicted. To salt, sugar, taste and etc. our consumption of sugar is so high, fruits become bland. Salt intake is so high, less salty foods turn bland and some foods have addictive properties. Some people people need to come to terms with this first otherwise this is a HUGE hurdle to jump into a healthy diet. I love this channel! Keep it up!

I am trying to help a friend with stage 4 cancer. It is hopeless. The entire 25+ years I have known him, he has eaten fast food almost daily and thinks cooking is heating up a frozen pizza or other processed junk.Every day, I offer him to come pick up healthy meals I make for myself. He is so addicted to the fast food, any other food is disgusting to him.I offered him "normal" food, not tofu or things like that. So far this week he refused a salad (because I made it with Greek olive oil, fresh lemon, braggs vinegar- he said even if he put one of his favorite processed bottled salad dressing on it, the salad was ruined because of all that health stuff I put in it). Made him a simple cut up orange, pineapple salad with pomegranate seeds. Refused it and would not eat a bowl of fresh cut up watermelon, I even took the seeds out. He's 70 now and I have to have the fact he won't make it. Yesterday, he called that he just got back from eating breakfast out. Asked him what he ate, hoping it was just eggs. Nope, an o omelet with bacon, sausage, ham and cheese in it. The processed food addiction is worse than a drug addiction.

I’m on day 10 today being on a plant based diet along with no oils of any kinds, no nuts, no peanuts or peanut butter, and no seeds. I have already lost 8 of the 67 pounds I put on after I quit smoking and because of isolation due to covid, in only 10 days. I am convinced it’s the diet I must be on. Not only due I have weight to lose but I also have hardening in one of the chambers of my heart because of my years of smoking... I’m doing it for my heart health as well. One difference I am seeing is how much I am going #1(peeing). I got up about 5 times last night to use the bathroom. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I hope that stops soon. Great video! Thank you !

Interesting perspective and although I did the same - it was with a slight twist. Starting off on 31 January 2022 with a RAW PLANT BASED diet - 80-100 grams EACH of tomato, cucumber, orange, onion, Red/Green Cabbage, Grapefruit, pears, apples and turnips - one fruit a day, the meal turned out to be about 500 grams of Salad.
Initially, for the first week or so, had some mortadella or Chicken Salami - about 5 slices - till I was shocked to death - more than 50-60 grams of protein can cause cell proliferation and eventually lead to cancer. Eventually substituted the mortadella with Jeddal Cheese - almost Mozzarella family, 100 grams - consisting 77-78 grams of fat and 22-23 grams protein.
So, let's say 10 Feb 2022 till date - 18 March 2022 - 4-5 vegetables, one fruit and 100 grams of cheese. Technically eating an almost exact double and there's no heaviness after the meal AT ALL.
Recently started adding a teaspoon of Red Grape vinegar or a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice. And one tablespoon of Avocado oil OR Olive oil - both Organic.
The details are on my Instagram karandx99
But yeah, no seed oils and raw food, loaded in Fibre - my bacteria seem to be having a SUMMER PARTY 🥳

There is no healthy ldl cholesterol range.
We all run on different ldl and hdl levels.
The point is, when ldl becomes oxidise, is when it becomes a problem. Oxidisation is caused by processed foods sugars, fats and oils.
So. Yes... A whole plant base diet is the way to go, But the ldl cholesterol is not the issue itself.
