  • Oops, I accidentally gave 5 things I love! I just wanted y'all to hear some of the positives of chinese bike ownership, and what I love most about my Lifan KPM200. For $3000, I'm willing to forgive a lot, but this motorcycle impresses anyways.
    Stay tuned for the next video where I tell you five things I HATE about my Lifan- they aren't what you'd expect ;) Thanks for watching and if you enjoyed, consider subscribing. I'll be uploading as often as I can, talking about my KPM experiences, Lifan's history as a company, and other topics related to biking on a budget!

    I am thinking really hard about getting this bike...I ride mountain bikes a lot. I've ridden a motorcycle but for a very short time way back in my younger days. I'm a little apprehensive because it's been so long. I heard you say this is your first and prior you were only riding bicycles...you have swayed me a little more towards making a purchase

    • @slow_bike_show

      So having now gotten fully into the world of motorcycles (I own a 600cc sportbike and a 250 scrambler) I can really say this is the bike to start on. Compared to a mountain bike it's heavy, but compared to any other motorcycle it weighs very little for the power its putting out- plus the seating is upright enough to make low speed stuff a breeze. Very easy to waddle if need be! As long as you aren't doing highway stuff on this bike, I'd say go for it!

    • @slow_bike_show
      @slow_bike_show  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey, thanks for the comment! The Manual suggests changing it every 3000km (about 1800 miles) and I've been changing it around that often- so far just twice. When you first get it it comes with the garbage break-in oil, which I replaced after exactly 2 miles lol. Lifan calls for 15W40, but I've been using 10W40 since it's more common without issue :)

    • @slow_bike_show
      @slow_bike_show  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I found SOME moto mechs who would work on it. Mostly small engine and scooter shops.
      If you don't mention it's Chinese, most shops are open to at least looking at it. (be prepared to pay)
      Venom Motorsports sells the parts for these bikes and gave me whatever I needed under warranty, so I was pretty much responsible for either doing my own work if need be or finding someone.
      Maintenance was dead simple though. Just pil, airbox and valves (literally just two valves lol) all of which I learned here on TH-cam since buying the bike

    How’s the suspension and how was your experience off road? And would you recommend it for longer tours (1000kms), how is it comfort wise?

    • @slow_bike_show
      @slow_bike_show  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey, great questions!
      - The suspension travel isn't the best off road, and certainly won't compare to a dedicated dual sport but it was definitely be adequate for light off roading. The stock tires are 100% for street use, but some 70/30 semi knobbies would go a long way to making this a good lightweight trail bike. Kinda like a Triumph Scrambler but smaller :)
      - it /can/ be used for longer tours depending on the speed you travel at. 80kph/50mph is a breeze and feels great, especially with a windshield, but anything over 65mph/105kph is really only comfortable for about an hour at a time. You'll be able to do that speed fine, but it feels like the bike is wrung out pretty hard in doing so. At 105kph, you're sitting at about 8,300RPM in 6th with very little passing power. They sell sprocket kits for this motorcycle which MAY be useful for you, but in truth I haven't tried them and can't vouch for whether or not they'll work well.
      With an exhaust and open air filter, it definitely has the torque to swing a bigger gear.

    • @thegreatoutthere
      @thegreatoutthere 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The best comparison is against the Honda CT125 or Grom - NOT a larger street bike. Compared to MORE EXPENSIVE mini-motos, the KPM200 has tubeless tires, larger fuel tank, and better suspension travel. Add some light knobbies and you have the perfect lightweight, nimble, and economical GRAVEL cruiser!

    • @slow_bike_show
      @slow_bike_show  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      it can... kinda! lol. The bike will do 65 all day and it'll do 70 fine, though it definitely feels tapped out at those speeds. The NBF engine on it pulls (albeit lightly) even past redline so you'd probably have luck going up a tooth on the front. I just tend to take the back roads for trips longer than 30 or so miles

    • @facebuilder7
      @facebuilder7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I've had mine a month with almost 2000 miles on it so far. I'd say half are highway miles and I cruise comfortably at 60-65 at 7000 rpm, redline starts at 10.5. Have gone on 8hr rides city and highway multiple times. Very happy with it so far!

      Super easy in Oregon and probably anywhere else. You get a US recognized VIN and an MCO+ Bill of Sale. Registering it was a breeze; if you go with Allstate for insurance, they also have the bike in their catalogue and it's like scooter level cheap to insure :)

    Has anyone ever put a bigger engine in one of these?

    • @slow_bike_show
      @slow_bike_show  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      not yet I'm afraid. The issue is that the frame just can't take many engines larger than 250-300s on account of it's single-cradle construction. If anyone were to do it, the best bet would be to throw in a GSX-250R engine since the frames are very similar. Mayyyybe an XT600 engine? Thanks for watching :)
