It's hard to believe that these cars are almost 20 years old.
Ouch saying that out loud kind of hurt me 😂
Don't remind me
Nice GTO man
Nossa corvette Porsche Dodge viper que máquina pontent 👍👍👍☕☕
That's becuz cars reached their peaked around this time, modern but still analog, the auto industry is so over regulated now I don't even get excited for new cars anymore
Porsche outgunned in that spec - for me that gen Vette is the daddy, still looks 🔥
Z06 is still a great car in 2023!
With clutch, cam , heads, intake and full bolt ons it destroys alot of cars of today.
Yup! I just got my c6 z06 in september love it
3.8 seconds to 60mph 👀 wow
Hell i just have a ls3 c6 and even thats a great car in 2023, enjoying the hell out of it
@@Eurolaflare LS3 is the best LS engine produced.
That Viper uff 😍 🔥. Vetted has aged well too. Hard to believe this trio is almost 20 years old.
I usually spend about 8 hours a day on TH-cam.
Only Motorweek can give me that warm, fuzzy feeling inside.
Go outside bro
Damn man... are you alright?
Lmao you need a job buddy
Damn! 8 hours? That can't be good for your eyes man. I mean I love TH-cam as well but not for 8 hours- that's a full work shift!
@@dr.jiIIaIicecooper2587
How about encouraging him to make better choices and habits rather than insulting him, Karen.
I don't always feel like going down into a ditch at 175 miles an hour. But when I do I make sure I'm sitting in the Dodge Viper
Stay hurting my friend
Lies. At 175mph, you’d be dead already with no safety measures except for an airbag lol
Corvette was an easy winner based on the performance you get for the price imo!!
Yeah the Corvette has always delivered a lot of bang for the buck even if the engine and suspension are old tech.
Well duh if that's your only criteria
Now factor in market value, build quality, and style... the Viper wins easy in fact they're still going up in value.
@@BRAINFxck10@BrainFuck10 the value of the viper is going up because nobody bought it, just like the MK4 supra and the NSX almost didn't sell that why price increases
@@NegativoZ06 And the MK4 A80 Supra (Fourth generation) wasn't all that compared to a base model C4 Corvette and Vipers of the 1990s. Especially the C5 Corvette and the Dodge Viper GTS Coupes
@@bghoody5665old pushrod engine and tech still whooping that ass tho lol
The first new age Vette i ever rode in was a 06 Zo6. What a car, that thing screamed like a banshee. I had been a Ford guy before that, the Z06 turned me into a car guy because i didn't want to miss anything that great because of tribal bias ever again. I now love all cars that have a fun side, if it makes you smile it makes me smile.
I just saw Vette and liked your comment.
Smiles per gallon:)
C6 Z06 is such an awesome car.
I would take it over the C8 Z06 any day
I'll take the Z-06 for the weekend and the Cayman S for the weekdays, thank you.
....both red. ;)
The Cayman has the balance between perfomance, build quality, and driving comfort compared to others with a bigger engine but though to handle
Ehh, straight outclassed here. Wrong Porsche for the test.. it’s more of a daily driver
Viper is on another level of cool
Corvettes are very much underappreciated. A stock, $65K car that you could buy at the corner Chevy dealer would run mid-11's all day - nearly 20 years ago! Many modern high-dollar performance cars can't do that. C6 Z06 is peak Corvette IMO.
65k from 2006 - thats 96k today.
I can get a low mile, C6 Z06 for 60 grand Canadian today. But then you have the Valve issues to deal with. I heard you stay away from 06-07 Z06's and you wont have such issues. I bagg my 08 C6 Z51, with the ls3 lots. And it just takes it. I might put 13500$(2.3 magnuson blower) in it this spring. Or maybe just headers and a cam.
@@christopherrobin1505 All LS7 engines had the issue, it's total BS that it was only the first two years.
A solid machine shop that does regular performance headwork can get the valve guide issue sorted. Or, a ported set of LS3 heads will also flow just as well as ported LS7 heads.
Need a more robust valve spring for the stainless valves vs the titanium valves in the Z06.
Personally, if I had a Z06 Id spend the money on getting the factory heads fixed so the original engine is complete.
@@ssoffshore5111the z28 ones didn't have the issue just the z06 ones.
Ive owned the viper and currently have the 09 Z06 and can tell you if the viper had equally sticky tires it would be a draw
I daily drive a 987 Cayman! Lovely car that handles (and sounds) like a dream!
I've got a 982 with a 2.0L turbo. It doesn't have the sound but it's got the acceleration and handling!
@@billschlafly4107 No doubt a better performing car than, and call me old-fashioned, but I don't know if I could own a Porsche than anything less than a flat-six! That six-cylinder symphony is half the reason to buy the car. Not hating on the new stuff just to hate though, nothing wrong with them.
I still want a c6 z06
Get one, you'll never want to sell it!
7.0L and 8.3L engines, you will never see engines like that again from the factory. It’s all about electric motors now
Electric = Motor. Petro = Engine.
General Motors is trying to get away from the electric b.S. And Toyota is still creating Internal Combustion Engines
@@charlesbakston7414 when has Toyota made an engine bigger then a 2.0 in the past 10 years outside of a truck/SUV application?
@@Altavilla22Mike Your point is????
@@charlesbakston7414 my point is they are not making any big engines anymore, which was the point of my original comment, which seems to have been lost on you
Yeah the zo6 is the one for me
👍
Z06 and Viper are my dream cars
Lol, my DD is a black 2008 C6Z and I have a blue and white 1996 UGR TT GTS in the garage. I love both and can't imagine selling either after all these years!
Thank you Motorweek. This was one of my favs. Please add the retro review introduction and road test to the 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera S. Another one of my favs. Love these.
The Corvette Z06 is blast and always like Z06
I'm a big euro car fan, but i'd love to own a C6 Z at some point. Great looks, and a great chassis, the engine is god tier once you sort out the issues
That Viper coupe though. Man, that thing looks sexy.
Z06 all day
I like how although they couldn't compare them directly, they showed cuts of them in their ideal situations right at the very end: the cayman in the tighter twisties, the z06 in the medium-high speed corners and the sr10 exiting a high speed bend onto a straightaway. The subtle class and integrity of this show!
2006 wasn't that long ago, it's only been 10 yea- oooh. :/
If it was 10 years ago it would be 2012. More like 17 years ago. But you might ot know that, especially when you couldn't finish spelling the word years.
@@BrandonHanson Not correcting you, although technically I am, but just pointing out how fast time is, faster than these cars. : )
10 years ago would not be 2012 but rather 2013.
Yes, we all go -oh! in face of how time flows. :/
@@BrandonHanson you didn’t get the joke 😂
lol I'm stuck in the 90's.
Guys, Brandon Hanson him self did say:
''but you might of know that, expecially when you couldn't finish spelling the word years''
Meaning he knows what Bahraini Carguy said and did, so pls relax on Brandon.
Furthermore I am thinking he may be even playing in on the joke with the:
''if it was 10 years ago it would be 2012'' comment :)))
who knows maybe it's an ongoing humour? : )
You all have a great time.
12.5 in the viper? Cmon man.
Yeah I'm pretty sure Motortend can do better than that lol
That time is from a first generation viper
This is old. Modern tires and a better driver can crack a 11.8-11.9
When a corvette beats a viper in the quarter mile that’s serious. Most times viper is a step ahead. That Z06 did us bow ties proud 🤘🏻👊🏻
My DD is a black 2008 C6Z and I have a blue and white 1996 UGR TT GTS in the garage. I love both and can't imagine selling either after all these years! I can live without the Cayman!!!
Cayman is sweet
Back when a standard Cayman sings well, now it just 2.0L Turbo H4
The Best Cars have already been made 😢
ay get out of my youtube comments bud
124mph for a C6 Z06!?!?! No wonder why they beat soooo many cars in a roll race. With modern tires the z06 will do low 3s to 60 today. Wow
Idk about low 3s this was a pretty good time for what it was considering its a manual. The tires weren't as garbage as people wanna let on this was just 2006 lol. Obviously they're better now but more than half a second off of an already really good time is eternity. I don't see it. They are awesome though.
Just can't go wrong with the Vette.
Always enjoy these retro vids, especially with vehicles of this caliber. Hard to believe this episode is nearly 17 years old. Have not seen the show lately on the MT channel, not sure if it is still aired on that channel. Of course Pat Goss is sorely missed.
I think you mean, Pat Goss.
@@pmafterdark Indeed. Appreciate that
That poor Cayman having to go up against out and out supercars
It's his fault. No one ordered it dare costing up to $59,000, so next to the Corvette!
What supercars? These middle of pack sports cars?
American supercars are tend to be cheaper than European supercars. No wonder the build quality is so terrible
@@Arayig1982 v10 with over 500hp is not a middle of the pack sportscar. Come on.
@@tuomasandersson3889 you can have a thousand horsepower, doesn't make it a supercar. Ie. Demon 😈
Fun test, shame people didn't appreciate the Viper when it was still available causing Chrysler to end production. There were rumours of a possible mid engine one floating around. Get anyone of these or all three while you still can and go have some fun!
viper dream car
No electronic aids sounds like a super fun death trap!😄
It’s crazy how far the Z06 has come since it first came out. From a pure American sports car to flat-plane American supercar fighter.
If ya wanna get technical, Z06 is an option package that started in 1963
There was no Z06 in the 90s you might be thinking of the ZR1. First modern ZO6 was 2001.
That Viper really was a beautiful beast!!! Will forever be missed sniff sniff
Would have been nice to know their lap times, but surreal this is nostalgic.
The z06 was such a weapon back then.Nothing touched it in its price range.
They are still weapons, now more than ever. People are discovering 800rwhp recipes for the stock block.
No additional weight from turbos or piping, no parasitic loss from a a supercharger. Absolutely crushing cars, even other Vettes with boost.
Legendary car.
@lexustech48 800 rwhp is an extremely aggressive heads cam intake setup with really high compression and really good fuel. That is like about as max effort as it gets. It's not that common is what I'm getting at it takes a full on race build basically.
Why did they bring the Caymans knife to the Corvette and Vipers gun fight??
Daggers 🗡hunt very well even considering when your pistols 🔫 have run out of bullets.
American brute force over European precision engineering?
Proving a point?
@KenanTurkiye If they had 2 European cars that made 70%+ more power then an American car they brought I'd ask the same question.
@@stevend3753 I was referring to the programme, bringing in American brute force to dominate over European engineering, it's nice that you are fair Steven. : )
I personally am not pro or against either American or Euro cars, as long as it's good.
But I do not like many French cars, especially the modern ones. lol
@@KenanTurkiye More than one way to achieve an outcome. What the EU fans tend to miss is the market here in the US will not support a domestic car with equal or slightly better performance for the big premium needed to justify using better materials. In the case of GM they spend on the drivetrain and suspension..etc. and save in other areas. Now that said, C8 Z06 will certainly flip this and have the EU car manufacturers scrambling to compete at a lower price point than they usually target. Oh and just in case some of you EU fans forgot US brute force manufacturing is the reason we aren't all speaking German. You're welcome.
I like the 2023 zo6 but it's something about hearing this one launch that gets to me
I love the viper but the corvette is a better car in my opinion
C6Z still to this day winning street races on TH-cam
Give me the Z06, strictly for the LS7.
What's amazing is that the C6 Z06 is still one of the best sports cars for the money!
The Cayman is incredibly out of place in this comparison haha
How fid the Porsche end up in this. That car would of been a struggle against the base Vette. It's like a Jetta VS a shelby Mustang and Camaro ZL1.
I still own the 2009 version of that Z06...
Friendly reminder that there are uploads on TH-cam that are older than these
Nice retro vid
I'd take the viper. It's the only car here who's price has only gone upwards. Plus I really like that generation.
Prices have gone upwards because they don't make them anymore. Wanna know why they don't make them anymore? Because NOBODY bought them when they were new.
@@dr.jiIIaIicecooper2587 you're a ma'am after my own heart! The looks on that model are muted. The original is a work of art! No exterior door handles, and IF I recall correctly, they were designed to go head-to-head with Lambo's at the time! My friend's dad was part of the development team, so my friend and his brothers rode to school in one before they were officially released! I'm a Vette man in my heart, but that original Viper was a poster on my wall in my youth!
The only truly timeless design will prove to be the gen 2 and 5 coupes. And values today already reflect that.
12.5??
C6 Z06 FTW!
Three dream cars!! One each please !
I'll take the Viper please. It has only appreciated in value.
And looks the best. And also the purest drivers car here
@@twhalen THANK YOU
All winners here. My pick would be the Viper, however - it's just so visceral. I have driven lots of vettes, and one Viper. The Viper is more fun. And I own an '06 vette.
Time that needs to come back
Putting Cayman S in this comparison is a bit like putting Corolla XLE in a comparison between CT5 Blackwing and M5 CS
Yeah it was definitely out of place, and underpowered big time 😆
More like Porsche 911s against big block chevelles and barracudas.
Your comparison is too far
No because these cars weren't far off on pricing. The ones you mentioned are.
Cayman brought a knife to a bazooka fight.
Z06 price $65,690 in 2006. Today that equals $93,500 with inflation.
Good reason to justify purchasing a new Caddy CT5-V Blackwing!
A person in the market for a Corvette is NOT considering a Cadillac sedan.
@@dr.jiIIaIicecooper2587 Dr Jill, you should do your research before laughing. Check out the raving reviews on the CT5-V Blackwing with 668 hp hand built & signed Supercharged gen C7 Z06 V8, 6 speed manual. Yeah. No joke
can you please upload a 2002 BMW Z4 review? Thanks
Amazing the Porsche runs 8/10ths of a second slower to 60, and has ~200hp less than the viper/vette.
All these cars will be old enough to vote in a little over 11 months! Hard to fathom
These are some spicy miatas
I can’t believe my GTi trap speed is the same as an 8.3L viper! Lol. So cool!!
They are faster than this. Something is up with this viper.
One of these things does not belong, one of these things is not like the others!
compared to the others the Z06 is a bargain
The good'ol days
The C6 would be my choice even if it wasn't a Z06.
my stock base 2011 C6 with the 6.2 has done 12.352 in the 1/4, thats quicker than the V10 Viper did in this video and absolutely destroys the Porsche lol cant go wrong with a vette
I would buy the Porsche hands down. It is built for the autobahn with sustained high revving engine and suspension to match!
I’m happy chrome wheels went the way of the Dodo. Unfortunately I live in Florida where mullet heads still think they’re cool. Ugh.
Man that z06. 427 vette, enough said.
He said the Corvette has "more aggressive cams" but it only has one lol
Why would you compare a Cayman to the Vette or Viper???
Price range
@@yudhabagaskara98 sure throw in an E Class, or Rs4 while you are at it. My point remains, it's a stupid comparassion.
@@painkilerrthey're sports cars in similar price range. I'm not sure why euro fans get butthurt that their vehicles cost alot more lol. You pay alot more money for a slightly better interior and more fancy gadgets.
Not to be a fanboy, but the trap speed gap between the Viper and the Vette seems unusually wide. 118mph would lead me to believe something wasn’t right with the Viper’s times.
LS7 🙌
in Germany we call Cayman / Boxter " housewifes Porsche " 😉
17 years later and the Z06 and Viper still looks beautiful. The Cayman not so much.
This says a lot about American auto designers.
Your comment proves how subjective beauty is
It says a lot about keeping a design for 8-10 years without planning obsolescence by putting undesirables in earlier designs and saving goodies for a 3 year refresh.
And yet it's the 1996 GTS that's still the most timeless and drooled-over!
Damn that viper is aging well
06-13 Z06 Is my dream car. Then get the motor built to 600 wheel horse. I own an 08 C6 Z51, Need more power !!!
Missing the oldies, guys.
When the C6 Z06 came out I thought: there’s no way they can make a better Corvette, and then the C6 ZR1 was announced.
In comparison the C7 Z06 and ZR1 were good cars, but they failed to generate the excitement of the C6 Vettes.
I disagree. The C6 is freaking everywhere. I see those cars all over the road during the summer time. america loves the C6, and it's sold very well compared to it's c7 counterpart. The newest Chinese pile of junk they're putting the Corvette nameplate onto doesn't even register for most Americans. And when they release the rest of the Corvette 'brand', which will include a 4 door crossover, I don't expect the car to last much longer. Considering it's price starts above $100k, it's not wonder why so many people buy the older models instead.
I recently purchased a low-mileage C5Z, but I seriously considered spending a bit more to get that LS7. The C6Z is peak Corvette IMO, all motor, manual trans - the way a Vette should be!
I prefer the look of the C6 over C7. But id rather have all the new tech in the C7. C7 looks too much like a bat mobile in my eyes
I think the C6 jumped so much in performance from the C5 and that's why it was a bit less exciting when the C7 came around. The performance difference between a C5Z to C6Z is larger than to the C7Z. Same with the ZR1 from C4 to C6. They also didn't really do anything that special for the C7. They supercharged everything which is awesome but everyone was doing that by that time. The C8 is getting so much attention because it is so different than what came before. It's not that much quicker than before(it's plenty though). Ive loved everyone I've driven and have owned a C5Z, C7z51, and now a C6Z.
@@300cmysrt8 Meh, I guess it all depends on what you're into/ focused on. I read what went into the design of the C8 and why the C7 was the limit of what they could squeeze out of the front-engine-based design. Plus why the C7ZR1 was so difficult to control compared to the Viper ACR. But one of the focal points of the C7 design was the air flow. Around the car, over the car, THROUGH the car... it all was integral in the design! Plus I remember the 1st iteration of the C6Z losing the cap off the roofs! Lol, remember that?
The C8 unlocked a whole new degree of performance and ability, so while they took their time developing and perfecting it, I love the fact that in base form, it puts numbers down that can only be improved upon. The ONLY thing I'm not a fan of is not being fitted with a manual transmission, but that won't be a problem for too long, I'm sure!
I was a senior in high school when the C6Z came out. This isn't retro....cool but not retro.
I forgot how bubbly looking cars were from this period lol
Porsche takes this easily
Guess they couldn’t find a 911
Am I tripping or does the Caymen have PCCB brakes?! surely this can not be the case...
Bring the Viper back.
Think from the other side - a car with a power of over 200 horses less can still fight with opponents.
I remember seeing this episode when it was new. Most performance cars now would mop the floor with those things. I would still love to have that Z06 now with that 427.
You can get ONE of these for under $30,000 now....
Que da hora 👍👍
Funny how the z06 out performed both of them and and cost almost as much as the porche and less then the viper
Put a LS engine in the Viper and the Porche🤾♂️
Than we get a slightly slower Viper yet with better handling,
and a faster Porsche yet with worse handling.
Life is a balance of give and take. lol
with a 4l60e lol
LS engine would definitely outlast either of those engines for sure
@@PhillyDee215 Yup and LS would be more durable and easier/economical to repair, play with etc I agree.
You'll end up making the Porsche too heavy tho
once one of my least favorite vipers. Its defenitly grown on me and will probably be my next car.
The video looks a bit squished vertically.
This was a good vid on comparison! But they shld of had the 06 gt500! Not tht lil Porsche wit 300hp! 🤷🤦🥴
