Sadly as a woman who likes metal we do get treated a little unfairly by some people because of our interests. Sometimes I get embarrassed to bring up my music tastes around other women because they react similarly to this video. I don't need that kind of passive aggressive attitude in my life.

  • @Shagrath71

As an older, lifelong metalhead I would tell any younger people out there into this music don't give a flying F what other people think of it. Metal isn't for everybody. Some people -- maybe most people -- will never get it. Don't apologize. Don't try to explain why it's awesome. Just enjoy it and let others think or say what they will. There are always people that will pick at you because you listen to this type of music. Shrug it off. Like what you like and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. Your family and friends may ride you over it. Live with the slings and arrows and if need be find some people that like what you like. We're out here. Some people say metal is dead but the fact that there are still more metal bands out there than even the most diehard fan can know says otherwise.

Even IF it were “dead”, that’s just another opinion. No need to even prove whether it’s “dead” or not, just rock out to what u love. Arguing over whether it’s dead or not is really just another argument for whether it’s popular and it never will be. That’s one of the many perks of metal. It’s not some “fad” or bubblegum “cool” shit to flaunt for a few months. Those of us who love it, love it, and it doesn’t matter AT ALL whether it’s considered cool or whether it has more up and coming artists or sales or whatnot. It’s not going anywhere and neither are we 🤘🏻🖕🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻❤❤

I am not a big follower of slipknot I am a Dutch hardcord/gabber fan but I 100% appreciate how creative and how much they are an influence within the heavy metal scene. People disrespect these scenes and how people that are in to th heavy style of music but I have not met a better crowd in my life. I have seen bands like Oasis live and their fans are shocking throwing cups of piss over people just for a laugh. I have never seen that type of behaviour at any heavy metal gig at any rave before. So I dont get why there is such a bad name towards people that like heavy music. At the end of the day we all have a metronome in our minds that tunes in to the sound and speed we enjoy

That's what I find really confusing as, in my opinion, Cate is trying to portrait metal music as something that isn't 'real' art or 'serios' art.. making the monster truck comparison is almost like trying to make it sound cheap and simple, perhaps childish, like a quick and simple thrill. Obviously as we know metal music isn't any of this, there is lots of depth and complexity that is spun across its multi genres.. yet a respected and known artist is trying to make a very sweeping statement while her own opposed musical tastes, if are as charty as I think they are, would be very shallow and schematic... Where was she really going with this? Can one provide critique with zero insight?

I felt someone lift me up out of the pit and stood in front of me to protect me and a few other guys took care of the a-hole in the pit. I did get hurt at a Morrissey show. His fans are rude AF. This vid is just another example of a " if you don't have any education on the subject, perhaps ye should leave your cake-hole in closed position". Thank you, Margot for your defense of your musical genre of choice. many moons ago, Mozart was too METAL, in some music fans opinions, just as "that rock and roll that makes the white kids dance with the black kids" was too "Metal" for 1950's american parents. bottom line: if you don't like a certain music after listening to it, that is your opinion, your entitled to it but please (respectfully) SHA-DAP. Thanks for keeping your opinion to your self. If you've never heard the music, than your opinion has no basis. 'scuse me while I bang my head. uh....tthhhhank you.

Also, monster trucks is only a big thing in a small part of the US, right? Metal's big across many parts of the world particularly Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and all the bits of the states that don't watch monster trucks.
What is Blanchett even talking about?

I don't think Cate was trying to be disrespectful. She actually reminded me of my parents when I first got into metal. To people used to hearing softer, non distorted music, I can see how metal can come off initially as a wall of loud noise, much like a monster truck rally would. But hey, after hearing me listen to my music enough times, my mom grew to like it. She even liked some of it enough to buy her own metal albums. So who knows, maybe Kate is a metal fan in the making.

And what kind of music does Cate Blanchett like? Mostly classical, and also Bob Dylan apparently, I found a "music that shaped Cate Blanchard" playlist. So it's not surprising that she thinks metal is beneath her, or whatever. How out of touch must a person be to have lived through the 80s and not listened to metal music though? She was actually saying more about herself than Margot with her attitude about the subject. I guess she spent the entire 80s going to operas, that's how boring she is. Probably also thinks tennis is entertaining, she's just that type. And people who go to monster truck shows are not the same people who go to metal shows, they're country fans. That's how out of it Cate is.

But despite that, when people like that old woman try to be funny while mocking something else because it seems the majority are in on the joke, it comes off extremely pretentious and annoying. Makes the person sound so dumb and uneducated.

I swear, I'm tired of people hating on metal yet complete braindead people who listen and do what they're told. The media says Cardi B is the new thing and everyone jumps on board. How about pay some respect to musicians who are talented and in many cases way more musically trained than some of these so called artists.
Most pop is written by other people, produced by others and in some cases they don't even perform the songs live without lip syncing. It's so bad. But people pay 300+ for tickets to see Justin Dumbass over there. Omg, it's tiring. Oh side note, people who love Justin Bieber yet hate metal need to ask him to stop wearing vintage metal shirts then. That trend is so stupid. An old Nirvana t-shirt with holes. Look at them! So aesthetic! 😑
