I listened to Brian Stack being interviewed on the Inside Conan podcast, and got some more insight into this madness. This wasn't a bit that Late Night put together, the actual band Slipknot asked Brian, Andy, and Jon to open for them, and the crowd, who was there to see Slipknot, really did hate the Slipnutz antics. You can't really see it in the parts they aired, but according to Brian, they had to be escorted off the stage when the crowd started chucking bottles at them.
Yeah but it wasn't even like they were first on, Lamb of God had played first and the crowd were already warmed up. None of them realized what they had gotten themselves into. Imagine them following Lamb of God its a wonder it wasn't worse than it was. They were told before they went on that these heavy metal crowds throw batteries even at bands they like. They were genuinely shitting themselves.
That they did. When I seen Slipknot live, all we got for openers was Coheed & Cambria and Trivium. Good bands, but nowhere near Slipnutz level of rock godliness.
Love the Slipnutz! One of my fave recurring Conan bits ever. "A lot of people go their whole lives and never slip on a nut, and I feel sorry for them." 😂
I actually remember watching this from 14 years ago when it was late at night and I was holding my baby and trying to get him back to sleep ....but I couldn’t stop laughing at the Slipnutz 😂🥜
I saw this too back in the day and I was a sophomore in high school at the time and I remember laughing at this whole thing, but the reaction of the crowd made me laugh the hardest at this whole thing lol
This is the type of comedy that is written really really really late at night (early in the morning) after a looong day at work and everyone just wants to go home .
My dad was one of the few that actually went to the concert at the arena just to see SlipNutz open. He bought some merch before the show, including a poster and over the next, several years was able to track two of the members down and have them sign it. Sadly, he passed away before he got the third signature. I told him on his deathbed that I would make sure that I completed the journey and would get the third signature. Please wish me luck.
I think they got it just about perfectly. And they realized that the perfect capper, comedically speaking, was to boo like they'd never booed before. Well done, Slipknot fans!
Perhaps the greatest thing about network television comedy is that they have the budget to troll an entire arena full of Slipknot fans. Also, I would love to be at a Slipknot show and see these guys "open." Slipknot and absurd comedy? That's what I'm here for!
@@SpicyricecrackerProd I know man. After that drunken performance at Nutfest I don't know how they are still going. Andy's heroine habit is out of control.

I think Slipknot went in on this gag because they were grateful for Conan being the first mainstream talk show host to promote them. I remember the first time they played his show and they performed The Heretic Anthem. He had to have gotten a lot of credit with the band for that.
Conan always had bands on his show that were far outside of the mainstream. Gave Linkin park, SOAD, Slipknot, and more a spot on Late Nite. Conan is a legend
