I lived in Guatemala for two years. I love the country and people. You are absolutely right about the three negatives. 100%. I subscribed! Thanks for the video. You're great!
My idea was go to Morocco next yea r to my vacations. But I fell in love with Guatemala when I saw your first photo from there. Pretty excited to go to Guatemala in 2024!
Hi, I was looking for a video about the reality from Guatemala. It's true you are saying. I'm a local here and always I go to a park or just trying to hike a mountain everywhere we have garbage. I always try to collect them into a bag and throw it into the trash can. And additional to that business people are destroying forest, rivers and go on doing it. I am feeling overwhelm to be honest with you , you know is my country and I'd like just make conscience with this people and resolve this issue. Weather here is more hot than other years. I think this is the main problem after all. However I really enjoyed your video, you have a new sub. 🎉❤
Am from Guatemala and am going there on Christmas! I haven’t been there ever since I moved to the USA now I know English and many more but I still want to visit my family so after like 11 years am going there🎉
Please do come and visit, you will love it, it is not the way she makes it seem like, I bet I can go to her city and make a video about the 100 things I didn’t like, easy.
Amazing as always, I truly value your perspective and storytelling, your content is engaging, interesting and educational, I look forward to your videos!!
The sunrise in Tikal totally worth it! Tourist pay more for tourist attraction because they can. Yes, you do have more money then 80% of the people in the country. Tourism help maintaining parks and ruins. So it is with appreciation that I pay the tourist price. But I agree, people in trying to survive and get a basic living, they can abuse and ask a higher price for buses or products. Always ask a local for the correct price but be aware you will probably pay a bit more. The economic situation in the country is terrible. I have been living in Guatemala for 20 years and there is a lot of things I still don’t understand. I am always amaze how youtubers can share their opinion so easily.
You are beyond cute to watch talk in your videos! 🤗☺️🫠And I love the way you share your perspective. I’m glad I found your channel. Very informative from a different angle than other channels.

Tax payers subsidize and locals support the country (security. Infrastructure) unlessVisitors spend good money there, locals get to keep your trash, sewage and later your trash talk on videos. At a net loss. Visitors should pay more.
Having lived in Guatemala for 2 years, I do agree with the 3 negative ones. I remember walking once down the road and there was a sign that said don’t throw trash “no tire busura” and there was a massive pile of trash. I also asked locals what they paid on the buses and only gave that much exactly because they try to over charge. I told a local family how much the taxi wanted me to pay and they laughed and asked if they offered a ride in a helicopter lol, I loved it and would love to go back. I was there in 1999-2001 so been a while
Excellent tips in this video. Most videos I've been watching so far seem to draw on very short touristy experiences in Guatemala rather than a two-month experience like you have.
You inspire me 🌱💚🧚 and your videos deliver joy, love and hope! Thanks for sharing your experiences, for educating, for living so freely, for loving so deeply :)

It drives me mad as well. I’ve been following the news about ocean cleanup (mostly The Great Pacific Garbage Patch) and every time I use plastic I imagine it ending up in the ocean 😢 where else can it go? Especially in the counties where they don’t have recycling at all 😢
Yes, I carry a plastic bag when I'm out walking & try to collect as much as I can, but folk just throw it out of their cars! That really winds me up 🤬@@dianawanderlust
I'm looking into moving to Guatemala. Thanks for your take on life there, Diana. According to a 2017 study, across the globe, one million plastic bottles were sold every minute. Of those, only a small percentage were effectively recycled. It's worse now. Of course there are billions of other plastic products being tossed into the environment too. Microplastics, forever chemicals, radioactive waste, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, air pollution, etc. have created a toxic stew. And we wonder why more and more, especially young folks, are dying of cancer.
Please don’t generalize some peoples’ behaviors to represent those of everyone in the country, it’s EXTREMELY insulting. Having been in Antigua I’m sure you noticed some of your generalizations don’t apply. Videos and comments like these unfortunately misrepresent all of Guatemala….especially for people who are not familiar with our culture, who have not traveled there, or who have only been to one or two areas in this country. It’s one thing to say, “I noticed there was a lot of trash in “X” area(s), etc…”….it’s very unfortunate to hear and see videos as these which those who have not traveled there will take to be factual of the entire country.
One positive is the FANTASTIC food in Antigua. Such a high concentration of great places to eat. One other negative is the stray dogs and dog poop you have to look out for.

I'm writing as a stranger who has lived in Guatemala for six years. My aim is not to criticize what you share, which is, I know, designed for travelers who want tips and opinions about a trip to Guatemala. But I have a few comments about some of your descriptions. - It might sometimes be difficult to find buses when you're not a local and don't know well your way around. But cheap buses exist and they allow you to go almost anywhere but, as you said, this means lots of connections and long travel times. And, at night (usually after 6, 7 pm), those cheap local buses don't circulate. - It is wrong to say that bus companies don't exist: lots of safe Pullman bus companies (Litegua, Fuente del Norte, Xelabus, Monja Blanca...) allow you to travel from the capital to lots of places in the country. - Saying that "sometimes" ladinos and Mayas "don't get along well" is a big understatement. Guatemala is a country characterized by systematic racism and "classism" (= discrimination against the poor). Although Guatemala evolved into an apparent liberal democracy, de facto, the colonial structures of the 16th century still exist. In a nutshell, Guatemala is a big finca where the elites, that sometimes are direct descendants of 16th century Spanish settlers, are those who really decide and who consciously always kept the Mayas from development, education and, of course, power. - Although not all the Mayas are poor, 75% of them are, and, on top of that, 58% of them are touched by chronic undernutrition (2020 numbers). Believe me, the situation's not improving. Therefore, I feel like talking about the Mayas who want to keep their traditions is partly true - and those traditions must stay alive - but it is also a a consequence of this poverty and of the systematic racism of the Guatemalan elites. So, Guatemala is a fantastic country, but for most of its people, life is incredibly harsh and often lets little hope of improving their personal situation.

Make friends along the way and ask questions to compare and learn. Over all a good video
Hey I'm in Guatemala now and I'm here since a month. I've not seen any plastic or garbage on the streets. @@nematk6359 it was positive wonderful and life changing. I stayed at the selina antigua about 20 days. Then i stayed at la casa rosa in livingston 10 days. In livingston my gf and i (im a black american lesbian and so was she) got our locs done by the local garifuna. I was in guatemala the entire month of oct 2022. Now, I plan to move to antigua feb 2025. I think about it every single day of my life. I lost a lot of weight, my skin cleared and my hair grew.
@@nematk6359 i previously taught english in Costa Rica i've also been to Mexico and El Savador but Guate is my favorite.
