    Today, Feb 4 2023 marks 40 years since this glorious Angel left our World.
    Still feeling sad 😥 whenever I hear her.

    How could you ever NOT love Karen Carpenter..?

    I had the honor of seeing them perform this live in Chicago.

    • @jediprice70
      @jediprice70 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      What's their performance like? I could listen to her voice all day long, and their harmonizing, and beautiful, pure sounds...but performance is something different than those things. If you don't mind talking about it or have the time... :)

    • @mac2920
      @mac2920 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      They were as good or better live-Karen Carpenter had one of the best female voices ever and Richard was the genius who blended the harmonies together-gosh that was so long ago-I was 19 when I saw them but when you saw them you never forgot it.

    • @jediprice70
      @jediprice70 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes but I was wondering more about the performance. I can hear the voices and harmonies now from shows, videos and music recording from CDs and such. I wanted to know what the live show was like, whether she was drumming, whether there was dancing, or talking with the audience... you know what I mean I think now, like what was the "show" like :)
      Oh and yes I think Karen's voice is one of the best voices for most females ever :)

    To date, there is no one, and I mean NO ONE, who can sing and effortlessly and precisely nail a note like this woman! If watching and hearing this great live rendition does not bring a tear in your eye and pull your heartstrings clear up your tonsils, you are clearly not human.
    And as for Richard. He's a musical genius!

      Anorexia, like alcoholism and many other addictions, is a dreadful disease - so excruciatingly frustrating because a loved one may be right there and yet not be able to get through ... I sincerely hope that more is known about eating disorders and how to treat them now ...

    • @eduardaschneidertz

      You shouldn't blame her for the anorexia! In her time, anorexia wasn't well recognized and they didn't know how to treat it, unfortunately. Many things led her to have this awful disease and even today with treatment we see people dying from it, imagine in those days. I think you should learn more - or don't even say anything, if you're going to be disrespectful.

    Look up Karen Carpenter-'Rainbow Connection'.......According to Richard, she recorded the vocal track, accompanied only by the toy piano you hear at the beginning. The orchestration would be worked out later. She was just sort of doing a 'sample'. Richard said she didn't like how she sounded, and the idea was 'shelved'. After her death, he went back & finished it. It sounds fantastic. I got to see them in South Lake Tahoe near the end of her life. GREAT concert. Wish I could remember more.

    @djtutone Tell you a little Karen secret. She had a way on a bad day (If she really had one of those) of knowing how to push the words out & carry it well. Karen just happened to have a nice voice & also a nice singing voice. If she was practicing on the end of the couch though, you could barley here her, it was soft. The song Solitare is a great example of how Karen could change her register in the middle of the sentence-however her higher voice was coming more into play by this time.

    The most Beautiful & Angelic person I have ever seen. Voice of an Angel, Eyes of God- Karen Carpenter. The Carpenters contribution to music is so apprieciated by millions of people, even today. This was the Best selling American group between 1970-80 The Carpenters band was second to none, Richard's hard work should be rewarded with a Life time achievement award, & The Hall of Fame needs to open their eyes & realize that this group should have been put in a long time ago.

Love the close-ups of Karen, Richard & the band. This is my favorite Carpenters look of the early '70's.

    She performed so beautifully! Hmm - Richard played the intro figure in the key of C and Karen came in, and was thereafter perfectly accompanied, in the key of G!!?? Either (1) He momentarily forgot the low alto key she sang the song in, and she had tremendous perfect pitch; or (2) He played the intro in the key they intended to use, she started in the wrong key, and Richard and the entire band instantly adjusted to the key she came in [rather unlikely]; or (3) The discrepancy was intentional, either to be playful, to test her, or just to show off her wonderful sense of pitch ... or maybe the audience could hear the intro better in that key while applauding and Karen was entering. Richard is still with us; maybe he remembers ...

    • @derrickhowlettDQ

      ***** Agreed! And far from the only example of Richard Carpenter's genius, musicianship, and knack for reaching so many listeners :-) More than a decade of fine songs - often hits - with Karen, and, if I'm not mistaken, decades of fine musical work since ...

      @@ThaisMCruz I don't hear it. I played the record again and it's the exact same key. I even played the chords on my little piano and there's no key change. It's all in the key of C. At worst, perhaps Richard played a wrong note, but even that is not clear. I don't get what you guys are talking about.

    I believe this was 1971. Before the Carpenters' appearance on the national scene, in her late teens (at 17?), I believe, Karen went on her first weight-loss diet (In 1967 she was 17). Richard Carpenter has stated he thinks she became anorexic in 1975. Contrary to popular belief, Karen did not die emaciated, but weighed 108 pounds.

    @ttonycox Yes, she DID have a good voice live, they just couln't do the harmonies the same without the overdubbing of just Richard and Karen's voices like on the recordings...and the vocal on this IS live (listen to the recording right after this and you'll hear the difference). The music is not live, the singing is!

    she died from being anorexic for so long, some poepl say she abused that stuff but karen was anorexic NOT bulemic, theres a difference. Anyways richard said she never would use that because of how damaging it is to ur vocals and i believe him...especially because of what i just said above

    So true. Unfortunately, the music industry today has changed - BIG TIME! Nowadays, buying an CD or even going to a concert is all about the artist and their image - not so much about the vocals which can these days, because with all the technology such as pitch correctors and such, even a weak vocalist can sound half decent. Back in the day, it music was more natural sounding and less commercial.
