    Even though I didn’t grow up in the Jason Era, he’s my favorite. Nobody will EVER touch Cliff, but Jason did what he needed to do and turned it up to 10000000000. Lived, breathed, and embodied metal from start to finish. He had the biggest shoes to fill, and I’d say he filled them all 14 years perfectly. I wish I was alive back then to witness his aggression :(

    • @DM-rc4yu
      @DM-rc4yu ปีที่แล้ว +7

      He was always 100% every show, wore Metallica shirts like a fan, was nicest to fans and never complained about being treated the way he was. James and Lars made a huge mistake, Metallica was never the same without Jason live.

    • @Shawn-mo6dh
      @Shawn-mo6dh ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jason was good but not even the second best bassist in Metallica. That would be rob Trujillo

    • @Shawn-mo6dh
      @Shawn-mo6dh ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DM-rc4yu very wrong. BTW Kirk razed Jason as well. Rob Trujillo is a MAJOR upgrade from Jason. Two reasons they turned down his bass in and justice for All. 1 it was a salute to Cliff Burton and two. He was... how do I say sucks politely......not Cliff. Rob Trujillo is the only bass player who can ever even come remotely close to Cliff Burton

    • @Scooby_Dum
      @Scooby_Dum ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Shawn-mo6dh ‘very wrong’ as if this is an objective topic lol. Jason brung a very unique attack to the bass which made live performances of songs much heavier; not to mention his incredibly impressive background vocals. There’s a reason Metallica were at their peak during this time. Studio side, obviously I agree that he’s neither Cliff or Robert, but he wasn’t turned down because of ability (FYI kind of wild that this needs to be said, but they wouldn’t have hired him if they didn’t think he was good enough). He was turned down in the mix for multiple reasons, all of which would have applied just the same to Robert if he had joined at the same age back in 86; right after Cliffs death.
      I would take Metallica with Jason over any other version, including with Cliff. They were untouchable live and even with Cliff out of the band they wrote And Justice, which if you listen to a version with higher bass in the mix, could easily be argued their best record.

    • @Shawn-mo6dh
      @Shawn-mo6dh ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Scooby_Dum you talk a lot for thinking you are right 🤣 plus you didn't disagree so......why disagree 😆🤔😂 he was choose because Cliff Burton was sadly gone. They needed someone. He's not as good as Rob Trujillo and not in the same class as Cliff Burton. And yeah they turned down the bass on justice out of respect for Cliff but also because Jason as i said....was not Cliff BTW you acknowledged all of this and you think you disagree 🤔🤣😂😆

    Metallica's boxed set "Live s+++; Binge and purge" was a huge package released w/ 2 concerts on video (1989 in Seattle, and 1992 in San Diego) and 1 concert on CD (Mexico City in 1993) ... It was re-released w/ the 2 concert videos remastered for DVD + the CD's. It captured Metallica at the peak of their powers on tour for the 1991 'black' album and the 1988 album 'And justice for all'.
    Before that, Metallica compiled live footage from their early years to pay tribute to their late bassist Cliff Burton... it was the "Cliff 'em all" video and it had some of their best performances ( despite the low quality)... Metallica recently remastered and released some of those early shows. Check 'em out on TH-cam... including one in early 1983 w/ Dave Mustaine on lead guitar... and a 1986 Toronto concert which was one of Jason Newsted's earliest performances on bass for Metallica.
    They also have a Woodstock '94 set filmed...
    Now, Metallica after 1996 was becoming a different band... Their 'Load' (and 'Reload') album was not the heaviest, and they cut off their hair... They filmed a 1997 concert in Texas and released it as the 'Cunning stunts' concert video... It was not quite as remarkable and the setlist had some of their newer songs that were not really 'metal'...
    If u compare Metallica from 1989 w/ the band that is performing live today... they are definitely missing some of the intensity, ferocity and volume that they used to have... Having seen Metallica twice (2000 and 2003) myself, I can honestly say I was underwhelmed 🤔
    I say this because having seen Slayer in concert over 7 times and Pantera once... I felt that those bands had not lost a step in the concert arena in terms of intensity and ferocity.

    The live version of this song is superior to the album for several reasons: more bass guitar, reverb on the lead guitar (and, indeed better lead guitar tone in general), better vocal performance, plus harmonising vocals from Jason. All these things combine to make this a deadly performance.
    When I was 18, my wife gifted me the Metallica ‘Live Shit’ video box. She didn’t know what she’d done. After we eventually divorced, I put the ‘1989 Seattle’ VHS tape on repeat, connected the audio to my guitar;s amplifier’s clean channel, and blasted it at Earth-shattering volumes whilst drinking cheap vodka from the moment I woke till the moment I passed out.

    Very iconic breakdown here i agree, also with this song live outdoor Metallica always bring a spetacular lightshow.. and it was a highlight for me, when i watched them life in Copenhagen, in the national stadium.. that was right after the release of Hardwired to selfdestruct album, so other moments ti highlight from this concert would be For whom the bell tools, Mout into flames, and of cause Seek and destroy..

    I was at this concert when they were in a different state. It looked the same. The thing that surprises me is the production of the shows and videos and how good it was back then (80s and 90s) compared to now. Now, well I will be kind and say they do things different today I guess and everything is overdone. If you want to hear some progressive "mad" as they called it guitar work listen to some Seremedy. They will surprise you.

    Very few bands could top Metallica live when they were in their prime. They are in their late 50's now. They've lost a step or 2 and they have to down tune to keep James in key, but they can still go pretty hard when they get riled up. James and Kirk are one of the top twin guitar attacks of all time - especially from KEA through the Load albums. Super creative and heavy shit (well, the Load albums were a bit different, lol).

    Want to hear(for the first time) a sh!ty version of a great song with a bunch of crowd noise and a singer with a tired voice from doing 2 or more shows a weak without the thrill of actually being there? Then do a live version. 🙄
    Do an album version first, then a live if you want to hear what it sounds like in concert. I didn't even bother with your reaction to Van Halen- Eruption. He's great! But when you hear the album version first then you know the basic structure and can hear the ad libs he's doing live. I enjoy your reactions and your voice. Keep it up! 🙂 It's your channel, but I'll be skipping (almost) every reaction to a live version of a song. New sub.
