This was the song that got me into Metallica. The first song my dad ever played for me. The word masterpiece is thrown around too often but this song is a masterpiece
One of THE most epic songs ever. When you said "Ive never heard anything like it" , very true. When i heard it upon release I had a very similar reaction and it has never faded.
That was my oldest bros era.i learned everything heavy from him in those early early days of discovering heavy music.i was already listening to this in 1990 at 6 years old.good times
@@RODRIEUROMANIAKO I went through three cassettes of "...And Justice For All" I played it so much. The title track is pretty epic too and still very relevant today (from what I hear and read, even more so in the UK).
In my opinion this is the best Metallica song ever written. So impactful and perfectly captures all of the layers and capabilities Metallica is made of. You’ve never heard anything like it because there really isn’t anything like it.
They didn't release a music video until their 4th album, and this was in the hey day of MTV, they got very little to no radioplay, and became a huge band mostly by playing shows and word of mouth, and people trading bootleg recordings of shows.
The unholy hell that this man is living thru is beyond imagining for anyone.. the mind resists contemplating such horror.. The music and lyrics absolutely KILL What a masterpiece
"Johhny Got His Gun". Written by Dalton Trumbo and turned into a movie in '71. This is what "One" is based on. Like "All Quiet on the Western Front" a very powerful anti-war novel. Greatest Metal song of all time.
at roughly the 5:30 mark in the song.....the guitar is actually playing out in morse code which translates to -.- .. .-.. .-.. / -- .which means kill me
I am not the bigest metallica fan but this song is one of the greatest songs ever written imo. First heard it on release back in the day and have never tired of it. Every time that intro kicks in the hair on my arms and neck stand to attention, every single time.
The movie is "Johnny Got His Gun". It's a tragic story. The soldier got hit by an artillery shell. He lost both arms, both legs, his eyes, his hearing and his lower jaw and tongue. He was blind, deaf, mute and completely immobile. He was alone in his own mind. Trapped in a non functional body. A universe of "one". The doctors thought he was brain dead so they kept him alive for experiments. They were horrified to find out he was conscious and in pain so they hid him away from the world. By the way, yes, the drums emulate morse code. Dot dot dot dash dash dash dot dot dot. SOS (help).
Remarkable band. You should pull up lyrics when listening the first time. James Hetfield, the lead singer is a really good writer as well. Next up… Master of Puppets. An anti-drug song. Or Creeping death. Which he wrote after watching the movie, The Ten Commandments.
The movie is called Johnny Got His Gun, It’s also a book. I suggest reading the book before seeing the movie, because there are parts of the movie that are very off the wall and without reading the book you will kind of be lost on what is going on, the book explains it so clearly.
I’ll never forgive Lars and James for nerfing Jason’s bass on this album but this is the song that got me hooked to Metallica. This song is a timeless classic
If you want your Channel to Blow up go down this Metallica Rabbit Hole we are the most loyal fans there Are First show was on the justice tour only seen them 11 times need more 🤘🇺🇲🇺🇲🤘
So this is about a old movie called Johnny got his Gun.. a boy decides to join the army and in battle he steps on a landmine that leaves him Deaf, Blind and Mute he also has no arms and no legs.. He doesn't know if he is awake or asleep because in his condition it's nothing but darkness and silence.. If you go back to the live and a couple other videos I actually left messages trying to give you the heads up.. but I know it's impossible to see all comments.. I didn't really know how else to try to tell you.. your reactions were great.. but much like most reactions it's so much to take in at once.. your stuck between enjoying the music or figuring out the movie.. that's why I was trying to tell you ahead of times.. unfortunately I didn't think of the heads up till after I had placed the request.. not your fault..its just my ignorance of how this stuff works.. hence the name problem.. 😂😂😂 glad you enjoyed it anyway.. and sadly I'm not sure about the Morse code question.. that would be interesting to find out but I don't know if it was or not.. but that is a great question and if it is.. well then yeah that would be a hell of a catch.. Well done guys hope you enjoyed it. Take care and God Bless
It may be worth while to on your own give it another watch as you'll probably catch a few more things. Like the general tells the doctors that this man is not a product of his profession it's something the doctor has done.. for the general does understand there is a dignity in death vs being left in that kind of condition.. of course life is precious but in this case I can understand that living in that condition may be worse than death.. if he had sight or hearing or could speak maybe one could adapt even with no arms or legs.. but with all your senses gone.. are you really ALIVE?
If I had thought of it when I placed the request it would have worked.. I have seen many reactions to this one and it's always they either get caught up in the music and miss everything on the video.. or they just are kinda confused throughout and miss the music part.. You guys did better than most.. but im sure in the rewatch it will actually be better. You guys are great.. keep up the great reactions. Curious if you are familiar with Bob Dylan.. a little slower pace than most of what you all react to.. but I think there are some that's lyrics you'll enjoy too.
morse used a electrical signal that produced a monotone sound for humans to hear and understand. done by breaking the tone up into short blips and longer blips called dots and dashes. repeating dot dot dot dash dash dash dot dot dot is S.O.S. but very clever when you mentioned this during the song. you can fit it into the cadence but sos is done quickly.
Great reaction I see you do all types of music, there's a independent artist named Tom McDonald,no label, makes own beats, his girlfriend shoots all videos # 1 billboard plagues, about everyone of his New videos gets a million views in a day, plus he has a 36 video with the permission for the copyrights for you to post his music in your videos, good luck

Imagine hearing this in 1988 when it was released!! I was in high school and it was mind blowing!!
Honestly can’t imagine it! We don’t even know what the 80’s were like since we were born in late 90’s 😂

If I recall correctly, this was their first music video. They were already a huge band with not much mainstream adoption. Kinda like our Sick Boi :-)

Greatest American album. Definitely the most relevant American album and I won't argue that one.
Creeping death live Moscow '91
This song is a staple in their concerts. Nowadays it tends to be played towards the end. I've heard it so many times, but it's still amazing.

Iv played for 25 yrs including this song a million times and I never picked that up. Nice 😮
I mean, this song is important. It's on my top 10 but who cares. This matters. Every being needs to watch this

Your question about Morse code was genius. I've been listening to that song for 35 years and never wondered that. Now I kinda do.
The movie is "Johnny Got His Gun". It's a tragic story. The soldier got hit by an artillery shell. He lost both arms, both legs, his eyes, his hearing and his lower jaw and tongue. This song was so awesome to experience in the crowd during their live show
SOS in morse is 3 short, 3 long, 3 short. It is a really recognizable pattern to someone that is familiar with morse, especially during the war.
So happy beeing a part of this when I grew up! Metallca 7 years of great music with both Dave and Cliff!!! This song is Epic

Me too, then I got to enjoy their older stuff too.
Fade to Black, Master of Puppets, Sanitarium, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Creeping Death
Basically the first 4 albums are some of the best rock/metal albums ever made
Fade to Black may be the best thing ever composed. You must give it a listen even if your not into heavy music.
this is one of many songs inspired by movies James Hetfield watched, with band mates
