    Been eyeing this beauty from Landsknecht Emporium for a while now. It's shorter than the Günther sparring blunt that I have but looks to be more agile. Overall top quality from Landsknecht as usual!

    Unrelated, but the mic quality is incredible for the beautiful filming location. Usually with coasts there's too much wind or noise from waves, so it must've been a beautiful day when this was recorded

    I like the way you handle this messer, especially not striking edge on edge when you practiced parrying, really shows you're know what your doing with blades, Great content as always Skallagrim 👍⚔

      There was at least one medieval treatise that said to block another edge with the edge. Today though, it probably helps the blade's longevity to avoid it

      @@MegaKnight2012 At least one other did and he pointed out that the common cross-guard is pretty much worthless if you parry with the flat, meaning parrying with the edge was almost certainly standard practice.

    the blade is a simple and utilitarian design which I can imagine will be suitable for various different types of hilts

      Historically those blades were imported in bulk from blade factories and then fitted with Messer or Falchion handles depending on the target customers .

    Wow that's a really great price! The price jumps quite a bit to ~$700 with the sheath, but that's still a very reasonable price for what looks to be an amazing blade.

    Nice! I recently received a Messer from a Krieger Historical that I quite like. These handy little blades are quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

    I like the parry and mail coif flat bade strikes to test the assembly and fit. Those vibrations really give put the blade though it's paces.

    wow .. amazing. That maneuver in 1:50 is same as the back-cut in 1830's Bowie Knife fencing. Great skills you have developed. Great video

    I have a Landschnekt Emporium langes messer, absolutely love it. The finish is a bit rough, but I think that adds to the workmanlike feel of it. Can definitely recommend!

    I still love the Gustav I've reviewed, but Adorian seems to be a lighter and nimbler variant of langesmesser. Interesting cross section of a V wedge without any fuller or hollow ground geometry. Love its performance! Thanks for the showcase and review, Skall!! BTW, incredible backdrop, as always!

      I recently rough finished one based on the gustav and the one done by Tod. I wanted to practice making the crossguard, the nagel and the whole assembly. I didnt care about the blade. I used an old machete for it, as seen here on yt by TRCustomknives. Its obviously not a real messer, but boy does it feel snappy!
      It is a bit too flexible though, so you have to take extra care when cutting, but man, such a cool sword design. Cant wait to make the real thing :D

    That difficult to cut through "cardboard" might have been pressboard, which is basically super dense cardboard that can act as a substitute for wood.

    I'm Native American and our word for white people translates into 'long knife', I'm pretty sure we were talking about their swords. The translation for Asians would probably get us canceld today but it roughly translates into, 'eyes stretched like a bow'.

    Legit, only thing i could even nitpick about it is that i wish the scales were a slightly darker finish to better match the sheath, but that doesn't detract from it at all. I'd love to own that absolute beauty!

    Got question can parrying hooks from zweihander can they be applied to other swords from longsword to curved swords like Messers French saber and Katana.

    This is my preferred historical interpretation - take the historically similar items (swords or anything else), distill out what you think are the best parts of it, and then make that.
    Far too many people think history works linearly, so that each item is an iteration on the last - but that’s not how things work. Instead you get a wide variety of people creating things they think will work, either because it’s the same as they saw in the past or because they think their design will work better for some specific use, or because they think they can make something cheaper than the alternative that will be just as successful.
