For those that don’t know, this story arc was supposed to last more than three episodes but the writers strike in 88 caused them to shorten it.
A shame because the Sonny Burnett arc could have run for a whole season

I read a long time ago that the story line was supposed to run for the first half (11-13 episodes) of Season 5. Sonny’s recovery and the aftermath was supposed to be the second half of Season 5. Michael Mann had done a multi episode arc in both seasons of “Crime Story”. In Season 1 of that show, the Las Vegas storyline took the second half of the season. In Season 2, the aftermath of the H-bomb test and Ray Lucas’s recovery made up the first half of that season, and his attorney’s flip and becoming a special U.S Attorney made up the latter half. The strike upended all of those plans and the scripts that were written didn’t help with the ratings during the November sweeps period of 1988.

Sonny "Burnett" was Sonny turned up to the max. The cliffhanger was intense. MV was as cool as cop shows ever got.
Would’ve been DARK, but an infinitely more realistic and interesting tale, to let him remain Burnett, and have his friends and former coworkers attempting to bring him down for a season or two. Considering how they glossed his crimes and murders, just go all the way down that road.
would have been hard to catch , esp if glimpses of his police life came back to him every now & then..that would have been a great path to take

And after Tubbs and Crockett left Miami Vice, Crockett's 3rd alter ego, Nash Bridges came out and he moved to San Francisco to eventually lead the SIU

The amnesia thing with Crockett happens because the murder of Caitlin, causes him to have a psychotic episode, then he thinks he's actually Burnett. He's a totally stone cold villain, the opposite of Crockett's hot blooded temperament.
Actually, it was the head injury he suffered when the boat exploded that started him on the downward spiral into thinking he really was Sonny Burnett
he never got over losing Caitlyn.
@@stingerfan30 Caitlin and his unborn child at the same time, you can clearly notice how he his cold-blooded with Hackman, that's when Burnett actually really manifests in his mind, the boat explosion "simply" damaged his Crockett part and the only thing left for his brain was to force the Burnett part of him at least i guess so, like all brains we will never understand why stuff happens but we can clearly say that if weren't for his whole career in the police department an explosion wouldn't have caused a switch of personality

Hey Miami Vice team, is it possible to post this scene? one of my favorites, which I've listened to at least 100 times, which is very punchy with intense action, very well done editing, and a musical score by Tim Truman Pink Floyd style with his gripping and intense electric guitar. (This is in the episode "Victims of Circumstance", season 5), the very last scene before the beginning intro; Sonny and Ricardo in Ricardo's blue convertible car, on surveillance in front of the restaurant, including the shooting in the restaurant?.... Richard Dean Anderson was considered for the part of Sonny Crockett.

How the hell did sonny survive being blown up on a boat in the middle of the ocean?
His plot armor was maxed at 100 until the fourth season.
Just watched it he realized somethign was going down and he actually dove off the boat before it exploded, but he was close enough to tbe blast for it to knock him out,.
But also plot armor.

Honestly the actor is way better at playing the villain, than he is the hero, I wish we saw more of him being the actual bad guy.

As the good guy? The Don Johnson is not very believable, kinda awkward to watch. It's like the bad guy pretending to be the good guy to get something before going back to being the bad guy.

Loved the whole Sonny Burnett-amnesiac thingy in Season 4, but the story kind of weakened in the second episode of season 5.
Don Johnson did it well but the musical switch from Jan Hammer to Tim Truman weakened the atmospheric quality considerably. The visual reduction in season five's film quality didn't help either.

Exccept for this arc seasons 4 and 5 were pretty much garbage. I was really disappointed they didn't extend this. Really brought great energy back into the show,. Great compilation!
Fantastic good stuff! One of the coolest actor's of all time with the likes of James Dean and Paul Newman Don Johnson at his best.

This was an interesting experiment the show took in creating a 4 part story arc and the first season to feature a cliffhanger with Season 4's Mirror Image. Although the B-U-R-N-E-T-T saga started in Mirror Image it actually started with Deliver us from Evil which started Crockett's descent. It's a shame they didn't capitalize on this storyline in Season 5, as there is a whole period in which Sonny goes from working the Gutierrez to the Guerra's. This would have extended the storyline in Season 5, and could have peppered it with Individual standalone stories with the Vice squad in between. It would have provided the show with a better edge to either continue or close the show out on a bang. As it is the show's filmmakers, who replaced some of the previous BTS talent rushed the storylines due to the show being cancelled by the network. It's huge opportunity to provide MV with its best season totally squandered.
The seeds of the BURNETT arc started with season 3's FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS

@@cbod14 It was a fantastic arc and really turned around a disastrous season 4. Antiheroes like Walter White in Breaking Bad weren't really a thing then and I bet NBC wasn't comfortable with a "bad guy" being the focus of the show. Anyway wow Julia Roberts!

I didn't particularly care for the Burnett story arc. Considering the kind of life Sonny has to lead due to his job as an undercover vice cop, which already makes him a shady character, but deep down he's a good guy. To make a long story short, I didn't like seeing Sonny as a villain.
It really showed his range as an actor. It was amazing how he could make those beautiful green eyes look so dark and cold

It is a tad far fetched but I was relieved the show spent time at least trying to reconcile it. It doesnt even try to reconcile the fact he shot a man in cold blood BEFORE he got his amnesia.

Like when the cocking of a .38 remenberence scene, with memory loss such as what Sonny had, he wouldn't have that recollection unless that was the moment when his memory returned.....
