    Internally at Tesla, they have lots of stats/charts measuring progress in FSD (disengagements etc). They had a line that needed to be crossed where they would be comfortable letting any Tom, Dick or Harry use FSD. We have now crossed that line!

      If iirc the biggest hurdle in EU is regulatory issues, which are being addressed currently but at a laggard pace.
      Certain EU specific restrictions pretty much hobble even basic Autopilot capability.
      Hopefully they fix that soon so Tesla can bring FSD to EU like it did for US and China.

    I’m pro FSD, but I don’t think the take rate will be high. Until there are areas where I do not have to supervise the FSD at all.
    My current mental load is I assess the road, I plan my actions, I execute my actions.
    With supervised FSD, my mental workload is assess the road, assess what the FSD will do, assess what I will do if it deviates, monitor FSD, and finally decide to intervene or not.
    All of this is cool For us tech kind of people but unless you’re really into computers and future stuff it’s just more workload.

    Thank you for the video and all the information. For the most part I really like 12.3 but the speed is really strange. I first set it to auto and didn't like that's why I turned it off. I have it set for three over but it never even reaches the posted speed. If I'm on a 50 mile per hour road it's set for 53 but the car only goes to 46 or 47 and I have to press the accelerator to get it up to 53 but after about a mile it goes back down to 50 or below. It's frustrating that it won't do the three over any more.

    Tesla needs to offer a bundle deal, to give a discount on insurance to those who choose to keep their FSD after the free trial. The synergy should increase the take rate.

    • @malax4013

Again I am all in Tesla I'm just concerned about this

      Yes! I just had a safety critical interventions in FSD going to the store. I want this technology to work as much as everyone, but I'm a tad worried about trying to push this on everyone. Most people that are watching FSD videos and Tesla videos are technology people. most people that own Teslas are normal people and they are going to just expect it to work and it doesn't. Scared this move could backfire on Tesla.

    Thank you for your channel. I watch it almost everyday and find it both technically informative and willing to explain things in a way that layman can understand. I also like the variety of topics from Robots, SpaceX, Tesla and the worlds these topics touch.
    As a California 12.3.1 driver (since Sunday 3/24): It is very good, but there are 3 categories of driving that need to be addressed. I don't disagree with the need to get this code out to the general public as fast as possible. Given how good 12.3.x is, Tesla has made phenomenal progress and I can see the attention they've paid to pedestrian and obstacle safety. It is almost flawless. Hopefully my 3 issues are taken to be constructive. These issues are not dire safety issues (except perhaps #2), but they are enough of an issue that they will be noticed very quickly by any driver using 12.3.x for the 1st time and it may be hard to reverse any negative feelings that they cause:
    I am running 12.3.1 in a Model S with HW 4. It is in 'Average' Profile and 'Automatic Set Speed Offset' is set to ON.
    1. roadside & driveway curbs - while 12.3.x is good 99% of the time, it doesn't take much driving to hit that 1% and a corresponding wheel rash hit. These happen on turns (mostly right turns), and it can be nerve racking especially coming out of parking lots onto roadways.
    2. speed control In different neighborhoods - I find 12.3.x is going faster than my comfort level in many street situations (2 lane roads 40-43MPH in a 35 zone; 4 lane roads 44-47MPH in a 40 zone; and highway 75MPH in a 65 zone). Also there seems to be little regard for rainy weather as it sets speeds similarly to those just mentioned without regard to road conditions..
    3. lane control - 12.3.x will waver in a fast weave as it approaches a traffic light with 2 lanes open as if it can't make up its mind which lane to stop in. I've had 2 situations where it stopped literally straddling the line between the two lanes. I find it doing the same weave at road speeds when there are no other cars around. It is a bit disconcerting but not dangerous.
    If you find these comments helpful, I don't mind someone reposting them if it will help get the word out. I do not have an X account.
    Thank you

    Do you think that the current hardware on the car (meaning the cameras, hw3 or 4) are sufficient to eventually deliver something like level 4 fsd? This is the key question for me since any additional cameras (or perhaps other sensor but I tend to think not) will mean either one of the following:
    1. Expensive retro fit for all cars with FSD purchased
    2. Expensive refund of FSD cost for all cars as above
    3. Fighting a legal battle against the inevitable class action if 1 and/or 2 do not happen.

    I'm curious if the high price of FSD was partially to limit the number of people getting it as it developed and if it will likely drop in price despite being much better. If they want almost everyone using it they would have to even if it's level 4 or 5. Most people paying $25,000 for the Model 2 agent going to be willing to pay almost 50% more for FSD.

    I got FSD 12.3 two days ago. The first time I tried to put it into cruise control, it went into FSD mode. The control for switching from one pull for cruise vs. two for FSD has been disabled. So I manually changed the mode from FSD to cruise. Now I cannot switch back to FSD as that function has also been disabled. Is neural net just a different programming tactic or is it more like replacing the FSD computer's operating system? Obviously they switched to this without doing any hardware change to the existing fleet. Does this mean neural net programming is just replacing the installed FSD program with a more advance neural net version? Consequently, does this mean any computer that functions with C++ (or whatever the 11 and earlier versions were coded with) are capable of operating as a neural net device enabling much more computing ability without hardware upgrading?? Was the original FSD computer designed to be a neural net device but just enabled with "old school" programming until neural net was better stabilized?

    "All US cars" would seem to imply that they're going to need to merge the 2023.x firmware branches (where FSD v12.3 currently lives) and the 2024.x branches (which is still on FSD v11.4.9) soon to do that. Looking on the TeslaFi website, all the 12.3 rollouts are currently constrained to the 2023.x branch and the previous firmware versions were all 2023.x as well.

    • @Big_Ben_from_La_Mesa
      @Big_Ben_from_La_Mesa หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not a HW4 thing-a greater percentage of HW4 cars are getting 12.3 than those on HW3. The problem is that all 12.3 updates are being done on software branch 2023.x, none on 2024.x; and if you're like me, you were updated to 2024.7 or .8 not long after purchase; so we won't get 12.3 until Tesla ports 12.3 to software branch 2024.x. Hopefully that won't take long, with this new announcement.

    How is this going to work? As far as I know you still have to drive up to 20 miles to calibrate the cameras before FSD will work. Is the dealer going to have to calibrate each car before delivery by driving it up to 20 miles? If not then the demo drive is going to be awfully long in order to get past the calibration and on to the demo.

    Fsd still keeps messing up for me 12.3.1 on multiple occasions went on wrong turn lanes, missed freeway exits but was rarely unsafe except for one instance here it stopped mid intersection as light turned yellow. Imagine a new customer seeing that. Might be a turnoff when it’s not ready yet. Hopefully they fix em soon

      Yeah similar gripe. It's smoother overall, but I have a route I drive everyday that 11.4.9 nails and 12.3 is choosing the wrong lane to to go straight consistently... and even worse it still tries to go straight!

      @Mark-kt5mh หลายเดือนก่อน

      The calibration process works by measuring and comparing the distance of compliant highway lane marking on each side of the vehicle. If you aren't driving on roads or highways with daylight visible, consistent and compliant markings on both sides, the calibration will take longer. You can get the process done in as little as 5 miles by driving in the middle lane of a three lane freeway during the day.

    I think it is a bit premature. They should have worked on it for a few more months seeing as they have said that progress should be much quicker than in the past seeing as they are no longer compute constrained. Based on the FSD 12 videos I have watched I think a few more months would have been beneficial prior to launching this 1 month free trial.

      HW3 cars are actively being upgraded to 12.3. According to TeslaFi, 22% of HW3 cars have been upgraded at this point, vs. 28% of HW4 cars. They're being installed at 3% to 4% a day, so it may take 2-3 weeks to get everyone upgraded.

    12k is still too much. I'm surprised at how high the takerate is for such a price. Some claim it's 14% in north america. I suppose it makes sense when buyers of Teslas are aspirational and might often have a lot of money. They might be used to paying 200k for a car so 12k ekstra just feeds their need on a Model X. But for mainstream it can only be way too much. I suspect it wont shift the takerate much.
