Q1: Can't you get more collectibles to make the counter take more time to reach 0?
A: Unfortunately the counter on the screen is purely visual. The memory value goes down from X to 0 in one frame once the cruise bubble is released.

What's your favorite xbox dashboard?
Would a damage boost work for horizontal momentum storage? Say you paused on the same frame you got hit by a fodder bot, could the knock back effect be stored to the next level? I’m obviously not an expert at this game, just throwing out an idea.
Has anyone put thought into storing the ice momentum from Sand Mountain? Flounder Hill has 1 sandman collectible at the start and has ice at the end. I'm not sure how ice works vs. oil in the game's code but I think it's worth a shot.
Could you do another cruise bubble to delay the counter from going to 0
Shift, wouldn't you be able to hypothetically store momentum from the exploding tikis and be able to use the damage boost to travel to squidward if you did a frame perfect warp to jelly fish fields?

The dev that made the initial spawn point in Jellyfish Fields must be laughing his ass off watching this like: "You thought you could outsmart me, but I outsmarted your outsmarting."
The game breaking speedrunning is what caused the game to explode in popularity and get the game a remake. Some devs actually like to see the exploits of their old creations
That one developer who somehow knew placing Spongebob slightly farther away from Squidward would immeasurably inconvenience an entire community of people who's sole purpose is to break and abuse your hard work:

Long shot idea, entering Jellyfish fields for the first time teleports you to squidward. Is there a way to get to the taxi pad or to warp to jellyfish fields before going to jellyfish fields the first time?
so if you get one item, go in the first time, and attempt to get Squidward's reward... 🤔
There are always these sorts of so close and yet so far problems in games, but like you said perhaps someone will find some means to do it.

I'm glad these types of videos are being made. Makes it so that I can keep up with the game despite not being able to keep up with twitch and the discord.
I know I don't have the speed running capabilities but.. why not get your GMS from Slaphand leaf from Kelp Forest? I've spent hours as a kid trying to not get pushed by that damn thing and its horizontal momentum slaps 👏🏻.

Absolutely amazing man! I hadn't even thought about a potential backwards JF until now. I'll have to load in and start experimenting with my ideas to see if I can't accidentally find a solution. We'll be cracking the fields before long, I know it!

Can you have storage of character dialogue states?
So Squid has his intro dialogue, then presumably a 2nd dialogue if you talk to him again before getting the jelly, then a 3rd dialogue for when you do have the jelly and he gives you a spatula.
So is there any way to store another characters 3rd dialogue state, warp to Jellyfish Fields, then talk to Squidward to trigger the Spatula? Never played the game so sorry if this is a stupid idea, just throwing it out there
Interesting development, and stellar video quality. My knowledge on BFBB's tech is next to zero, but I wonder what other types of horizontal movement can be stored when loading between different levels. Are there any enemies in the game that move the player as their being damaged? Perhaps that can be stored? I have no idea.

This video reminds me of an interaction I had back in like 2018. We were still doing the old-school Goo Lagoon SpongeGlide where you go to the second island and then have to glide back. I hypothesized that we could glide straight to the first island and save a bit of time, but everyone was like, "Oh, please. We know what we're doing. If that was real, we'd be doing it in runs." So I gave up.

but my thought process is that you'll automatically slide to squidward before it resets

If I’ve learned anything about BFBB Speedruns, it’s that there’s always a way.
This game is so funkin’ insane that someone will discover a glitch that stores horizontal movement with spongeball from some level.
Might not specifically be that method, but I have faith in our community.
Just give it time.

I was here when BFBB speedruns blew up a little a few years ago. Was here when he first got 59, and so on. I remember SHIFT sitting down and saying "how much more optimal can we get" and we thought that a sub 58 or 55 were the farthest it could go. Ya boi went under 50, is in the 40s and still going! The evolution of these runs is frickin mindblowin. -

I feel like maybe you could store the horizontal momentum through a bubble bowl, cruise boost, or even walking forward somehow, but I don’t have that kind of knowledge on the game. I’d start there though

Lol i was just rewatching the fist documentary vid when i saw the discord messge that a new vid dropped
So... here's a question. Couldn't you store the sudden burst forward from bubble bowling or maybe take the forward momentum from the sliding sections and possible transfer that to jellyfish fields? I doubt it'd be the answer but it's the first few things that come to mind when I think of awkward speedups

What if you can store a cruise boost between load zones?
What about trying it when you get hit by the robots laser to shoot you across the map. Pause and use that as a save state to launch into squidward?

what if you cruise boost on the first frame you enter, would it still store the value if you held cruise bubble but also give you the "default" cruise boost speed so you could slide while holding the stored value? seems like the most likely thing to work to me
because the cruise bubble can't stay out while you're moving, getting a CB would just force you out of the state unfortunately. you'd need to move while being in the targeting state, which is why oil storage was the prevailing theory (if it actually worked)

Now I've never played or run this game, but considering VMS is based on Sponge Ball, would it be reasonable to assume a GMS could be found a similar way? Do any obstacles exist which impart horizontal momentum upon spongebob while he is in the ball state?
there is a way do a horizontal momentum bowl using one of the moving blocks in shady shoals, however horizontal momentum resets on loads so the JFB theory is pretty much dead
Why don't you collect more collectables to slow the counter reset down?

How about a Bubble Bowl boost?
couldn't you try CCA with the bubble bowl instead of the cruise bubble? the small movement that gives you might be enough to make this possible. however the CCA trick would need to be done with the bowl
the reason cca works is because of the cruise bubble timer, the bubble bowl doesn't have an exploitable timer
What about storing damage taken to push yourself towards squidward?
What if you use a different way of gaining momentum with the spongebob, so instead of using the rising tikis to gain momentum how about using the exploding tikis to gain horizontal momentum and then proceed with the memory storage to squidward. Would that work?
