As for the game itself, I'm of the few who grew up with every version. I rented the Gamecube version first, then had a PS2 disc, and then when the PS2 disc stopped working I owned it on the xbox. Can I just say, seeing a female speedrunner being so influential is actually really inspiring to me, not something you see often that I wish was more common
Scooby-Doo night of 100 Frights now that brings back some old memories. I really hope that they add a nod to it in the remake of SpongeBob Battle for Bikini Bottom... I highly doubt it though.
Mystery Mayhem was better
@@MaxiemumKarnage a couple of the ghosts and monsters are creepy to.
I would rather have that XD
@@zxbryc Scooby-Doo night of 100 Refrights Confirmed..... JK.
battle for bikini bottom rehydrated, coel: What do you say? Wanna go ‘round again? Hazel: i do
23:08 ‘As the year came to a close Lab door skip had not been found.’ I think what the TAS community was trying to do is very comparable to how taxi glitch was found on rehydrated on day 1 of the game being released.
Bro, I fricken love this game with all my heart. I had played this when I was a little kid and loved it so much. Seeing this rehydrated I literally cant. I love it so much

So happy this is finally out. It's nice to finally know the roots of a game I never had the privilege of running in the beginning. This also helps my motivation to start runs back up when I get the time. I've never been more busy than the last month. ;-;
Thanks to the community for putting this amazing video together!
This game holds some of the my most subconscious nostalgia that I forgot about, but has always been there in the back of my memory. One of the few who had the gamecube copy
Damn man Coel’s an absolute legend, dude made waves for years and him & Hazel really carried this games community for so long. Nothing but respect to those two.
Like it how the ending of this video starts with a guy with "Your time is up, pinhead" pfp going up in times
~50:54 *I'D KNOW THAT THEME ANYWHERE! DIALGA'S FIGHT TO THE FINISH!*
PMD: Sky is a legendary game, after all.
Best part of the video
@@M4-Z3-R0 its soo good im gonna watch it again
Legit, when I heard this cover of the theme I immediately went into another tab to find the cover because it was too good to forget about.
I live the trope of the skilled runner who has no idea how to explain what he does
That ending with Coel got me a little emotional.
same
coel's cruise boost tutorial was just "so basically, youre gonna have to cruise boost."
Cruise Boosting, Fuck Yeah.
Omg this was awesome! Hazel is my favorite speedrunner now. I was rooting for her the whole time! I don't think I've ever heard of a girl being involved in the genesis of a speedrun, and even holding the world record, before now. You go girl!!!!
shut up
Thank you speed runners :) There was a time where i was going to go to the extra miles to play playstation 2 games specially since you need special courds for the new tv's to hook them up. But after seeing shift's videos because of one spongebob episode i was trying to remember i was like so hook on wanting to play this game again and then few weeks or months later a spongebob game has been announced. So basically that's how the story of me figuring out that this game was in development.
I played this game once when I was like 6 and thought it was okay... Thank you for putting me in my place. Genuinely cannot wait for part 2
me at the beginning of this video: look i love speedrunning histories as much as the next person but i'm not gunna sit down and watch a video on it for a whole ass hour
me at the end of the video: PART TWO PART TWO PART TWO PART TWO PART TWO PART TW
It blows my mind that I found a few of those time skips as a primary-schooler back in the days. I played so much and loved to find exploits in games and it makes me so nostalgic seeing that stuff. :D
getting trihex to voice over his own forum post from 14 years ago was really cool
This has to be one of the most detailed and well made documentary’s I have seen on TH-cam...as a 90s kid I grew up playing gamecube and remember playing this game so just watching this whole video made me feel like a kid again and made me pull out my GameCube to play some of my old favorites....this truest brought a smile to my face....nostalgia overload
"And then it ended."
me: *notices there are going to be 3 more parts* "Don't know about that one chief."
I'd love to thank all of you speedrunners for giving my favorite game, a chance to be remade.
I'm so glad and grateful that you tell us the story in such detail. It also motivates me to spend more time with the game. Big thanks and above all: respect!

"Battle for bikini bottom runs at 60 frames per second."
Me: *can't even get 30 on my computer*
MAE BOROWSKI!!
Those guys are people who actually care about their community
This game is a masterpiece and the sheer number of tricks you can learn form it is unreal. Takes real skill and patience for this shit. You speed runners are truly a different breed.
Wow this story wasn’t just exciting but full of hype now... all the speed run races and the potential of bfbb makes me wanna see part 2....
I watched a 1 hr video about a game i never plan on playing. That is how good you did at keeping the fans attention. Truly remarkable stuff not everyone can do what you did for a entire hr
>Part 1
>1 Hour 26 seconds
Who knew a Spongebob game would have this much history in Speedrunning for just Any%
I remember buying this game and playing it as a kid. I remember enjoying it, and I find it cool that it's got a speedrunning community
So much effort went into this and watching it being made on stream was a great experience too. Really looking forward to the upcoming parts and if anything it's hyping me up for the remake!!
i remember watching some of the editing on stream too! poor shift had to deal with photoshop PepeHands
The stories of speedrunning are amazing because no matter how many games you watch be speedran, they will all be different enough to be unique and exciting.
I absolutely love this. The subreddit, r/BFBBRehydrated is where the fun is at.
Mad props to everyone who made this documentary. This game will always be apart of my childhood.
This video makes me wish I found the community sooner
Got a bfbb rehydrated ad just before this video. Nice.
When averageTrey showed up I knew this was a good speed run history video
3 years ago Trey and I first talked about the possibility of this happening someday. So when the time came to writing that script, it would have been a crime not including him as a cameo. Guy's been a source of inspiration and a great friend.
👌🙏👍
Damn you got both of them to reply
@@jessemaniboujee I feel blessed 😇
Remember playing BFBB for the first time, thinking it’s just a awesome spongebob game, to see how it changed casual play and and the impact it had on casual players and the SR community. Amazing video, pumped to see part 2
This is so well made, love y'all for keeping this game alive. Hope all of this continues with Rehydrated.
It's so fascinating watching all these different people discover and explore every nook and cranny of this game. Definitely hyped for part 2
Got an add for Rehydrated as I clicked on this. Welcoming to say the least.
Cruise boosting presentation was so perfect!
Why is this video so good holy. Easily earned a sub, BFBB is one of my favorite childhood games and didn’t know it was coming back out, so hyped. This video also makes me want to learn how to speed run it.
Tomatoanus sent me down a rabbit hole I never could have imagined existed; incredibly competitive Spongebob speedruns.
I am writing this purely for algorithm. Thank you for this, I absolutely love the work
ty brother
The cruise boosting segment was beautiful and exactly what I had hoped for
Absolutely amazing, I can't wait for the next parts.
Guys this video is insanely good like really well made. This is the best video I have ever watched on youtube, and I honestly felt like I learned something and know i really wanna play that game. Thank you for making this masterpiece
really loved the animated graph at the very end (58:37) that made me feel sort of sad as the last generation is left behind but also excited to see where this story goes next. excellent video, can't wait to watch the rest! my little brother loved this game and I'm excited to try the remake next month!
*Skips Tales series on sales charts*
I cry.
Great video, and looking forward to the remaster.
I never knew a mere mortal could make 4 documentarys on battle for bikini bottom. I am dumbfounded.
As I am back watching this video from the 3rd time, it's so cool seeing how successful this video has become, I remember playing this game as a kid and in the last couple months getting into the speedrun community and it's so amazing to have this all coming full circle
Me: ''Why is a sponge bob videogame speedrun recomended to me?''
TH-cam: Trust me you wont be able to stop
Me 1 hour later: I WANT MOREEE!!!!
So excited for part 2, that ending bit where all those runners surpass Coel was hype
