If they really wanted it to be better with wide screens they would let you put the task bar on the side of the screen, freeing up valuable vertical space.

I'm still on windows 10, I love the metro design , if you're a normal user I don't think you need that abomination of an operating system like windows 11 , I just do programming and development on windows 10 , it's fine , it works , Microsoft is trying to slap that AI thing onto every customer and also increasing ewaste and also advertising how sustainable they are.

Well I mean, even if Microsoft themselves says Windows 11 isn't that different from Windows 10, doesn't that means that there is little incentive to upgrade?

    • @kand7dev

Getting out of your comfort zone is tough sometimes. Sure, a bunch of people are still rocking Windows 10 and highly enjoy it, but they will be forced to upgrade soon. No one likes that, adapting their workflow to something new, different or even counterintuitive for some, but they will have to eventually.
I agree with the points Microsoft stated and I can imagine how hard it is to maintain two different operating systems, even if they’re similar in most aspects.
No operating system is flawless. At launch, Windows 11 was unstable with many bugs. It was a bad idea releasing publicly and promoting such piece of software, but nowadays, it’s stable enough, and gets the job done.

    • @Idonteatshoes
      @Idonteatshoes 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Windows 10 had way more bugs during its first version so it is not fair to say that Windows 11 has unstable bugs if Windows 10 had some and it is healthy to try new things such as Windows 11

I don't know but whenever I think about Windows 11 issues like the useful features of start menu and taskbar are removed and the device compatability issues. It takes me to Windows 8 era where Microsoft removed the start menu button and was claimed that it was well optimised for tablets and touchscreen. I think Windows 11 and Windows 8 should make their own group. Well, I will waiting for a new and advanced version of Windows 10 maybe it is Windows 12 😊😊😊

In fact, back in late 2020/early 2021, there were rumors that Sun Valley, which ultimately was the codename for Windows 11, was going to be the major 21H2 feature update for Windows 10 until we found out in June 2021 that it was Windows 11.

“Built on Windows 10”, “last version of windows”, there was no reason to Change the version number, even with major changes under the hood. Many had come to expect and eagerly awaited the twice yearly ‘feature’ updates. Instead, people feel like Microsoft is forcing something on them, particularly the macOS look. If we wanted a Mac experience, we’d get a mortgage and buy a Mac.

The biggest problem with Windows 11 is you need new hardware. I bought a new laptop for this reason, To be fair my last one was purchased in 2012. Then they said Windows 12 would need different hardware again in hardly a year although I don't use Copilot. Now they have backed off with Windows 12.

Problem with WIndows 11 reporting itself as Windows 10 is that it won't be possible to easily spot insecure operating systems once WIndows 10 stops receiving updates. If everything is reported as Windows 10 how is an admin meant to spot out of date OS's? Presumably via the build number which does not appear on many Entra dashboards, you have to drill in to see the build number. Uggh.

*"...I want Microsoft to bring back the ability to RESIZE the Start Menu.."*
BUT... I'm pretty sure the Start Menu in Windows 11 is meant to be similar to a SMARTPHONE so that people can go back and forth between mobile and desktop. That was the goal with Windows 8 with the stupid tiles. That failed, and the Start Menu in W10 was probably meant to match the Microsoft PHONES (not sure if they failed by that time, but the work had been put in and I honestly like the concept). Now, W11 looks like a generic smartphone. So RESIZING is probably not gonna happen.

If it's not that different, then why should anyone even move at all? Why use something new that is the same? Why make a windows 11 if it's the same as 10? What would be the point? That in itself just proves that the whole statement is silly. Grown out of desperation. Trying to play on that they actually have discovered that people just want an old working O/S like MS used to make (xp, 7 etc), but with windows 8 and 11 they did not make that. A lot of people don't like 11, like they didn't like 8. They created Windows 11 to be different against peoples wishes. Please MS just stop trying to downplay that. You did it and people don't like it. Forcing arbtirary hardware demands on users to run it. It would have been better if Microsoft would have just stuck to what they used to be good at. Create an O/S that works like a graphical interface between you and the machine code. Even if all MS and apple did was steal the idea from Xerox think tank back in the days. Just like Internet Explorer was stolen ideas from Netscape. You know create a good tool/interface like windows XP and 7 was. Then update that and make it more secure, add new features without removing old features and not create their O/S as a platform to gain access to all peoples personal data, like they do now (yes I know 7 had that in it as well). No microsoft accounts needed. No online requirements for some things to work. Not force this whole AI hysteria copilot, recall (whatever they want to call it) on everyone, when most don't even care about it, or asked for it, or want it etc. The trust is gone. I don't think it can ever be rebuilt. People only use Windows nowdays since they more or less "have to" due to various reasons, not because they actually want to. If all games, hardware drivers and programs/apps would work on Linux, many would be gone from Windows without a second thought. I know I would. I was so happy to read that the German government is moving away from using windows and will move to Linux. It's what is needed. To reach that critical mass of users so that all gaming companies, hardware manufacturers etc starts developing things (drivers, programs etc) to run in Linux, not just focus so much on one O/S like Windows. Competition is needed. We have the Microsoft and windows we now have due to them having such a dominance and them being able to do whatever they want, since there have been no valid realistic options for many to use if wanting to do all that people want to do on their PC.

Moving from Win10 to Win11 is one of the most unnecessary move in Windows history. The interface of Win10 is just fine. The fact that people can bypass Win11 TPM requirement shows that this requirement is arbitrary. Windows 11 is not much more secure than Win10. So an under the hood update to Windows 10 would have been suffice.

Many aesthetic changes are counterproductive to speed of access & recognition from the previous windows 10.

The same? Center bar I hate it, Extra context menus within menus to reach menus which I hate, you can't find any settings you actually want without actually go searching for them with search tools. different settings in different places that should be on the same place in mixed interfaces, still broken search engines, forced MS account which is outrageous! now forced encryption on the way, blocked apps to make UI better, stupidly boring minimalistic look. Windows 11 now comes with ads how nice is that, they removed the only useful text editor wordpad so that you gonna pay for office or use the stupid notepad. there is constant nagging questions and notifications ALL THE TIME interrupting your workflow in the notification corner, do this, do that, restart now, try office, update now, your onedrive is full, your defender summary, upgrade your storage plan, your bla bla bla, just shut the fffff up I DON'T CARE!!!!! many of which you can't even turn off unless you hack or use group policy editor which btw is only possible in PRO versions BTW. No Windows is turning into some self advertised bloatware that is everything else but good workflow today. it takes like 2 days to properly run in a new computer and turn all BS off after a new install to make it actually useful and I can promise that not many of my computers will run Windows after the support ends for Windows 10 next year, because None of my computers have native support for MS stupid made up demands for 11 and I don´t even want it

You said one thing wrong, you CAN place the taskbar to the left, you just aren't trying to see that. I shifted my taskbar from Center to Left, only for checking out the feature
You said one more thing wrong. You can access much more menus and options though a much smaller number of clicks. the method you are referring to is indirect and not needed.

  • @treeoflifeenterprises

i think microsoft is somewhat disingenuous in their statements as you have summerised them. They moved the text of context menu items most commonly used to a sub-menu reducing productivity, they also include adverts and push software to the start menu, which wastes time, and in a company situation causes issues if unwanted software is installed. They changed windows search to use their web search engine so finding things locally is harder and less private, they include web based widgets which increase internet traffic and slow down the startup experience, and they removed the ability to position the start menubar to any edge of the screen, removing ui configurability, making the menu pop up in the centre where most applications are likely to be running, obscuring them, and as you mentioned, the artificial requirements of tpm, a microsoft account and secure boot for an OS that doesn't need it because it is the same as windows 10 provides a massive cost of ownership as laptops and desktops can't be upgraded so new ones are needed. requiring microsoft accounts also means that it is not suitable for businesses unless you are using microsoft hosted email services. The last thing an admin or company owner wants is computers that are access controlled by staff rather than themselves, and defaulting to one-drive for docement storage is hardly ideal if a company wants to keep their data off the cloud for security reasons.
Fortunately you can manually upgrade unofficially to bypass tpm, microsoft account and secure boot requirements, but it would be nice if microsoft dropped those official requirements so that windows 10 could be upgraded officially without them. That is probably all it would take for more people to upgrade. Microsoft just needed to listen and respond appropriately to the concerns their customers raised when they first added those extra requirements.

The points mostly correct. Windows 11 is definitely not Vista or Win8. There are no compatibility issues. How you used to work in Windows 10 can pretty much carry over to Windows 11 with some workflow improvements due to new features. The main issue I see seems to be that the File Explorer performance isn't as good as on Windows 10, but as someone who's been using it as a main OS for years now, it's nothing to lose sleep over. It could be improved but it's fine.

    *Down here on PLANET EARTH...*
My PARENTS, sister and her husband all have Windows 10 computers that can NOT be upgraded to Windows 11. They are all solid machines. One of them has an i7-4770K CPU with 16GB DDR3 memory etc. They wouldn't even be AWARE that EOL is coming in 2025 if I hadn't told them. They are NOT happy about it. It's not just the money, it's also the idea of throwing these PC's in the garbage (repurpose for Linux isn't an option). And having to REINSTALL their software?
Oh, they could "migrate" over to a new computer and I could probably make that work but i'm computer literate. What about the MILLIONS of families that aren't computer savvy? They are not going to be happy.
(the average person gets pretty confused when it comes to computers. Even basic stuff. Trust me. Hey, where are my passwords? Where'd my files go? What's this new glitch? Where's the telephone so I can call my son/brother?)
Microsoft can't be expected to support W10 forever, but they set expectations that they would since they've offered updating to a new OS on the same hardware for a LONG time. There needs to be a better thought out TRANSITION here.
    My two cents?
Let Windows 10 users "upgrade" to Windows 11. Have a notification somewhere that states it's the "non-secure" version of W11 or whatever. They're a little less secure without the newer hardware features, but considering most W10 users will just stay with Windows 10 anyway isn't this the best solution?
Microsoft can push updating to Windows 11 for the old hardware and get people used to it.
(uh, small tip Microsoft. Don't F***ING force updating to a new OS. I had to DOWNGRADE people in the past because they came home and their computers had upgraded to W10 on their own.)
The Conspiracy nut in me (some would say realist) thinks Microsoft is avoiding talking about the issue because they expect a lot of NEW COMPUTERS to be sold.

Nope, as usual they are lying... They do not get how hard is on us users their idiocy with the Start menu... It forced me to buy software because they do not allow the user to keep it as it has been since Win95... They are idiots. They do not understand how hard is for the average user to keep routines we have been doing for 30 years now. Only the endless, useless fragmentation of Linux forces many of us to remain in Windows.
