- A North Bay creamery that's been around for 30 years is experiencing a surge in popularity after a San Francisco woman made their milk go viral on social media. The hashtag "MilkTok" trend is now sweeping the globe. ABC7 News made a trek up to Sonoma County to get to the "bottom" of what this "cream top" is all about. abc7ne.ws/3BW2yuN

As somebody that's drank them since forever, my deepest condolences to those just finding out
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I just love their ice cream
RIGHT?! Thought folks knew about Strauss milk like Kerrygold butter by now!
Condolences to you because they are about to go out of market soon due to the high demand. Lol
Me too! I was like why is she so excited by this? I've been drinking Strauss since 2009 this way.
When I got fired I made sure to get my Strauss creamer from the fridge. I'm not leaving that behind 😅
SO GOOD!
LOL. I hope you land on your feet and find employment
Interesting news for those of us who’ve been drinking this for years😂.
What they should’ve also reported if they did their due diligence instead of just the hype is that… you can get $2 cash back per bottle, by returning the empty rinsed out bottle at the store you bought it from.
Edit: It’s a $3.00 “deposit” refund per glass bottle.
Wow what a great deal. It must be cheaper for them to just clean, recycle and resell existing bottles than to make new ones. Better for the environment too.
I love the bottles
@@jmg9509 Exactly and the refund amount encourages people to recycle them.
@@justagirlsd3000 So do I but I love the deposit return more. Sometimes I’ll return 3 glass bottles at a time and I’ll purchase another glass of milk, with the refund it feels like I got it for free😅.
That's a really good deal glass isnt that much
The confusion on the anchors' faces 😂 "yeah, it's cream..." 😂😂😂😂
I love milk. But my whole life i have only drank homogenized. I would have thought the bottle was spoiled if it separated like that. Learn something new every day.
Most people who get whole raw milk, shake the bottle to mix the cream back into the milk before drinking it. It’s what we used to do when we got our milk delivered by a local diary. And no, I’m not a hundred years old. I’m 61 and we got our milk delivered to our house as late as 1978-79.
@@causticchameleon7861 sometimes i wish we still did that everywhere
@@icherryy Me too. My great uncle used to have a dairy in middle Georgia and would sell his milk to Atlanta dairies. I miss being to go to his place a drink fresh cold milk only an hour out of the cow. The good thing is I have some of his milk containers. The big metal ones with the family name on them. We got our milk delivered from Mathis dairy but they’ve corporatized and are no longer delivering to homes.
It grosses me out lol
Straus needs to give this girl a CHECK!
No they don’t
How do you know they didn't?🤔
Cheque? or where do you want them to "check" her? sounds invasive :)
@@CMD4WPif you aren’t already aware, English and American English use different spellings
@@kenny_truck If you are not already aware, I was playing on exactly that.
Funny. When you grow up in San Francisco, sometimes you take these things for granted. When i was a kid, milk in glass bottles was a special treat. But I just took it for granted. It was more expensive, and we got it whenever we got it.
I’ve had milk in glass bottles, most if not all don’t have this thick cream top.
@@HiThisIsMine I have only had Strauss. It was the only brand available in my local store.
We have Oberweis here in Chicago and people really don't buy it because of Almond milk and Fairlife, etc.
@@thesoundofthesuburbs Dairy is local. Milk isn't shipped all over.
My mom told me about having a milk door when she was little, and the milkman would place the milk in there. One door to outside and one door to the inside. At some point, the cat figured out the milk door was the way to get in the house, so sometimes they’d open the door to a cat instead of milk.
Strauss products are AMAZING! It is the only milk that doesn’t make me sick. Amazing taste!
They finally understood HOW advertising works these days! 😂
Basically modern TH-cam reviews, but for Tik Tok.
That’s cool and all, but now you’re left with an entire bottle of low fat milk!
You're supposed to mix the cream not eat the cream. But yeah when people don't, you're totally right.
exactly. I make sure to mix it up before every pour lol
Came here to say the same thing. Theyre ruining the rest of the milk if they remove the cream.
@@SuperAdvent1 - But don't mix it too much or you'll end up with butter.
All of a sudden this new generation likes milk when all they did all these years is say “don’t drink milk”
exactly lmao
Straus is different. At least compared to the other dairies in the region. It doesn’t suck.
I REALLY love this kind of news! ❤
And great answer about the calories, "It's best not to ask."
As someone who grew up drinking boiled milk straight from a cow, I'll definitely get some of that milk. I miss the cream on bread.
Whole milk is much higher in calories and fats. However, this can be misleading from a healthy diet point of view. See it is also much higher in proteins and other vitamins and minerals as well as being helpful to getting that full feeling as part of a meal.
In fact, it is the only product that you can drink that helps you feel full. No other liquid does this, which in the long run can reduce calorie intake from "junk" foods that do not provide any real benefits.
I’m just glad straus exists it’s a great company.
Can they at least pretend to enjoy it? damn
And pls don't encourage double dipping🤮
Both anchors used the plastic spoons backwards. The mouth on that bottle is definitely big enough for those little plastic spoons. Ridiculous.
In Mexico we call it NATA, you can spread it on toast or on bolillo with butter and sugar and it tasted bomb
I feel like almost anything in Mexico tastes better
Im surprised some don’t know about this. I hope the prices don’t go higher now because of all this. It’s already pricey as it is.
what?? Ive bought milk before with the chunk I dumped it out lol.
Have tried it, just hard to justify the price. Once in a while though!
For those wondering, at my local Andronicos, it cost about twice as much as O's Organics milk. About $7-8 (I forget exactly) for a half gallon here in San Francisco. And yes, in a big glass jar. They used to charge you $2 extra for the jar and you return it to get your $2 back, which they don't explain clearly at first.
Straus makes THE best eggnog. So happy eggnog season is about to start.
It’s expensive but at my Whole Foods they give you like a 4$ credit if you return the large milk jar. So it basically comes down to ~4/5$ for another one :)
I staretd drinking Strauss cause it does exactly what the milk delivered to home by milkman when I was a kid. Cream always rose to the top It was my everyday treat but I never drank the milk itself!
That TikToker should get a lifetime supply of this product.
no she should not lmao
@@bigphatemergy Yes, she should. She is making Straus MILLIONS of dollars for FREE. The least she can get is a lifetime supply which would probably cost the company less than $5000 to $10,000. Maybe even less. That's not even the average yearly salary of an American. It's cheap for them, and will incentize her to make more content for them for free. Every side would win.
@@jmg9509 even less than 5000 USD i think, because in corporate-talk a lifetime means a certain amount every month. it can be 1-3 bottles per month.
No way
@@jmg9509hold on it was her choice to make the video did they ask her? No they didn’t. They can thank her or give a coupon for lifetime but a free supply for lifetime? That’s stupid for business
The fact that people are just figuring this out is WILD! They have been our home milk for 31 years.
everything goes viral now because of the influx of people on social media, especially “healthy” things like this
Bruh they still not grass fed so don’t matter. They are slowly becoming a corporate too
Gtfo we like things not blown up so we can enjoy them at a decent price, not too crowded etc.
You can make butter with it. Just scoop the cream in a jar and shake it until it becomes butter.
okay yeah it's cream.
But isnt the rest of the milk super watered down because you didn't shake it up? lol
Lolol it totally says to shake it on the bottle
You should try their European style nonfat yogurt. It's great for breakfast.
Ugh yes! I have it 3cs a week with berries and a lil granola 🙌🏾💕
Dairy is scary
This is all normal and fat or cream, how these people call the thick part that accumulates slowly over time in milk, is something that’s always been and always will be. Contemporary western man is completely estranged from nature and natural, and when “discoveries” like this happen, it’s as if a eureka moment is going on. Recently, in that very same San Francisco, I planted tomatoes with a few other herbs/plants. One day, I intentionally asked someone what the tomato plant was, and the guy (33-year-old man) had no idea what that was. Nothing new, right… And as those Americans would say, same old *** 😃
.
Doctors believed my cousin was lactose intolerant because he experienced side effects after drinking supermarket milk. However, a few years ago, he tried Strauss' milk and had no side effects. Since then, he has been drinking Strauss' milk regularly without any issues. It turns out his reaction to supermarket milk was due to additives, not lactose.
I’ve been gatekeeping it 😅
Straus milk is the best. I allergy which I currently assumed the hormone in the milk, and Straus milk does not give me that reaction. Hurray Straus!!!
Strauss icecream is the best icecream ever.
It’s called “AGRESSIVE MARKETING”. Very convincing.
My lactose intolerance could never 😢
You might try lactase tablets. It's what digests lactose.
Couldn't you slowly expose your system to it, and build tolerance?
Try Raw , unpasteurized milk. It is pasteurization that kills Lactase (which is the enzyme which breaks down lactose) . You should be fine drinking Raw milk from a recognized dairy.
@@cosmic_pursuitas for us Asians, there's just no possibility.😅
@@ChiniWandersoh that’s interesting. I had no idea!
Oh helllllll no! If someone in my household ate all the cream out of our milk things would not end well for them! Leaving your family with a gallon of skim milk is just plain evil.
Just buy heavy cream and make clotted cream.
The best soft serve in the world ❤
Flavor brigade on Fruitvale Ave makes their soft serve and all of their ice cream with Strauss
@@danielfiore8865 good looking out. Will have to check them out the next time I'm there (usually for Hot Boys).
Their Dutch chocolate ice cream with a 1-2 TB of kahlua and 1 TB of Strauss milk - stir carefully. I ice cream heaven
Strange coincidence they get this coverage while measure J is on the ballot. PR dept really working overtime.
We’ve been buying Straus at Sprouts, Farmer Joe’s and other natural markets in the Bay Area for years. This is my son’s favorite milk. We don’t eat the cream with a spoon, but instead, we just vigorously shake the super heavy glass bottle so the fat breaks into small pieces that can then be eaten with cereal or drunken with milk. Just make sure you clean and return the empty bottle to the place you bought it from or to any store that sells it to get your deposit back.
Great.. gonna get so many customers asking for it at Wholefoods when we only get like 4-5 crates of it every couple of days lmao
Some of us have been enjoying Strauss for YEARS. Glad to see the company blowing up, it's amazing this didn't happen many years ago.
Their Greek yogurt is amazing as well. Cream top on that too!
Can’t wait to try it.
2:02 when the owner talked about zero carbon footprint farms being replicated all over the world, it reminded me of all the social media influencers pretending to give up city life to go live in one of these farms, but most of them don’t really do any farm work and their income comes from posting videos of their cute farm animals on social media! 🤦♂️
They’re all full of it
Love the product! You can also exchange the their bottles at the grocery store
And we return the glass bottles to whole foods, we get a refund as a few dollars off of our whole paycheck grocery bill. The milk and half and half are are a real treat.
And that is precisely why I've never drank raw milk. I've been conditioned so that whenever I see any solid chunks in my milk I don't drink that I certainly don't eat it. Can't eat cottage cheese either literally feels like the texture of regurgitated mozzarella. I'm super curious people have given it to me before and I just like put it in the fridge and was like I'll drink that later and then just dumped it someone's going to have to trick me into drinking the raw milk like add it to coffee or something
Not the one lady trying it with a toothpick and asking about the calories 😂
The way it's been since humans started milking cows. Everything old is new again.
Straus is the BEST.
OKO CAFE uses Strauss
in their phenomenal milk teas!
You're supposed to mix the cream not eat the cream.
Where do you buy this?
Are the bottles recyclable?
I love the support for mom & pop shops
Straus better give that woman some incentives.
Everybody in the know already knows 🥰. I hope this encourages other milk companies to make milk like them. I even like the fact that Strauss uses glass bottles because there is a taste difference for that too which is the main reason I even buy the half gallon versus a full gallon because I just prefer their glass jars. The other bonus is extra fresh milk.
Using Cream on coffee just makes a massive difference conpared to milk.
So… they don’t pasteurize the milk? How are they still running? All dairy products in the US must be ultra pasteurized before being sold to public. That’s a federal lawsuit waiting to happen.
No, they don’t *homogenize* it. The fat in milk doesn’t naturally stay in a uniform solution the way you get it in most cartons. The process to make it do that is called homogenization (from the Greek “homo”=“same,” and “genos”=“kind”). Straus milk is pasteurized, but it separates into cream at the top and skim on the bottom.
They do sell raw milk in the San Francisco Bay Area, though. That’s the glass bottles *next* to the Straus. People are too easily taken in by “all natural” labels.
@ says “pasteurized, non-homogenized” on the label. After seeing this I did some research. California allows the sales of raw milk, however, only within state and they have to put indications on the bottles stating as much. In order to sell out of state, they have to ultra pasteurize and homogenize it. Which it turns out, is something they don’t do. So they are violating federal law in that case, just not California law. Not only this, but they also falsely advertise and label the milk. All milk is “organic”. However, in order to put the “organic” label on milk, it must be raw. This milk is clearly not raw milk if it’s at all treated in any way. Pasteurizing is a form of heat treatment. Therefore this is not “raw organic” milk. False advertising is against California Law.
@@DLCoates1 Please reread my comment. Straus milk does not claim to be raw. They sell correctly-labeled cream top milk.
@ do they or do they not have an organic label on a pasteurized product? Again, false advertisement.
@ It’s not false advertising, because you are incorrect about the definition of organic milk. Organic milk is not required to be raw, and not all raw milk qualifies as organic. You can easily look this up on the California Department of Food and Agriculture website. The first question in the Q&A for raw milk is “Is raw milk the same thing as organic milk?” and the first two sentences of the answer are “No. Organic requirements are not related to pasteurization.” Californians drink organic pasteurized milk all the time, because we love pasture-fed cows raised without antibiotics, but we don’t love getting food poisoning. Please let it go.
Well at least now people will drink milk like we’re supposed too! Organic and good for you!
I LOVE Strauss milk and dairy products. I wish Safeway in the Sacramento area would carry it.
Those are the real honest company! And not the one big corrupt corporation! Yes speed the worth!
Wait ‘til homegirl discovers clotted cream! 😂
Straus is a very responsible and caring company.
They cap the methane from the fermenting cow poop and use it to power their facilities.
I'd like them to extend the idea of a re-usable milk bottle toward developing a reusable yogurt carton !!
I ❤ Straus!
My dad grew up on a farm and used to say that one of his favorite things was to scoop the cream off the top of the milk and put it on his hot oatmeal.
Sounds yummy.
These journalists have not broken down any information... maybe give your listeners a little insight about types of milk, how it is processed etc??!
Is the milk safe for those who are lactose intolerant?
I can’t believe she asked: “how many calories?”
A reporter who doesn’t know that real cream is always high in calories.
“Good for you?” Certainly! Unlike nonsense fats, real cream doesn’t have the empty calories and is super healthy.
Interesting...never heard of this before.
Drinking it right now! Good job of making it unavailable for those who have been drinking it for years
Their yogurt is also incredible.
I LOVE Raw full cream , non homogenized organic milk. I get mine from Schock Dairy in Prunedale / Salinas .They deliver to all the New leaf markets and sell direct to the public at the farmers markets. Milk doesn't get better than that. Literally straight from the cow to the cooler to the glass bottle.
There is no farmer I would trust enough to drink their milk raw. The risk of bacteria like Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, Campylobacter, etc just isn’t worth it
Enjoy it while you can the feds will be shutting them down. It’s a federal crime to sell unpasteurized dairy anywhere in the US.
it's not raw.. unless you are drinking fresh from the cow raw milk.. its very dangerous
If folks would talk to their older generations of family members and neighbors, you would know that this is how milk used to come. My Mom has told me stories about it about eating the cream off the top when she was a little kid and the milk man would come deliver the fresh bottles.
Gosh…it’s so nice to hear about a NICE story!
So, US is not banning TikTok anymore?
Non homogenized milk is so delicious, especially when it comes in a glass bottle! that milk has never known plastic!!
News anchor is so relatable: dispense it on caviar.
Been having this milk for decades and it is amazing...
I think you can also return the bottle for $2.
I buy that brand all the time, milk, their yogurt too! Keep buying from local businesses!
I love just eating the cream when I open a bottle
And their cookies n cream Ice Cream IS SO GOOD
How did they not know???? IT is AMAZING!
Damn, their banana milk is hella good! NorCal is a great place
This was surprisingly enjoyable! And done very well and funny. I might check it out but the calories?
Strauss is not even owned by them lol
that dude double dipped.
Albert is cuuuute!!! 🥛 🤏🏼
As a Brit, this was a choice for our milk delivery. Back then our milk was in a foil capped bottle left on our doorstep. If we didn’t take it in immediately then birds would peck through the foil and drink the cream. The long necked homogenized milk we called tea milk, though mom didn’t order it since it was more expensive. We simply shook the bottle before pouring into tea. Good memories.
Bye, on emigrating to the U.S. I stopped drinking milk since it didn’t have that delicious taste that we grew up with. I still don’t drink regular milk. I use Almond milk for cereal and tea instead
This video is amazing on many levels. Strauss has been trying to differentiate itself for years with the "cream on top" marketing line without much success. This is a great example of the power of the social media. Strauss should appoint this lady as the Brand Ambassador and give free products for life. I am glad that a local dairy business is getting a sales boost but I can't believe the ignorance of these news anchors. Looks like they just discovered cow's milk. Looking forward to another video in few months when they discover homogenized milk.
I have tried Strauss milk before but it's bit expensive and returning the bottle to get your deposit back is quite a hassle given how much milk my family goes through per week. Once you eat the cream on the top you are left with low fat milk. If you prefer the milk to have a consistent texture and taste then this is not your cup of milk.
It’s good milk! We’ll pick it up once in a while. I bought it because it was stored in a glass container, but discovered this milk is legit!
I love Straus! And their bottles!
Unfortunately it's so hard to find cream top milk. I have to drive quite a bit to get one. Hope we can get many other producers selling something good finally
Non-homogemized milk being sensationalized is such an American thing to do lmao. I'm glad you guys are finally starting to open your eyes to food that's not ultra processed. Also, you're supposed to mix the cream. Otherwise you'll have a whole bottle of low-fat/skim milk..
How much did this channel get paid for promotion 🤔 the fake smiles and words are giving it away 😂
Congratulations to a great company!
Honestly I’ve always loved this milk and the glass milk with the cow ❤ there so good i love that you can also return the bottle clean and they give some money back to you ❤
Oh this explains why it's been sold out near me for a while now.... 😩.... like happy for them but... hope it comes back in stock soon 🥺
