it’s very important that people do that ; losen those bolts. The engine is looking good. I love you clips with the additional picture aids... the joker...😀. Take care brother
You should use Vaseline only to prime oil pumps because it has a melting temp of about 115 degrees F. Some high temperature greases may never melt at engine temperatures and can clog an oil passage. As bad as Permatex silicone in your engine if it's high temperature wheel bearing grease or something. Nice work on this engine!
I know you could do it, you are very handy my friend. Stay safe, healthy, and happy! I hope you and your family have a very wonderful and merry Christmas.
Another helpful video thank you. I think I may have to change my oil pump gaskets in the future but first I am just trying to get the thing running again.
How do you break in your rebuilds, do you do the same for a full rebuild than a new piston and rings rebuild only, could you please make a video on how you do it? I've learned a lot by just watching your videos, thanks for sharing.
my 72 beetle is a 1641 now can i bolt on a aftermarket oil filter like empi straight on and be ok and an aftermarket oil cooler just thinking ? good wrenching all:)
Hi Slade, thanks for all your videos. Does it matter if the face plate goes on the same way it came off, or can you turn it 90 degrees so the wear is even?
Brother Slade I would just like to bring to your attention what might be called "a discrepancy of information" on the final assembly of the gasket installation. The outer most gasket should be mounted dry...and here is the reason for that. You will notice the pump body has an annular groove machined into it, This is a weep passage to carry oil back into the pump should the gasket fail. You will also notice that there are 2 holes in the paper gasket, they are to allow the wept oil to travel from behind the gasket.." in the weep passage" back into the pump. By using gasket goo you block the weep passage and the weep holes. Lawrence
Thanks brother!! Ya know, I had a debate about that part with someone. I was made to feel I was wrong. So I used it on both. I’ll try and see if I can get into the TH-cam studio, and edit that part or show a text caption!! Thank you!!!
Another great video Slades. Hope you had an awesome Christmas. I know I did I got lots of tools. Very helpful video definitely different from the modern oil pumps that they have on cars nowadays.
Thank you!! I had a wonderful Christmas! The whole family was together which made it awesome! Tools are a good thing!! I got a lot of stuff, almost too much. And some gift cards. I hope your Christmas was great!
Los engranajes de bomba de aceite de vw escarabajo 1300 es de 22mm??? Se podria colocar una de alto flujo es decir de 30mm encaja en agujero de la bomba????
Two questions: if you loosen the block bolts do you still need a special puller tool to get the pump out or will it just slip out? And if new nuts are not available can you re use them with sealer around them?
Hi, i got a Permatex "High Tack" Gasket Sealant instead of Aviation Gasket. It states that it 'Adheres & seals from -65* to 500* F'. Is this ok or should I stick to Aviation Gasket only? Thx

Hi Slade, how do you know when your oil pump is going bad? Would the front dash oil warning light turn on or you just have to take it apart after so many miles and inspected visually?
Another Gem from Slades, simple but very eloquent cheers buddy

what a nice guy , I`ve learned so much from this channel
Always lighthearted yet very informative! Thanks.

Yes absolutely to get the pump out much easier. Some don't do that. Thanks brother and thanks for being here.
I always love your videos, for a guy trying to teach himself you’ve been a big help. Keep ‘em coming!

at 6:20 do you put sealant on both sides of the paper gasket before the cover goes on?
Yes, but do not block the tiny little passage holes. That is the important part.

What’s the best way to remove a gasket that is like super glued to the case? Lol I’ve tried everything

Will a CB Performance Full Flow Oil pump fit on a 1500? Would I need to modify the engine tin to have room for it? Thanks!
Los engranajes de bomba de aceite de vw escarabajo 1300 es de 22mm??? Se podria colocar una de alto flujo es decir de 30mm encaja en agujero de la bomba????
Can this be done with the tin removed and pulley removed instead of having to pull the engine? Let me know your thoughts please
Honestly it can be done, but it has a very tight area to work in, But yes it can be done
Two questions: if you loosen the block bolts do you still need a special puller tool to get the pump out or will it just slip out? And if new nuts are not available can you re use them with sealer around them?
great video. I am about to do this and have one question
When you loosen up those 3 nuts, won't that break the gasket sealant between the two halves?
If you mean the case halves, no.
The pump I received had the gear punch marks facing different directions out of the box...one faced forward the other aft. Is that wrong?
If the pump is bad, will the engine have a tappet noise from being dry? And the oil pressure light not go out? Thanks.
It’s is VERY possible!! I wouldn’t run it until you figure it out!

I’m sure that will work too. I’ve stuck with the aviation stuff for a while
Should the block be tightened before the bolts on the oil pump ? Or does it matter
I just tighten them in the end. I've never had an issue. You can do it either way im sure! Thanks for being here.

Hi Slade, can you do it with the engine in?
I imagine it could be done, but it would be so much easier to drop the motor down to be honest with you.
Engine need to be removed?
Or is something you can do with engine installed, my idea is to install a pump with oil filter
I’ve never tried to do it with the engine installed. I think it would be extremely difficult. For as fast as these motors come out, you’re better off doing it on the floor. Oddly enough next weeks video is engine removal. 😂😂
I have an aftermarket exhaust, but I didnt pull thengine and was able to do it
I would have just snugged up the oil pump nuts, torqued the three case bolts, then torqued the pump bolts.
Hi Slade, how do you know when your oil pump is going bad? Would the front dash oil warning light turn on or you just have to take it apart after so many miles and inspected visually?
You would watch for your oil warning light to come on. But also remember those sending units can go bad so you would have to test it.
Done all this still leaks .
😳😳 That’s very odd. Did you torque properly? I am quite sure you did I never had one leak.

Can you just put an oil filter housing instead of the basic base plate? Thanks!!!
Thanks for the videos
