I listen to this video of Danny Boy over & over again. His incredible voice & the emotions he puts into a 117 yr old English/Irish song gives me chills. You can feel the pain of a mother sending her 3rd boy off to fight in WW1 never knowing if she will see him again. Thank you for reacting to music that is just as amazing today as it was when first recorded .

This is a cover of the original Danny Boy Irish folk song . I've never heard a song like this. I've passed up this title because I don't care for the original. But this one has got little bit of soul to it.

What you will find is that he sounds just as good. A lot of performers couldn’t produce the same vocal performance on stage and live as their cleaned up studio versions. I didn't know this but Jackie Wilson had a massive heart attack during a performance on The Dick Clarke Show in 1975.
By 1976, he was in a semi- comatose state as a result of a stroke and, apparently, broke.
His manager had done him real dirty. Whole story behind that.
Anyway, Elvis Presley had paid for most of Jackie Wilson's medical bills.
They were good friends. Jackie Wilson's son, Bobby Brook Wilson, talked about that in an interview.
So the song "Danny Boy" is over a hundred years old.
The song is an Irish traditional written by English lawyer and poet, Frederic Weatherly in 1913.
There are a few theories as to how the lyrics of Oh Danny Boy got set to a pre- existing tune called "Londonderry Air". It wasn't the original tune, some theorize, that Frederic Weatherly had chosen but upon hearing the tune of "Londonderry Air", he tweaked his lyrics to better suit the older Irish melody.
Another theory goes that it was his sister- in- law, Margaret Weatherly, who had introduced Frederic Weatherly to "Londonderry Air" and others theorize it was a few years later that it was when the lyrics to "Oh Danny Boy" got set to the older melody.
There are two or three theories as to how "Oh Danny Boy" got set to the tune of "Londonderry Air".
As for Londonderry Air, that, too, has a few theories as to how it got discovered and set to paper to be memorialized for future generations to come.
The most popular theory is that a woman by the name of Jane Ross had heard this fiddler playing a tune that she'd never heard before and so asked him if it was alright if he'd play it for a friend of hers who was collecting old Irish traditionals to be set to paper and published.
The fiddler, whose name has since been lost to time, agreed.
This event was said to have occurred in Limavady, Ireland.
