    Hey Miss BrandyBerry!
    Loovvveee Sam Cooke 💖
My Dad's two top favorites by Sam Cooke are/ were "A Change Is Gonna Come" & "Bring It On Home To Me".
Two others I personally love by Sam Cooke are "Try A Little Tenderness" & "You Were Made For Me".
Some of Sam Cooke's hits are "Cupid", "Chain Gang", "Twisting The Night Way" and "Good Times".
Sam Cooke's father was a Reverend for "Church Of Christ" and the family moved from Clarksdale, Mississippi when Sam Cooke was around 2 years old.
Here's a fun fact for you: Sam Cooke attended the same school as Nat King Cole did (another one of my Dad's favorite male vocalists) in Chicago- just a few years later and Sam Cooke also befriended Lou Rawls when they were both teenagers in a revival Gospel group.
(Lou Rawls would also go on to be a success in the music industry- as a record producer, composer, singer, and even actor; genres of music Lou Rawls was active in: Gospel; R&B; Blues; Soul; Jazz. As an added aside: I am only familiar with Lou Rawls Blues stuff & quite possibly his Soul & R&B stuff. My Dad introduced me to Lou Rawls too.)
Another fact about Sam Cooke: He was/ is known as the "King Of Soul". He is also considered a pioneer of Soul Music, his contributions having made it possible for other Soul music artists to be successful Soul singers/ artists- chief among them Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, and Stevie Wonder and popularized the music of Otis Redding and James Brown (a veritable list of more of my Dad's and Mom's favorites... Seriously, this is like music from my childhood, even though I was born in decades after these artists rose to fame)
I saw in the comments others have mentioned The Soul Stirrers so I'll wrap it up here I think since that about answers your question 😊
Thank you SO much reacting to Sam Cooke! He had one of the smoothest voices on the planet. May he R.I.P. ✌🌹🙏💕
Hope you & yours are doing well, Miss BrandyBerry 💗💙💜
Peace ✌, light 🌞, & love 💖 to you & yours & to one & all here as well 💕

Love Sam Cooke. He was nicknamed the "King of Soul". He had lots of great hits in the 50's-60's such as "A Change Is Gonna Come", "Bring It On Home To Me", "Cupid", "Wonderful World", "Chain Gang", "Twistin' The Night Away", "Another Saturday Night", "Good Times" etc. Sadly he was shot & killed in 1964 at the age of only 33. But he left us a great legacy of music.

Brandy, that music was inspirational. It was music to slow dance too. This is what I grew up with and even if you just hear the music you knew the name of the song. You could sing and harmonize with it. You mentioned Quatet music and groups of that time. One of the best The Platters.

Of course every singer or group that appeared on American Bandstand hosted by Dick Clark had to lip-synch. To their records. Sam mouthed the words perfectly.

The reason why Sam was called "The King Of Soul" was because he was the first black artist to use gospel rhythms and phrasing in secular music. Sam was the first black artist to own the copyrights to his own music, and the first black crooner in the R&B era. Every pop/R&B singer today has stolen something from Sam's style. He was the original. Try "Bring It On Home", "Chain Gang", "Havin' A Party", "Don't Know Much About History", "Wonderful World", "Cupid", and "Saturday Night" for more of this unique and original artist. Another great and original singer of the period is Johnny Mathis, who is still alive. Try the early live black and white version of him doing "It's Not For Me To Say" and you'll see the original "little boy lost" personality that Sam Smith stole and has since corrupted.
