- Foreigners first impressions of Kovalam in our first proper Kerala travel vlog in 2023
In this india travel episode we leave the Sivananda Ashram in Neyyar Dam, and head to the Keralan tourist town of Kovalam. And we are on a mission to find a man, who has no idea we are coming for him

Our overall plan in India is to travel via rickshaw/tuk tuk from the South to North (if it's possible?) The next leg of our journey is to travel all the way through Kerala, and then a bit more of Tamil Nadu before reach Karnataka
Here is the link for Ganesh Homestay, we really enjoyed our stay there g.co/kgs/M5i8iS
WE POST VIDEOS EVERY WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY 8PM AND SUNDAY 9AM (British Time
We have only just arrived in India, after a crazy time back home doing van life and living full time in our camper van conversion for two years in the UK. But after some serious engine problems that cost us a fortune, we came to India on a mission to honour Liam's Grandad's legacy who sadly died earlier this year. With the inheritance money Liam got from that, we bought the tuk tuk and named it after Liam's Grandad.

Omg Janine I LOVE those sunglasses!!! Awesome!! 🩷
Hi... we love the way you travel. And I also see you seem to tired fighting the wind. My humble advice, please wear a scarf and wear/cover yourself with a full sleeve shirt( will help with the sunburn) and drink plenty of water/fluids. Since you are touring the southern... there will be plenty of coconuts to drink from ...easier way to keep hydrated. Just incase you needs more fluids ask for ELECTRAL, its an ORS in a powdery form with clear instructions. Stay safe and complete your journey. P.S: you can ask just for sambar, people drink it directly from the plate... yes, bring the plate to your lips and SIP. Dont forget to try the rasam. Lots of love.
I’m a 74 year old English guy who lives in Byron Bay Oz, and I love your channel I think you’re two really nice people and thank you
Thanks so much, love Byron
Loved a few of the videos I have seen on yr channel. I was born in Kerala and definitely an Indian Australian who now misses my country a lot.
Thank you for bringing the real essence of India through its people, it's places and yr genuine comments abt India.
Hope you enjoy and feel the genuinity of Indians and their ever suprisingly good nature.
Have a safe and memorable trip.
Plz if you do come to Australia , lemme know .
Hey Peter,
Howdy from Sydney. Love Byron bay so much. Hope you're doing well
I absolutely love these Indian episodes…. I don’t want them to end!!! Thank you 🙂
We should just keep doing them
Louisa I feel the same ❤️ I did 3 years of solo travel vlogging in India and Those Happy Days are helping me to re-live my time there ❤️
Agreeee
Hi Liam and Janine, That was so generous of you and Janine's father to remember a AutoRickshaw Driver after 15 years and handing over your letters and complement to him. You made me overwhelmed with your gesture and hope the Auto Rickshaw driver will feel the same too. All the best for your future endeavors.
He was so happy, thank you 😊
Its absolutely mind boggling to watch this video. Its amazing to learn that your dad remembers the man he met fifteen years back and sends gifts for him.We hardly see such humanity nowadays. We tend to ignore even our close family members and take them for granted and do not recognise their presence or love.Great persons like your dad reminds us of humanity and how we should never place anything above love and humanity. And you both of you richly deserve being his son and daughter.God bless you all with all the happy things in the world.
You're making me fall in love with India more and more each episode.💕
🇮🇳🙏 Good
Don't wait...plan a visit ..everything will fall in place
How wonderful that you found your dad’s friend, Janine! Loving your journey around India 💕
Wow ! I almost teared up ( actually I did ) with the anticipation of meeting the rickshaw driver 15 yrs later. God bless you guys. Keep the videos coming.
❤️❤️
What a fabulous experience, to be invited to your dads friends home and end up connecting just like your dad once did Janine. The world is a small place and colour, creed and language are no barriers to friendship. Such a heart warming episode of your adventurous travels xxxxx
❤️❤️❤️
awesome. Its so heart warming to see how you have a connection with Kovalam. Your Dad must be a lovely man who still remember and wrote a letter to the guy. He gonna remember this forever. Great vlog. Have a great journey ahead!!
Thank you, Janines dad is so happy
What a super vlog. So glad you found the friend of your dad. I have to say I'm in awe, of the hospitality and such heart warming people. ❤
Liam and Janine, a big thankyou for bringing the real India into our lives. ❤
It's a real pleasure honestly 🙏❤️
What an absolutely beautiful story from start to finish. I'm super glad you found the gentleman after 15 years, what a miracle ❤ India truly is a very homely and welcoming country, the public seem so helpful. Happy travels, this brouggt a tear to my eye x
Visit Incredie India...but you need to accept it as is ..and look at the positive and ignore the negative
Not only are you two glowing after your week-long ashram stay, but your whole rhythm and pace have steadied and your vibration feels deeper. It's quite a stunning but very nuanced transformation. And your face, Janine! You look as if you have awakened from a month-long deep and restful sleep. Beautiful! And Liam u seen calmer and more relaxed than ever. You were so correct about needing to stay and rest for that entire week, Liam! And the letter from your dad to the rickshaw driver, Janine, was the perfect event to follow that week. Good karma is rippling all around you! You have a van life channel like no one else! You bring gifts to us viewers each that we would have never expected! Thank you, adorable couple! 😍
❤️❤️❤️ thank you so much, you are extremely insightful and intuitive ❤️
So heart warming that you could fine the rickshaw driver and deliver the letter. You both seem to be glowing from your ashram experience too 😊
😊 thank you
Yes I also said the same in my comments. Liam and Janine are glowing after the ashram experience ❤️
My eyes broke with tears...
Another heart warming insight into India. Wonderful! 🤗😍
Glad you enjoyed it!
I am in tears!! Thank you. Amazing work and so touching. xxx
❤️❤️❤️
Another great episode. So lovely to see the less touristy places. Beautiful countryside, gorgeous beaches, glorious food, and wonderfully kind people. How wonderful that your Dad and the driver remember each other after 15 years. I hope the medicine worked for your sore throat. I use Ayurvedic medicine myself on occasion. How lovely was the home you stayed in too. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. Stay safe and happy travels xx
Thank you, the medicine worked fab and sore throat went. Ayurveda is great isn't it
Loving this journey in India. I especially like that you’re experiencing the social gamut. Wonderful that you found your dad’s friend!
What an amazing story about the letter and friendship across the years ....how brilliant you were able to find your Dad's friend ❤ Great video guys , the homestay looks beautiful
Love that you have mentioned ayurveda medicine, I've recently been studying it and trying their remedies, it's truly amazing! Also so glad to see your subs growing, I have been watching you from the start and its fantastic to see the growth you both deserve it!
Aw thank you, that's very kind. Ayurveda is great, we have tried too effective and powerful ayurveda medicines so far
India is the second most populous country on earth; soon to be the first. I wonder where all the new subbscribtions come from. These guys are not daft.
There are good ayurvedic doctors in Ireland , for when you get back…if you come back !
Katrina I was also EXCITED about the ayruveda meds in this vlog. During my 3 year solo travel stint in India I engaged in alot of ayurveda. Re powder massage, shirodhara, baste treatments, Kiri and more.... Wow ❤️
Live your life...visit Incredible India...remember accept India as it is and not as you see them in the vlogs.. Beauty is in the eyes of of beholder ..accept as it is
India is a wonderful country because it has many cultures and languages...foreigner people say our country is dirty..but we are happy for your visit.
I’ve really enjoyed this part of your travels. I can visit India vicariously through you both as unlikely to due to disability. You have met some lovely people, visited amazing places & loving your rickshaw 😊
As a malayalee living and working abroad, I absolutely love watching travel vlogs in my tiny little underrated state in the vast chaotic cauldron that is India. And by far and away this has to be the best! The experiences you share are so magical and heart warming that it made me tear up!
Also there is something magical about Kerala that I yearn to go back there........ if only we had job opportunities like else where in the world
Another great episode on your Indian journey 👏🏻👏🏻 Fantastic that your subscribers have jumped up, well deserved 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yay! Thank you!
I wish you a joyful and adventurous safe travels!
That's so very kind of you thank you 😊
Hi Janine and Liam, you are both so adorable that I've binge-watched most of your videos and recently subscribed to your channel. I'm a British/South African born in Liverpool but my parents emigrated to SA when I was 5. As mum was mad about London, I lived there for 10 years leaving in late 2005 to do some world travel. I ended up living in Varanasi India from Nov 2005 to Oct 2007. I met my Indian ex-husband there AND my German wife. (I've lived in Germany for 7 years now). I've travelled much of India, Planet India as it's called as it's so unique. Enjoy your time travelling the country in your cool auto-rickshaw, Pete! Have fun! PS I've been vegetarian since my teenage years in 1985 when it wasn't popular. Lots of love, Erin❤️
Seriously you are a lucky person. ...
Varanasi??....TWO years.!! Damn u must be tough as hell
@@richardfredrick964 The corruption started to drive me nuts in the end. So it was good to finally get out. But in between we travelled extensively in the North. : )
@@catherinechristiansen2699things are getting better now. Please do visit again.
Another superb episode filled with food, culture and emotion. You guys just put together such fantastic footage for us to watch. So much appreciated, especially by me who has advanced cancer so my days of travelling are limited to the UK. Meeting up with the rickshaw driver and his wife must have been so amazing and you’re quite right to keep some things personal. You guys are amazing!! Thank you so much! ❤
Oh noooooo I'm so sorry to hear about your advanced cancer. Sending love ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I did solo travel vlogging in India for 3 years but recently came back to the uk as my mum has been diagnosed with cancer. I'm so glad u are enjoying watching Those Happy Days vlogs. Liam and Janine are my friends. We have literally swapped places. When they were vlogging in the uk I was vlogging in India. Now they are vlogging India and I'm vlogging the UK! You take care my love ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Such a joy to behold, connecting with your dad's friend, the food, the beach, the rose coloured glasses, the home stay.
We're loving these India episodes!! You both look so at peace there and it suits you both!! :)
🙏✌️
Love from Tamil Nadu ❤️... You guys are nice to most of them... I started watching yesterday and I've completed the India series... Will wait for your next video
Thank you so much 💓
They have truly "been nice" to everyone and not just to "some of them" ! 😊
Really enjoying watching you both journey around India series of videos, absolutely fantastic ,Thank you.
Our pleasure!
Why watch Video's...visit I dia before INR gets on par with USD...welcome to India and soak it in...just remember ACCEPT IT AS IT IS..and you will relish it
Another fab video, learning so much from your travels. Love how you both prefer the non tourist food and places, so we get to see the real and beautiful India. Thank you 🙏❤️
Your dad is such a cool guy 🙏
Glad you said that Janine “That we must accept all people for who they are and wherever they are”. This stands true unless their lives are so blatantly tainted and corrupted by the great love of money, and trappings of life. It was part of Ghandijis Philosophy Satyagraha. Ghandiji was highly intelligent, yet relinquished ownership of worldly trinkets and being governed by money. You are doing well both of you on this journey. Keep going ! Remain slightly mad , to do what you are doing 😜 !
Thanks for being a great addition to my week. Learning from your channel is fabulous…. I’m about to quit work and go travelling myself…. Thank you for the inspiration!
Good on you!
Lisa, Those Happy Days really are fantastic travel vloggers aren't they. Will u be solo travelling? I did solo travel vlogging in India for 3 years! ❤️
Awesome job with the video. Love seeing all these interesting parts of India. Stay safe.
Love from Kerala ❤️
❤️
Thanks for showing incredible india❤❤
Our pleasure
Hello from Rhodes Greece 🥰 , oh my goodness , I really got emotional Janine with the story about your dad and the letter and gift. I didn't know anything about India and its people 💗. Thank you both so much for all the lovely content.❣️ Hugs and kisses till next time. Bless you both. Love you both 😘
So nice to be part of the rekindling of a friendship
Hello Liam and Jeanine, I started to watch your video's from India. I dont know you both well but what I could see was, that Jeanine looking very tired/dehidrayted after every driving in the Rickshaw, but after you stayed one week at the ashram, Jeanine looking so freshed up refreshing and her face is shining and her eyes glowing from energy, its great to see how the ahsram gave you the energy back you lost on the road. Of course understandable everything is new and dangerous roads in India and so on... 🙏💪💯💯💯🧘🧘
So happy to see you found the rickshaw driver, your dad will be so pleased, great video ❤️
He's really pleased thank you
Loving this adventure around India. One day I will trek in the himalayas.
❤️🇮🇳
Another great episode with a lovely personal story...so nice that Janine's Dad kept that bond with the friend he made all those years ago. The episodes are so absorbing and it's always sad when they end. PS Janine....try and get us a clip of the kittens as well 😀
Janine has been finding lots of kittens haha
A very enoyable video to watch, you both look very happy and full of energy for your 7 days of yoga and chanting. Looking forward to your next vid. Stay safe and enjoy.😁
Hi Guys. Such a great episode. Happy that you guys are enjoying my land 'Kerala'. Although I would like to point out one correction, Kerala has never been a dry state , Yes public drinking was prohibited, but Kerala has N number of bars and alcohol-selling outlets where you can enjoy a drink. or two. Only a few years back Govt tried to make Kerala a dry state and they banned alcohol, but it didn't last very long.
Wish you both a happy Kerala your
Cheers 😊
Hi Liam
Nice that you are enjoying your Indian trip. Way to go. It’s really mind blowing and I wish could come along with too. I love travelling in India ( I am Malaysian ). It is really Cheap And incredible for its Architecture and Cuisine.
Since you are in Kerala ….. do not miss the boat house in Alleppy or Kumarakom ( a more remote village but yet it is romantic). Google for the images and further details. Keep the video flowing.
I know it pretty thought to travel long distances via Auto which shouldn’t have. Break up your journeys so that both of you and the engine don’t get burned up ….
Enjoy India .I have travelled to India for the past 30 years and had been almost 80% of the place … so if you want any advice or idea you can write to me
See you again bro
Thank you ❤️
Absolutely love seeing your trip around India ❤
Thank you ❤️
Lots of love and blessings from Varkala, Kerala 🥰😉
Same to you
Being a spiritual powerhouse on the planet, India is eye opener for those visiting this country with open mind
😊
I feel the love exuding from everyone x so pleasing to watch x
You two gorgeous people also attract absolutely gorgeous people. Thanks for sharing all of the gorgeous people!
🇮🇳❤️
I went to Kovalam in 1991. Wonderful, wonderful place then as well. I think I staid at the Sea Rock hotel which was smack on the beach there and we had King Fisher beer from bootles which seemed to be common, if I remember corerctly 🙂 Great video as usually! Thank you guys! Much Love
Loving your travels guys ❤ when you first got down to the beach from the homestay in this video with the little lake at the back of the beach I could see the house we’ve stayed in twice. The big White House behind Janine. Thanks for bringing back amazing memories for me of my time spent in the village with the locals and enjoy the rest of your travels in beautiful crazy India xx
Ah wow, so pleased your place was featured 😍
How lovely that you found your dad’s friend! Yet another excellent vlog you two , keep safe xx
Guys that week although tough really did help you at the looks of your wife, Liam. She is very lucky that you supported her in keeping into it. Good for her. She looks so refresh and energy. Wow the homestead is awesome. Oh the rose colored glasses so fit you Jaydean. I am so impress that leaving “Pete” is safe and no worries of tampering.
❤️❤️❤️

Looks like a great place to visit, loved every second 🙂

Hi, I am from Kerala, I have some suggestions for anyone planning to visit Kerala, I wouldn't recommend going to any "Ashram" in Kerala, It simply exist as a outside tourist attraction. most locals won't visit such places, Mostly it is a culture of North India. If you want to experience the culture of Kerala, some suggestions would be to visit Places like Munnar, Wayanad etc and visit Temples, churches, village areas, reserve forests, backwaters, beaches, hill stations etc. Try some food from local restaurants, it will be cheap and authentic. Also try tender coconut.
A wonderful adventure series and have become a big fan. My wishes and prayers that your journey further be filled with great memories and people. Your series is definitely going to make so many other follow your adventures... God bless you both.
Aaww how wonderful for you to find your Dads friend, how lucky was that to find him, it would of made my day as we can tell with you both it really did…well done to you both.
You both look so well and completely rested since your time doing yoga, it has done you both good.
Stay happy and thanks again for a wonderful video
Thank you it made our day indeed 😊
You both look so relaxed after after your week in Ashram ! It’s fantastic news for your dad and his friend he met 15 years ago . I’m really enjoying watching your Indian travel it makes up for all the hardships in winter van life Uk . Enjoy and stay safe ❤️🙏

Liam you look amazing coming out of that yoga retreat
Thank you ❤️
Good day, beautiful people. Your adventures are truly worth viewing. Everything is such good value for money. Why is the West so expensive? Ah well. Keep enjoying, and look forward to the next part of your trip.
Wow what a rickshaw this man has that Liam is speaking to. How incredible fifteen years later. The wood detail in your stay is gorgeous. Ginger coffe? The ginger in the coffee is a plus for the gut! OMG the shopping center is unbelievable. Oh the Arts and crafts village are so beautiful from the handiworks. Such hospitality. How special it is to recognize beautiful people for your Dad is golden for both. Looking forward to the rest of your travels there.
Thank you for continuing to join us, it really means a lot Bernadette 💓
Ah wonderful experience Liam and Janine and great for your Dad and mum as well. Yes a humbling experience sometimes but they are lovely people. I remember the crows flying around and no seagulls and the beer is a bit different, glad you are liking the food. As you venture northwards the beaches get nicer and facilities get better more tourists and you will be able to swap stories with fellow Brit and other Europeans if you want to. And so another great video, enjoy and take care both.
Wow! Another brilliant video! Your grandfather would be so thrilled with what you two are doing♥️
I think he would too 🙏🇮🇳
