this 1965 chevy monza go kart was parked a long time ago in an airplane hanger with a bad engine, lets try to double the horse power in it and go for a ride,
58 here, hot wheels to slot cars too bmx too mini bikes n go karts too race cars. we used to get flats on our go kart,no money for tubes so we stuffed red shop rags in the tire. the rags would all clump to one side and cause one heck of a bumpy ride! but whe you have a running go kart looking at you, you'll stop at nothing!!!
70 year old couple ere sat sipping dram and laughing our bits off watching this absolute classic here in NW France. May the gods continue to shine down on you Mustie for bringing us so much happiness and laughter.
Nothing better than seeing a bunch of grown men having a blast on a go cart... The smile on each of your faces makes this video totally worth watching... Love it...
As a 12 year old with graying hair I totally agree it should be Mach 5'd. That looks like crazy amounts of fun, it's way faster than any go kart I've seen. And Mustie being a bad influence on his friends will never stop being hilarious.
My wife just said boys with their toys lol,it looks like a blast to drive ,quick too ,looks fantastic and the exhaust just finishes it off ,great work Mustie once again 👍👍
As a fellow gray headed 12 year old, I know that if I were a kid and was given this as a 12 year old, within @ 30 minutes I would have wanted a more powerful engine and more speed. I also would have wanted a custom exhaust with twin tailpipes and knew I'd have the coolest go cart around. And yes, every time Mustie chuckles, I smile. Great restore and upgrade.
great job and now this is why i watch your video's makes me want to get one just for the fun of it. Nothing wrong with being a kid again after 50's lol keep it up bud.
12 yr olds with grey hair, gotta love it, stay young at heart and youll live forever, keep the great content coming mustie, im 43 bald with grey beard lol, im a single father of 3 boys, 24, 19, and 17 matter of fact today is my middle sons 19th bday my oldest turned 24 on the 7th, i grew up on dirtbikes and karts my boys grew on dirtbikes and karts, no matter how old u get the smiles nvr stop coming when you and your kids and friends and family spend the day ripping on whatever ya got!!
Hey Mustie, just a thought but there is a 3rd party company that makes an electric start kit for these little 212 cc predator engines, got one for my tiller, works pretty good. Its around $130 if i remember correctly, would eliminate the need for the pull start!
Well done, I honestly think you are going to need a flex joint in that exhaust it will fatigue over time and probably pull the exhaust studs out of the engine as you can see the engine moving around and the exhaust id solid mounted.
@@nevillegoddard4966 yeah that would be a good idea. Small exhaust hangers at the bottom. I also think it still needs a flex joint up the top as the length of the exhaust will have a lot of leverage on the top mounting. I have seen ride on mowers with these same issues I am refering too.
Good morning, Mustie! Wow! What a fun video😃! Someone is going to have LOTS of fun with that🏎. It just goes to show, you're always a kid at heart and will always enjoy the simpler things that we all loved when we were younger🧒. Thanks so much for the ride along! Enjoy the rest of the weekend! God bless.
I don't know what it is, but I see all sorts of people on TH-cam with souped up sports cars, supercars and various exotics...but the people driving what is essentially a glorified go-cart are the ones having the most fun driving it!
What a great finish!!! You always amaze us with what you can do with a few good parts and pieces. The exhaust was perfect. You should be the Pace Car for some upcoming race or event.
Hi I'm 77 this month I'd happily spend on a flight from Scotland just to have a rip on this cool machine. If you fit a hinge at the nose and catches on the rear you will be able to have a quick way into the workings of this awsome machine for all round maintenence.
Large children with little toys...too much fun! Congratulations...Mustie , you started a project and almost completed one. To fix the sharp turn cut off problem, it will be completed.
Having played with building karts back in my navy apprenticeship days in the late 1970's, and sticking a 200cc motorbike engine on the arse end- I know exactly how you guys felt driving that- The grin on ones face lasts for days. It is an experience everyone shoud try. You did good Mustie1 - Top Marks Darren! one of your best in recent times!
I'm 64 going in 14! Maybe some day you will get a 3D printer for those custom intakes, but for now, you did a fabulous job retrofitting that intake! Nice Job!
if the problem turns out to be fuel slosh in the bowl, one of our karting tricks is to use some fuel tolerant foam cut to fit in the bowl and not mess with the float. The foam slows down the slosh. In my 6 speed shifter kart I use what we call a "pump-around" system which uses a second impulse fuel pump and a epoxied tube to extract excess fuel and put it back in the tank along with the foam to control sloshing. The float, needle and needle seat are removed completely and the fuel level is set by the tube epoxied from the top of the bowl. Perfect fuel level at all times and eliminates tip in bog when you apex and sends you on the way.
Out of the Park, Mr. Darren!! Beautiful and everything fits just right. You made a good call on the bicycle-handlebar exhaust, motor looks nice in there, not whittled in. Personally I'd leave the paint refurbished Red that you got it with. Maybe a bat-switch bypass on the low-oil setup, to keep the functionality but also allow the fun.
To all the naysayers screaming "sacrilege" and keep it as "original" (or close enough with one of the other "shed" engines) as possible. That's right. He does have all those spares. But you don't. You have a credit card and a Harbor Freight discount app on your phone. This will get him views. And as someone who's been here since a little before the trike, please let the man cook? I'll just step off my soap box and go away now.
If this was an old mower, by all means, put a Chinese replacement motor on it. The issue is, this has historical significance to it. But, he bought it, so he can do what he wants with it. Just seems like he took the easy way out.
The easy way out?? He's got hours upon hours inti this plus, he has the original engine that he can throw in with a few bolts. He's out having a blast with his buddies, making memories AND making money! Stop hating and let this expert mechanic do what he pleases with HIS possessions while teaching and entertaining us that cannot do half of what he can.
Hey mustie. I just wanted to say thankyou so much. I've been so interested in the world of mechanics for a very long time. Yourself and a couple other youtubers have given me the confidence to chase what i love so. I've been tinkering wherever i go. And always seem to have the right tool at the right time. Well thanks to you i have an interview this week in a mechanics apprenticeship and i really do hope I'm accepted. So a huge thanks again mustie for giving me the confidence to tinker on thing's and chase what i love so. Have a nice day!
years ago, I built a dune buggy with that heat tape on the exhaust. Turns out a heat shield was the way to drop that temp by a bunch. The exhaust was heating my butt right through the floorboards.... and it made a BIG difference. BTW, thanks for the laughs here!
That little thing is awesome with that engine in it. Great innovations to get it there, the exhaust, the pull start mods. Glad you were firm on not cutting the body and making it work. Great work!
I came home from school when I was about 6 and the first place I went to was behind a shed to do my business. I saw my first buggy made by one of my Dad's employees. It was made from a radio flyer red wagon, same wheels , the steering wheel was made from another axle and red wagon wheel. It steered well enough for me. Looked like a small version of a model A. I was a proud driver even though it was pedal driven. That was in early 1950s. A great video. I loved it
Handlebars are defunked because little Joey kept falling off his bicycle. Brother in law of mine had a go cart we used to race around the neighborhood in. Man that was fun even when it breaks or runs out of fuel and had to push it back to his house. You make Sunday videos always interesting and educational.
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome. The colour scheme you have in mind would be perfect for this. You may as well complete your dream. So thanks for taking me along on this build. ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.
Day late but im here boys!! We used to run go karts where we grew up in a suburb of Minneapolis MN. Cops would always just wave at us and never messed wit us kids.

Coolest thing ever, the inner child is so impressed with that cart.

The joy that Mustie finds in life is all of his own making. Thanks, as always!
To the little Kid in all of us. Great video !
You don’t stop playing because you get old , you get old because you stop playing, fantastic toy well done from a 59 year old boy 😀👏👏😀

What a turn around, saved it for more years of fun
When your friend entered the fray, it was like a sausage trying to get back into the casing. Loved it. Narragansett Bay

I think that is the best looking machine so far.
It' got styles..
Bunch of old men playing like kids!! I love it and I’m totally jealous.
Your idea for the exhaust is fabulous. Thanks.

I envy you Mustie. You can still do what I am unable to do because of my old age and bad health. I enjoy living vicariously through you.
Well done, I honestly think you are going to need a flex joint in that exhaust it will fatigue over time and probably pull the exhaust studs out of the engine as you can see the engine moving around and the exhaust id solid mounted.
@@stew6338 I wonder if Mustie could make the lower exhaust mounts flexible? Cos that engine is gonna be moving all the time!
Glad to see I’m not the only one who thought of that….
