Now there are phone IChing phone apps available. Will those still work even though you're not physically throwing coins but instead tapping a button 6 times to get the outcome?
say what! I want to see the rest of the lecture! And why didnt anyone ask about the changing lines! I remain hankering... can I find the rest of this lecture anywhere please?
Here is my understanding, as a westerner. The I Ching is an Oracle, but not used for telling your future. It is for gaining wisdom regarding your present. And it is a book of metaphors… It is one long story, broken up into parts delineated by the hexagrams, which are used in the divination. A question is asked, the coins are cast, and the response is received. Many different people have written both translations of the Hexagrams, and interpretations of them as answers. Here’s the thing…… And you will only know this when you sincerely cast the IChing coins and get your answer. You will be receiving your answer from the alive Loving Intelligence who I believe is the quantum Field. The Metaphorical stories are to teach you the way of the Cosmic Principles of harmony.
I hate it when somebody tries to hijack the subject, as happens in around 9:40, when the woman (inappropriately) mentions the impact of religion, and the teacher says that this is book predates religion in China. So... do not keep on harping about what religion thinks about this.... let the teacher pursue his lecture, please!!!!
in some areas of the world, especially in Asia, religion matters heavier than almost anything in someone's life. So such question is inevitable, especially since I Ching becomes the main foundation of Confucian, that even Indonesia recognizes as a religion. So don't be surprised if an Indonesian Confucian also able to attend such session would be driven to ask about it's connection to the religion. It's like discussing Books of Samuel from Bible as historical texts to fill the gap of Israel history while being attended by a devout Christian
although the 'white colonial' women appear to ask primitive questions I actually thought that they were the right ones to ask. The impact (I didnt hear impact but maybe I missed it) or the fact that any form of divination is greatly frowned upon by most religions was a good comment. The reason? If you know your future then you wont need faith, the very essense of the human soul. Also the expert here very clearly states that Confucianism was way after the I ching. Strange as the most faithful commentaries/interpretations were made by Confucian or his disciples. The I ching relies on Daoist thought for its outlook. The polar opposites etc. This expert failed to convey even the most basic parts of the i ching. I would suggest that he read the book again, shake of his derision against those who are interested in it and perhaps look to explain the main concepts in a simple manner.
There is this movement called 'HyperGrace' in Christianity. It is loosely ensure that the future of any Christians would be Heaven no matter of what happen and that s/he should live in freedom and without burden of the past/sin. IMO, the followers, while knowing the future, are very faithful.
Pactum Excello Very true. In knowing the future, why wouldn’t want to work towards it? If it’s a good one, no doubt people would want to put in the effort and if it’s a bleak future, one would want to work to avoid and better it. The simplistic notion of humans by the religious factions of all kinds puts no faith in the divine and humanity.
How far into the future are the comments referring to. I want to know my options NOW. I love the I Ching because it so accurately reports back ti me where I stand right now, the influences, obstacles and the advantages and what I can do to learn and grow from each. Outcome or 'the future' very much depends on what action i tKe in the here and now. The I Ching does not foretell, it guides you on your current path. The future is of your choosing. Do you ignore the possibility of becoming more conscious or continue along your current path to a lesser outcome ? The choice and outcome is yours to design. The I Ching only advises.
Man I wish the attendees would stop interrupting the instructor with irrelevant questions. Great lecture!

-.- why would Zhuge Liang want his student Jiang Wei to study the Book of Change?
It is said that Zhuge Liang won the Red Cliff by reading the changes that he heavily learnt at I Ching
To that lady questoning if the oracle is 'evil' the truth is that evil is more likely in the eye of the beholder.
I apologize for the woman asking the silly question... seriously, though.
