    I like The I Ching especially because it heightens my sensitivity to contexts. I find the Tao Te Ching reassuring but I often regard it as a dance masquerading in words because the repeating ideas are like repeating gestures. I would not call myself a student of these texts. Instead I have regarded them as travelling companions through many periods of my life. I find The Richard Wilhelm edition of The I Ching very difficult and The Great Treatise within it even more so. I find the Blofeld edition easier on the whole, though I have a few translations. I found your video very relaxing to watch. Because I am autistic I find The I Ching's changeable nature hard to accept at times but I have learned all of the hexagrams and they pop up in my mind in a most agreeable way.

      Hi @walkietalkie1666,
      Indeed, "The Book of Changes," or the **I Ching**, is a profound ancient text offering wisdom on navigating life's transitions. It's a wonderful tool for gaining insight into the ever-changing nature of our experiences.
      If you're exploring the teachings of the I Ching, you might find a lot of resonance with the principles we discuss here. Feel free to join our community to dive deeper into these ideas: facebook.com/groups/wuweiwisdomcommunity/.
      Kind Regards,

    Life didn't get "in the way," I married badly. Being taken for granted results in alienation. A book on philosophical spirituality with symbolism won't save bad marriages. It's not ok to stay with an abuser, one must realize and leave the situation or face certain death. He wanted me dead, until I left. Then reality set in and he realized and begged for me to return to him. Never, literally, will never return to him. He burnt that bridge. Permanently. It's not enough to theoretically make the bacon, one must know what to do with it. There's huge amounts of people clueless, myself included, on managing finances. Clueless, never taught. A book on finding oneself won't pay the bills.

      Skeptic Musings I'm sorry to hear what happened to you. Well I think you know the correct way out already! You know u can't stay in this unhealthy relationship. So u left him already? And u know being financially independent is important, so u r on the right track! U got a job already? Or changed to a higher paid job? Or getting more part time/freelance?
      In fact, David and Alex say in other videos that according to what Taoism suggests, once you have an intention correct (for example, in your case, leaving your unhappy relationship withyour husband and getting more income). Then, the cosmic helpers will help you make your way out! So maybe you will meet a good lawyer helping you on the divorce case and some friends of you may refer you a good jobs etc. So I think David and Alex is suggesting useful / inspirational / encouraging books that may help us live through tough times? No matter what happened, don't say negative things. 💪💪💪💪 Don't discourage yourself!!

      When it's time to go; it's time to go. Whether it's bad marriage, friends, or job. Once we become "our authentic self" as so well put by these two wonder people, we become appropriately brave.!

    Thank you so much for this great introduction! How does the Thomas Cleary translation compare to the Wilhelm? It looked quite dense as well, but I'm afraid I already ordered a copy before finding this wonderful video. 🤣

    Why do you keep reading the teachings, every day? Why don’t you know it after you’ve read it. Are you forgetting what you’ve read? Once one learns to ride a bicycle, one no longer needs to relearn how to ride a bicycle every day. No disrespect, just curious.

    • @WuWeiWisdom

      Hi WizZard,
      Thanks for your question, no disrespect taken :-)
      The Tao Te Ching and I Ching are NOT just about what is written on the paper they are books of deep spiritual inspiration and meaning.
      You probably do not need to be reminded of your 'Shen' (spiritual energy), but I find reading them daily a powerful way of helping my meditations be more effective and reconnect me to my Shen energy in a world with so many distractions.
      But, all of this is very personal and if you only need to read them once that's great and appropriate for you.

    You got the wrong Chinese to translate for you. Dao is not the way or anything else. Taoism is not from the Dao De Jing.

    • @Roy-zd5mc
      @Roy-zd5mc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Low KH I'm Chinese and studied a little bit of Taoism in high school. The word 'Tao'(道) in Chinese can mean 'way/path'(literally) and 'method'. This is what we were asked in the Chinese exams 😆
      Also, I think David got it right. 'Tao Te Ching' is the philosophy of Taoism/Tao's thinking/teaching. Please correct me if I m wrong LOL

    • @lowkh4137
      @lowkh4137 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Roy-zd5mc You are wrong. Tao Te Ching is philosophy about life and how the world came about. It describes what humans would do and what should not have been done. It does not have any good words on the religion and people in power. Tao hs more than one meaning. Chinese writing usually has a preceding or accompanying word to make it precise. Otherwise you would have to read the complete sentence or paragraph to get its meaning.

    • @Roy-zd5mc
      @Roy-zd5mc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Low KH Thanks a lot for your information!! I just quickly read through the original Chinese Tao Te Ching and various modern Chinese interpretions. Well, what I found are still more or less the same as what I learnt in secondary school. LOL Yes I understand what you mean by Tao is philosophy about life. And since there are different aspects of life, e.g. personal life (self), family life, career life, political life (for politicians) etc., Tao Te Ching is highly practicable and applicable as we can use it / interpret it in ways that help us live a balanced life in harmony. You're right. Tao Two Ching is not a religion. My colleague is a Christian and she loves Tao Te Ching a lot and reads it whenever she has pressure / bad times as she says the philosophy of Taoism/Tao Te Ching can help her relieve her stress. Both David and I didn't say Tao Te Ching is a religion xDD Otherwise, my Christian colleague won't read it right? =) Tao Te Ching is a book about the philosophy of the writer cum philosopher Laozi. In Chinese, we don't say it's religion. There are at least 2 translations for the English word 'Taoism', one is the religion of Tao which is another thing and is not related to the book Tao Te Ching. The other translation is Tao's teaching (literal translation), or Tao's philosophy/thinking , to be exact. So I think David is right here. If u really study what 'Tao' means (the first chapter for example), u will know how broad and deep its meanings can be and 'energy' can be just a name / way or whatever it is called to help you understand the flow/way how human and Shen (God/Sky/Heaven/The nature/Surroundings) can be one. Being 'WU WEI' and live as one (human + sky/God/Heaven/Sorroundings/ Nature) is the essence of Laozi's philosophy (as I recalled from my high school learning) LOL I'm gonna go through all original Chinese chapters again. Feel free to discuss xDD

    • @lowkh4137
      @lowkh4137 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Roy-zd5mc The first chapter mentions that this Dao is not the normal Dao we know of and though is thus named, it only is a name that cannot be linked to what we know. Now you tell me that it means path. Do you think that it is right?
