Hello, thank you so much for your review! As the co-founder & Co-CEO of the brand, I confirm that we are expanding our CX team, but the overall satisfaction with the quality of our products is high. The main issue has been delays with Kickstarter, which I fully acknowledge, and I'd say that the AURA project was somewhat overwhelming, though we are now at 99% fulfillment. However, this is not due to the product itself, as the quality of the product is unquestionable. We understand that we need to improve our response speed; we have experienced an unusually high level of inquiries due to Kickstarter deliveries over the last four months. One last comment: It would be fair and accurate in the comparison to mention that the Lumos e-bike helmet is only certified for e-bikes in the Medium size. This means that if you are a size Large or Small, you wouldn’t have the option to purchase that helmet. Again, thank you very much for your review.
Thank you so much for chiming in. It is wonderful to hear your investment. Absolutely love them helmet. Interesting fact about the Lumos e-bike helmet. I’ll do some research as I’m going to do a lumos vs unit 1 video soon!
Any consideration to adding a noise device that could be attached to the helmet? The noise indications she mentioned would be nice, but also a click or beep indicator when the blinker was on. Akin to what you hear in your car.
Very interested in making a large purchase for entire family, but lack of stock for the bike mount kits has prevented me from being able to make the purchase. Any timeline on when mounts will be available again?
@@bgrutterdds Seems easy enough to add via a firmware update if the helmet has any kind of speaker on it, though, given his lack of response to this very issue in *both* videos it seems unlikely.
I enjoyed watching your videos with all the pertinent information and your honest opinions. I had ordered the aura helmet and it had just come in, and then, as I watched your video review, I was almost ready to send it back, because of your criticism. Then I figured that I might as well try to get it set up and going. It turns out that there really are no troubles. The many short tutorial videos on the Unit 1 website are only good descriptions of the features just to tell you what the helmet and the controller supposedly can do, but the videos do not tell you how to make the functions work with any step by step procedures. So they are actually kind of worthless. After playing with the helmet for a couple hours I found out that the button problem is solved by finding the sweet spot to push on. It actually clicks nicely with ease, but from only one angle. On my helmet it is along the bottom edge at the button. Granted, I agree, it is not a great button. Then I found out that after two software releases that showed up over the course of the two hours of my trial and error set up time, I learned how to make the turning signal time length able to be set to manual so it will stay on forever until your manually stop it. You just click the controller button a second time. There are several time length choices, up to 10 seconds and then there is the manual option. Now that I figured this stuff out, without much help from Unit 1, I really do love the helmet for the fit, and the programmable lights. Maybe you might be able to update your video with some less critical comments since the company must have listened to your comments and fixed the software for the turning signals. I think this is the best smart helmet. You can also turn the helmet on and off with the controller, for a short while after it has already been turned on. I still have a lot to learn, but only by trial and error.
Personally don’t need audible indicators. A speaker would likely add unnecessary expense and weight anyway. You can program the indicators so that they flash for 5, 10 second intervals or permanent until you click again to turn them off. And the remote flashes with them so very easy to see at a glance. I’ve had the helmet almost 2 months now and my only issue has been wearing the magnetic visors with my metal frame glasses which keep getting raised and attached to the visor. Other than that the helmet has been perfect.
Like many bike turn signals they just don't seem that obvious and the cadence at which they "blink" isn't fast enough. I don't understand why it's so hard to get right when they can just look at how cars do them. At least they can always update that later...
Hey there, I really appreciate the review. Your video was the last push I needed to buy the helmet. I'd like to share my shopping experience. I'm based in Mexico City, and on my first shopping attempt, I was not able to finish the checkout because Mexico was not on the "Shipping to" list. I wrote an email to the support team, and a few hours later, I got a response, they helped me to place an order. We had some issues with the currency and the exchange rate, but they fixed them pretty quickly. I'm amazed by all the help I got from the support team, and I have nothing but kudos for the team. Now I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the helmet.
You are so right about eye protection! I frequently hit bugs which go in my eyes at speed if I'm not carefully wearing eye protection which could damage my eyes and cause me to crash!
I'm looking for a replacement for my Abus Pedelec 2.0 as it already five years old. What I like about this helmet is the brim. It longer than my current helmet and shade from the sun is nice. This could be a good summer helmet.
I also had a good contact with the customer service. The turnsignals are adjustable: you can change the time they blink. You can find it in the app underneath the remote.
I got the Aura as part of the Kickstarter. I got the full package. I love this helmet. I highly recommend it. My only wish is that one could decrease the lumens of the helmet lights (and there were fun color choices). I also wanted to use it for road riding, but the brightness annoys the cyclists behind. But it's super safe. I use both the Faro and the Aura for my commuting. The visors for cold night riding =💯! Good review.
I find the app very difficult to find my way around. But when I can figure it out I have seen how to change the light level on new custom presets But I wish there was a way to change between presets without using the app. I don’t think you can change the lighting without opening up your phone
Great review. I would like my head lit up. At the same time, for $240, they better have some excellent colors, have a visor, be a generally good bike helmet, occasionally fold my laundry, and have a large size helmet if they hope it will fit on my head. I hope the folks at Aura are very successful, I wish them the best.
Thank you for your review! I’ve spent days reviewing and researching all the helmets available on the market. I found u’r review to be the most informative and helpful! It’s nice to also see that the Co. Founder checked out your video(s) and I’m hoping the CS issues get resolved, that is the core of every longterm successful retail comp in my opinion.
This was on my short list, re-watched your review a few times and then made my decision. When I did I was disappointed to see the controller was a separate add on and at the time your code didn't work. It does now! I think for those looking the code gets the price pretty close with the controller and without it's a good deal, but you don't get the brake like capability without the controller sadly. Anyway, my order is on the way. Thank you for the review and covering the pros and cons.
I've had my aura helmet for a few weeks, ordered with a bunch of lights. I mainly bought it for the magnetic accessories and the light system. I like that the lights come with a charger similar to wireless earbuds. My least favourite thing about it is the comfort: I've owned a couple of road bike helmets in the 80-100 USD range, and their retention strap is superior to the aura.
I have an oval shaped head that’s 59cm round, but narrow, 21cm front to back Tried both a Medium and Large size of this helmet. The Medium was too tight. But the Large is quite wobbly side to side It’s wearable with the fit cranked in, but has lots of room side to side I could get foam to pad the sides, but that might ruin the ventilation Not sure if I’ll keep the helmet or not I like the lights, though I’m not convinced the turn signals will get drivers attention I worry the helmet may give riders a false sense of security It’s important to know drivers still won’t see you I’ve already had drivers not see the signals. So keep an eye out
I would not have given this helmet a second look, but I value your opinion, so I looked. It is actually pretty cool, like what a Storm Trooper would wear to ride a bicycle. I don't need the connectivity junk which is making the price higher, but I do like a lot of the other features.

0:05 so pros going down mountains at 60 mph have helmets that are different how to the one needed for going 15 mph on an e-bike? 5 seconds in and you're making nonsensical arguments. & it looks like a grandma golf hat.
Thanks for the feedback 🙌 good luck on finding the right helmet.
