    Hi Tammy- thank you for this video. Do you have one that goes into more detail? I am pretty sure I have seen it, and would like to watch it again, but I don’t see it on your channel. Was the metal preparation/toner transfer covered in one of the other videos? Thank you.

      Yes, there are quite a few that cover different aspects of the techniques I used. If you look at the details of this video, you can see links to all of those.

    Hi Tammy watch your video. i etch mild steel for rolling mill plates. I also own a Curio and a Silhouette. I use Oracle 651 I think and I cut the design out of it. I cut a large enough piece that I just wrap it around the edges and onto the back. It holds up well. i typically etch my sheets up to 3 hours using a couple different etchants and use cheap aquarium pump and stone for agitation. Works good every 1/2 hour I pull it out, rinse in water bath and put it back in. I also cut a long strip of the vinyl to go over back with a long tail and just fold it over so i have something to pick it up with. We all do things different. The Curio and the Cameo works really good in cutting out most small designs when you get into really tiny its harder. I also have the same bracelet mandrel. I had a machinist drill a hole in the end and thread it on so I can put a washer and I bolt or better hold the different forms in place. That is one of the difference between the Durston model and this knock off that we both own. Enjoy that you take the time to make videos. keep at it.

      Hi Tom! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I have etched a couple of mild steel plates as well and used vinyl for them. You are right that it is difficult to get tiny details and the weeding is a nightmare sometimes. I would be curious to know what etchants you use for that. I have only tried Copper Sulphate, but it seems to work well. I love the bracelet mandrel and I may have to see if I can find someone to modify mine for me. That would make a big difference.

      @@tammybaalman2429 I use a mixture of Muratic Acid and Peroxide as one of my etchants and I do a Ferric Chloride with Citrus Acid ( this can be found at WalMart in the canning section.this is called the Edinberg Etch it is slower but much cleaner and the etch material falls away easier. These I use for etching copper. I use the Copper Sulphate and I believe salt for the mild steel plates. I have found for personal liking I do one etchant and goes to the other back and forth. I really like the deep texture. I prefer Edinberg etch over just using Ferric Chloride that most go to.

      @@rblues4u thanks for sharing! I have used all of those with the exception of Muriatic Acid and Peroxide. It pays to experiment with different methods. I'm still experimenting with different resist methods but so far the vinyl resists and toner on glossy magazine paper have worked best for me.

    Oooh I love this... Can you possibly do a commentary on this one with a few instructions and tips?

      I added 2 videos that provide commentary for the Moon Phases Cuff. You can find the first at th-cam.com/video/XS8hY7Uiaos/w-d-xo.html.

    Love the interchangeable buffer you use. Did you make it yourself or purchase somewhere? Thank you for your tutorial! Beautiful work!

      Thanks Heather! The tool that I am using is called a JoolTool. It is very versatile and very compact so it doesn't take up much space on your workbench. You can purchase all kinds of attachments for it. The buffers I used in the video are a tapered felt inside ring buff and a 3" 30 ply flannel buffing wheel. Both are available at RioGrande.com.

    [First: Excuse me in advance because English isn't my native language]
    Your videos about etching are fantastic and while in general it looks your content doesn't have many views please dont stop they are well done and take time to gain traction in youtube, I'm a jeweler aprentice and the etching process, at least in my country, is a process that those who know how to do it just dont share, in one or another way I have lerned some English so I ended in your channel and your well done videos. Thank you.

      Thank you so much for the words of encouragement. It is greatly appreciated and your English is very good. I am currently working on a new video and should have it posted soon. I have been sick for the last 3 weeks, so I wasn't able to create anything. I plan on continuing to make videos and hopefully my views will grow with time. I'm still new to TH-cam and I know it just takes time to gain traction.

    I have enjoyed your videos and find them extremely clear and helpful. What is the anticlastic mandrel you used for this cuff?

    • @tammybaalman2429
      @tammybaalman2429  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Joanne. I'm so glad to hear they are helpful. The mandrel that I am using is a 10 piece Bangle Forming Die Set that I got from Otto Frei. You can find the one I am using at www.ottofrei.com/Bracelet-Forming-Die-Set-with-Nylon-Hammer?location=1&quantity=1. Splenor Tools has a beautiful one on Amazon at amzn.to/356BC5k, so if you have Prime you can save yourself a lot of money in shipping costs. I have one of their doming sets and it is very well made.

      Here's an even cheaper one that has the full 10 piece set like the Otto Frei version: amzn.to/34ZqpUh. You would just need to get nylon hammers, but you can get those from Harbor Freight if you have one near you.
