    Thank you for sharing your craftmanship and for a good tutorial. I´m a 59 year silver- and leather hobbyist and i have doing it for about 4 years now. Now i am going to try etching. My purpose is to make a silver cuff and i have the idea ready and printed on " press n´peel " paper. Also i have the silver sheet ready but i have not pressed the pattern on the sheet yet. My problem is this. I ordered Ferric Nitrate from UK because here in Finland, you are not allowed to buy it as a private person. I ordered it by mistake too little, 200g , and according the manual you get about 0,7 litres from that amount nitrate. I have problem to find a proper dish so that the nitrate solutions surface is high enough to cover the whole cuff that is 18 cm. My question is, does the silver sheet have to be flat or can i bend it round before etching? Thank you for possible answer. 🙏

    Can we use baking powder instead of using baking soda for the neutralising solution? Baking soda is almost impossible to find in England unfortunately and I have to do my boss' ring in the next 2 days, so I'm on a bit of a time crunch

    hi, I´ve tried this tutorial, and was great the first time great, but the second time I tried the solution did not work, just engraved so little that when i used the 600 grit sandpaper to polish it a little bit the engraving was so superficial that disappeared... why would that be?

    Is there an equally accurate way to create an image into a stone, with a little depth to the image, but without the whitening aftermath on the onyx? Is there maybe an additional step like a wax, a lacquer or sealant to get rid of that whiteness? I'm thinking maybe the white left behind is an illusion due to loss of sheen from lasering. Is that right? I hope you can provide input on that. Thanks in advance! (Very impressive, btw.)

    • @tammybaalman2429
      @tammybaalman2429 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You certainly could, but texturing afterwards ensure your solder join is hidden by the texture. If you size the ring, solder and then apply any texturing over the solder join, the size of the ring will be affected.

    Hi Tammy, thanks for the excellent tutorial and I love your designs! If you have spent feric nitrate solution one step you can take is carefully add sodium hydroxide to a neutral ph. The feric nitrate converts to feric oxide (rust) and you have a much less toxic solution.

    Cool rings! But, forgot the sticky wax. Like Kate Wolfs sticky wax on a the brand I use. It is the first snd lady thing to do, before drilling! the same wax you use on the end of a small stick or similar, to help put tiny faceted stones in snd out of settings. make a glob of it press it yank it out that’s the first thing and easiest thing should do.

    Tammy again I love your videos! You did forget to mention thst the many colors you will see with liver of sulfur (depending on how long you leave it in) those colors don’t last at all. it’s only temporary even if you coated it with a varnish or renaissance wax or anything like that. those colors don’t last more that a little bit. I think if you’re teaching beginners you need to give all the information. I’m sure when you learned about LOL, you learned that. Love the rings!!!
