- It took some time, but Mitsubishi Motors Philippines was finally able to lend us a test unit of its much-awaited seven-seater, the Xpander. It's been in the market for a few months now, and we've had the chance to drive the model a few times, but this was our first time with the vehicle over an extended period. So, what do we think of this potential market disruptor?

I love my xpander. I bought mine in manila coz cebu price was 30k higher due to shipping cost. I drove all the way from Manila brought my family with me (we flew to Manila and drive via Roro via Batangas Mindoro slept in Boracay and went home the ff day via Iloilo Bacolod San Carlos Toledo route. Love the suspensions, we drove fast but you would not even feel it inside the vehicle. The aircon is cool, the seats are well placed so your leg has a lot of room inside. Smooth drive all the way.
This car is keyless and looks really luxurious...more secret spaces. Me and my brother fell in love with it at first glance. So, we're looking forward to drive our own soon. 😊😊😊

Why are alot of people saying diesel would be better? Do they even know the downsides of diesel a engine?
1.) Expensive to build, tataas base price ng kotse.
2.) Pollution, or are you that selfish to not think about the future of the country.
3.) Expensive maintainance (if you say you'll just sell it in 3years then the same can be said for a cheaper gasoline one)
P.S Diesels are naturally torque heavy down in the rev range whereas the gasoline engine (also depends on the gear ratios of the trans) live at the higher end of the rev range . Most likely people that say "walang hatak ang gasolina" are ignorant of the fact that its fine to rev up a gasoline engine .
Question: Are you better than the engineers that builds these vehicles? If so then build one better please.

They just want to be able to use cheaper fuel. After all gasoline is almost 10 peso more expensive per liter than diesel, and consumption is also higher, because each liter of gasoline contain 15% less energy than a liter of diesel. Its all about saving money at the cost of air pollution.

Torque is good for diesel because they have turbo,1.5l petrol for mpv is not that great,it feel sluggish..
Diesel engine's now have Diesel Particulate Filter (PDF) which reduce the emissions significantly.

I think the engine has sufficient power for city driving, after all days ago MMDA said they will strictly implement 60kph. Im sure buyers of expander will not drive this daily to baguio. Buyers of expander are mostly family oriented who prefers comfort, modern look and practicality. Remember nothing is perfect!

Were picking up our 2019 Xpander GLS A/T in early March 2020. My concerns about this vehicle was the fuel pump issue and recall, but the dealer assured us that the fuel pump has been updated and addressed on our vehicle. Also another concern was the safety issue were the only airbags present was for the driver and front passenger and no side airbags for any of rear passengers. We were considering the Toyota Rush but decided on the Mitsubishi Xpander due to price.
Any current 2019 Xpander owners can confirm if the radio is IOS and Android compatible to make/receive calls and play music wirelessly via bluetooth?

You can not underestimate the 1.5 liter and 4 speed AT of the Xpander. It accelerates effortlessly to 100kph and you hardly notice the speed until you check the speedo.
That side crease across the doors makes it look like it belongs to the Honda Jazz & City family........
its a value for money vehicle .its quite ok for family out of towns and city driving.but its not perpect for me bec its not diesel.tho gas engine is fine (fuel efficient)as long as your not fully loaded.but if your not looking for performance but pure practicality lesser than a pick up.ill recommend it.
Here in taiwan TOYOTA WISH is also a family car with 8 seater capacity but MITSUBISHI XPANDER has a impressive design

Great Car for low budget and small family. atleast it will brings you from point A to point B comfortably. power is not an issue for me, considering how bad the traffic everywhere you go in Philippines nowadays. 👍my opinion? only budget and preference differs to others. ☺

in autodeal’s comparo, they gave the Xpander some edge over the Rush and BRV, so I guess this review is still very good
Just be aware, that since that comparo the price of Xpander has gone up 65.000 peso, while the price of the other two is still the same.

Try mong umakyat ng Baguio City, at kung ang sinusundan mo ay mga 10 wheelers na mabagal! . Walang pwersa ang 1.5 engine, Kung naka turbo charge ka, o kaya 2.4 ang makina mo ay confident ka sa overtaking uphill.

You know it's paid when it's all pros and no cons. It is obvious that the xpander has a lot of shortcomings but was never even pointed out or mentioned. I was eager to buy one before but the 1.5L engine mated to a 4-speed AT was a deal breaker for me.
What is breaking the deal on a 1.5L engine mated on a 4AT?
Personally I dont have any problem with this type of vehicle being fitted with a 1,5 liter petrol engine. It keep the price and maintenance cost in check, which is kind of the whole point of buying an Xpander rather than a Montero or Outlander (not currently sold in Ph). I am not excited about a 4 speed AT, but they do offer a manual as well, which is a perfectly acceptable solution for a cheap family car. For 955k the only real drawback of the entry level Xpander is the lack of safety equipment compared to Rush.

To each his own - if you are satisfied with what it has to offer, then good for you. As far as I am concerned there are many similarly priced vehicles I would spend my hard-earned money on, rather than this one. Don't get me wrong, as I said, I had planned to purchase it when I heard about it coming out but after a thorough review and weighing out the pros and cons, I decided to purchase a different vehicle. Personally, I like how it looks and how much space if offers, but that's about it. The main point of my post, however, was about the video being an advertisement rather than a review.

Its an MPV not a sports sedan. The Adventure had 74hp, this has at least 30 more.

Pinili namin talaga expander kc nagustuhan namin , we bought gls sport last march 2020 but after a month nagtaka kmi sa boses ng makina parang barko maingay nakakahiya yung tunog mostly sa ngsabo factory defective daw ayun pinacheck up namin sa mitsubishi abnormal talaga daw ,pinabalik sa planta ka bagobago para ng old car ang boses ng makina, gusto namin palitan ng iba kesa ayusin yung makina kasi 3mos old pa sa kamay namin, yan lng tlga problema namin makina the rest ok nmn ,
adventure is still legendary than expander, old skul type of design is still the best, even though the adventure is not euro 4 the gas consumption is the best and fuel efficient than the expander, kung tipid lang sa gas hindi mananalo ang expander sa adventure kahit sa malayuang ride kahit ilaban pa yang expander sa adventure
Judging from the reception of Xpander in Philippines, it seem like, the majority of car buyers are happy to finally leave the past behind. The main reason, traditional AUVs like Adventure became popular in the first place, was a tax system, which was abandoned all the way back in 2002. Toyota discontinued the Revo just a few years later and gave us the much better Innova instead.
do you have a proof that expander is popular? i dont see any expander in the road, but i see more adventure because the taste of the people is not the looks but the fuel efficient, is the expander is fuel efficient??,.. of course not because its a gas not a diesel
@@berjelpagsibigan8153 The Adventure was sold for 21 years, the Xpander only for a few month, so naturally there are still way more Adventure on the road. Final sales numbers for 2018 are not out yet, but there has been a waiting list for Xpander, and reportedly it outsold Toyota Rush since its launch.
no i see much more toyota rush than expander, because toyota rush is better than xpander it looks like mini innova, for me xpander looks sucks it look like a robot but the toyota rush is simple like the design of adventure, i have a friend who's working in a buy and sell car group the most very reliable and consumer friendly car toyota rush and innova, the sales of mitsubishi goes down because they phase out the adventure so how can you say that the xpander solds out? hahaha,.. i think you are such born a joker because you are bitter in mitsubishi adventure
The Philippine production of Adventure did not stop because of the arrival of Xpander but due to implementation of Euro 4 emissions standards. That being said it sure is nice, that Mitsubishi is finally able to offer a modern MPV rather than a 20+ year old model with rear bench seats like a jeepney.
Its not perfect though. The 4AT is a letdown, when the much cheaper Mirage and the Honda BRV comes with a CVT. And why is it only the top model, that gets stability control? Its really a shame, that Mitsubishi spend money on non-essential equipment like cruise control and backup camera but still skimp on safety.
For me the lack of safety equipment would be reason enough to get the Toyota Rush over the Mitsubishi Xpander. 6 airbags, ABS and stability control should be the minimum for any new car today, and Rush has that even in the base model.

@@mblegend3056 It is, and its a body on frame construction, so the ride is more bouncy than Xpander or BR-V. In South Africa they call the Rush a "gravel travel vehicle". People buy them, because they dont want to pay for an SUV, but they still want to be able to go places, where you would not take a sedan or a crossover. If you dont have that need, Rush is not the perfect vehicle either. Also only the top G model is a 7-seater. Which for me would be fine, but for some people its not.

@@mblegend3056 I see the Rush as a spiritual successor of the traditional AUVs (Revo, Adventure, Crosswind) with modern safety equipment. Xpander and BRV are MPVs with a slightly increased ground clearance. Which is also fine for most people, but the lack of safety equipment is beginning to be unacceptable, now that Toyota have raised the bar with Rush and Vios.
According to some estimates stability control reduce the amount of fatal accidents by 40%. But unfortunately many car buyers are to ignorant to appreciate the importance of something, they can not see. And this is probably why, Mitsubishi fitted more visible but less vital equipment like back-up camera and cruise control instead.
@@fundiver198 Well you can't really blame others because we all have our own unique preferences with it comes to cars. Just simply put that if you want tech and design go for the Xpander, if you fancy the SUV appearance and safety go for the Rush. I have to agree with you that Mitsubishi should've made those safety features as standard across all variants. But thats the price you'd exchange for better tech over other features, keeping in mind to be as affordable as possible. I know its your opinion about cruise control, but some consumers buy the product just because it has standard cruise control, and backup camera, hence again we all have our preferences. The 4-speed AT was the better choice for the Xpander and the Rush, conventional automatics are more reliable and can handle weight better than the CVT counterparts, given the reliability issues of CVT, hence why Mitsubishi only given it to their lightweight subcompact car and hatchback (G4, Mirage), also the reason why you can't see PPVs and SUVs having CVT. The thing is we cannot get all the features that we want given the margin of money (specially with the taxes that are regulated right now) that consumers are willing to pay for to acquire the product, specially here in the Philippines where educated consumers go for the most value for money products.

The GLS Sport should have a 2.0 engine! Or 2.5 engine displacement. Overtaking is one problem of small engines. You are safer on bigger engines.

mitsubishi adventure is still the best than expander, tipid pa sa gas because its diesel, wrong move lang ang mitsubishi philippines dahil tinanggal nila ung adventure, sa 22o lang maraming mas gusto ang adventure dahil pang family tlga at kaya hanggang sampung katao mas madami ang bumibili ng adventure noon tinalo pa nila ung crosswind pero ngyn, crosswind na ang mabenta sa family at mlakas sa market sna ibalik ng mitsubishi ang adventure
The Adventure did not live up to Euro 4 emissions standard, which came into place in Philippines on 1. january 2018. It was an outdated, slow, unsafe and polluting vehicle, so its good, Mitsubishi finally stopped making them.

For a review, you guys should rent the cars and not allow the manufacturers to lend you the cars as it’ll show bias. Rent, borrow then say what you really want about the car. “Fantastic legroom?” Really???
Ideally yes but there are a few reasons, why its not really realistic. First brand new models are often not available as rental cars yet. And second there is not that much money in reviewing cars, so they have to keep their costs down. Remember they had to stop selling the magazine, so now they rely only on ad revenue on the internet to survive.

Yap wala namang perfect na sskyan may mga flaws parin naman when it comes to specs, but issue is still an issue that has to be fixed kahit mgkano pa ang price, hndi naman biro bbili ka ng ssakyan na may sira. For a car that is worth Million na may issue sa airbag (rush) is unacceptable lang. Para hassle free.

One thing i find it really akward on the xpander is that it only comes with a 1 piece car horn.

Maybe he just did not do his research properly. But its true, its a misrepresentation of facts. The Rush has 4 more airbags than Xpander, and it has stability control in all models not just the TOTL version.
Toyota Rush did great when it comes to safety features. But will it be a good reason to consider it better than the Xpander?
Argel Cruz The Rush has more safety features but the Expanda is longer, wider and has more room for passengers. Both of them only have 1.5 litre motors and 4 speed auto but they are family vehicles and more features would mean a higher price. I didn’t buy either of them, although I almost bought a Rush. But after seeing how small the rear seat was I decided to buy an Innova for my family.
Not mentioned: ONLY 10km/l fuel efficiency. The AAP said 21 but they don't know math.
