The Syria The Media Won't Show You 🇸🇾

  • 🇸🇾 I always thought the Middle East was just rock and sand and full of fanatical nutters. I mean that's all the media ever show us isn't it. And so to cast off my ignorance and prejudice I travelled down to the country with probably the worst reputation of all, Syria. I was joined by Wales's most famous culinary expert ‪@SimonWilson12‬ ( check out his channel for his videos from the trip ) and our new Syrian mate Rami for a journey that both educated and surprised us. Maybe it will surprise and educate you a little bit too and next time you watch some depressing news report from the country you will be able to better draw your own conclusions. Watch this ( the longest video I have ever made ) and find out for yourselves. Shukran habibis.
🇸🇾 I used an independent tour agency to travel to Syria. www.marrota.com
I highly recommend them if you are considering visiting. The manager can be contacted here: ayoub@marrota.com

Bald usually disappears for a while at the end of a trip to somewhere dangerous, everyone thinks he’s dead, and he just pops up at the most random of places. It’s a great cycle.

As a Syrian that has been outside Syria for almost 7 years now, this video was an emotional Rollercoaster.
My grandfather owns a bookshop in old Damascus since the 1940s, the one that you were standing in front of it as Simon met his fan 10:55 , you can even see my name on it since me and my grandfather have the same name 😁.. and for a moment I remembered when I was a kid, the amount of tourists that came every day to get guides and maps. It's very sad that no tourist would consider Syria for a vacation anymore.
Great video Benjamin, thanks a lot for showing the real beauty of this country.
It was very heartwarming and for 50 minutes it felt like being back home.

Syria in 2022 is quite safe in the 90% of the country where Assad has held or reasserted government rule. The Western sanctions are what are still making life for regular people very difficult, in addition to the Western-backed jihadists and rebels still active in certain parts of the country. That’s why the mainstream media isn’t showing us this reality on the ground-it goes against the narrative the West has been striving to create in this wonderful country.
Oh, and what nation has actually come to the help of Syria, upholding its democratically-elected government, supporting its struggling economy, defending its indigenous Christian minorities against ISIS and other radical Islamic extremists backed by the West? Surprise, surprise-it’s Russia.
No wonder the West doesn’t care for the truth when it comes to Syria (or at least does it’s best to make sure _you_ don’t know the truth).

It is great to be reminded that there are kind and loving people in every country but it is also important to understand that terrible governments like the Assad regime can only function if a significant number of their citizens support and actively commit violence and repression. As much as I enjoy Ben's videos, he is being a "useful idiot" by allowing a government minder to present the lie that the civil war was due to foreign interference. The Syrian civil war started when Assad and his Army violently suppressed peaceful protests of people seeking democratic reforms. If they don't like foreign interference they should ask Russia and Iran to leave.
