As an Arabic speaker, the experiences the former prisoner was telling you about sound even more harrowing when you hear it in his native tongue. He was talking about how he still carries the trauma of the prison gaurds knocking the cell doors, and how even after liberation, whenever a door was knocked at home he would revert to that same level of panic and fear. Rami did an excellent job of interpreting this story back to you.

Thats how I am whenever I hear people talking a room away or behind a door. Its instant panic and, even after damn near a decade, I still find myself having to talk myself down and remind myself that I'm safe. @yuzuchi5381

I'm a historian, and seeing this, it's just history happening in front of me (us)! But i couldn't stop thinking: we must archive all of that information that it's just abandoned throughout the prison itself. That way is the only way to preserve the memory of the grotesque actions that the Assad regime has done to its people. The detainees photos... if they're not preserved (archived), the future generations will not remember this. Great video!!

Indeed. ALL of the papers, photos and books should be scooped up, analyzed, documented and guarded. An example from history I remember, when the fall of Saigon happened, with the famous scenes of the US embassy evacuations.. Afterwards, All of the shredded papers left behind in were gathered up and meticulously pieced together.

The detainess that were freed from those prisons, are political detainess ( people who just wanted freedom for syria, or any other normal reason). We cannot comprehend the terror and suffering that people here must have gone through. You bring sights unseen to most of us with full information and input from locals who understand. I was upset though by how you threw down the photograph of the young woman. That action seemed to be further discarding of her as we would not know if she ever got to be free.

The Assad regime was demonic and it’s great that they are gone. But what replaced them is also bad, DO NOT trust the HTS and SNA. There are already reports emerging of crimes and attacks committed against ethnic and religious minorities. The SNA also ethnically cleansed the Kurdish population of the Afrin region of Syria.
I truly, truly wish the best for the people of Syria regardless of their ethnicity or religion and i hope some sort of closure, peace and justice prevails after years of suffering from war, dictatorship and terrorism.
Yet, i am afraid that one regime was simply replaced by another one.

In my country, prisons are usually very ill maintained and overcrowded. If you remove the prisoners, they won't look much better than those prisons presented in the video. It is also worth noting that those places were certainly looted and that there was probably an attempt to erase evidence by burning documents in some cases (I already saw a video from some news outlet that covered that attempt of destroying information in several places).
