- The 2023 Volkswagen Golf R-Line is powered by a CAT A friendly 1.5 litre eTSI engine with mild hybrid technology paired to a 7 speed dual clutch transmission. Not to be confused with the range topping Golf R, or the Golf GTI, the Golf R-Line features 18 inch alloy wheels, sports seats, R-Line flat bottom multi-function steering wheel, carbon inlays on the dashboard, and R-line bodykit and side skirts.

👍 Nice
thank you sir!
Great video, but isn't the eTSI 150 BHP because of the eletric motor?
This is actually a 129 BHP version. Not sure if it’s available anywhere else in the world, but in Singapore it’s been tuned down to fit within Category A COE. It’s essentially a tuned down version of the 150 BHP car. Both are mild hybrid.
@@roadpilgrim Oh interesting, I had no idea - thanks!
Whats up with screen going blank every 2 sec when going reverse?
lol thanks for pointing it out. Strange huh? I actually didn’t actively notice that. Must have been too busy trying to remember what I wanted to say.
hey bro, would like to ask. How does the golf compare to other germans like the 1 series and also the a class? Im considering either of them but the price difference between the bmw and the golf isnt that big right now. Appreciate your thoughts!
Hey man! It’s a great question and a very valid point of consideration. If brand is your priority, I think it’s no contest, the 1 series will bring your much more value for the price. In terms of drive, both cars are very capable in terms of handling, but I think it’s important to note that the Golf is a 4 cylinder vs the 1 series’ 3 cylinder. This means the Golf is going to feel much more at ease when pulling at higher speeds above 120km/h. Economy wise, the Golf is likely better as well, as the mild hybrid tech and coast mode is excellent. Still, can’t go wrong with either car - both are excellent. Hope that helps.
@@roadpilgrim Hey! Thanks for getting back so quickly. To be very honest, Im not concern about the badge at all. I want the best deal possible (long term) as its going to be a daily driver for me and my incoming infant haha!
Do you have any experience with the reliability of the golf/ bmw 1 series? I have heard stories about the golf or any VW as a matter in fact about its gearbox issues.
Then we have the bmw thats not known for its reliability as well right.
Also, I am leaning towards the golf as I have sat in my friend's Roc and boy did it feel planted. The engine just pulls so effortlessly and i feel like it can handle so much more power if it wanted. Havent had a chance to drive a 1 series as of now tho!
I believe the 1 series is also due for a facelift too so i think ill be waiting for it to be released before deciding. And also praying for the coe to come down more hahaha.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
Do you know if it’s still on dry clutch?
Yes it's still using the 7 speed DQ200 dry clutch transmission - but from what I understand, the gearbox has had hardware and software upgrades since the MK7 generation through to the MK8 generation now.
@@roadpilgrim coming from VW, it still doesn’t instill much confidence- Malaysia is getting the auto gearbox..
@@Dr3aMz1982 Well, personally I think they are great transmissions. One of the most intuitive mechatronic units out there in terms of gear selection. It’s also incredibly efficient in a non-performance application.
I think we hear a lot of the noise about these transmissions being bad or unreliable - but when you ask these people if they had one of these trannies that failed, they almost always tell you “no, I have a friend that did”.
So to each his own, but I think unless you’ve had a terrible incident with an older version of this tranny (which then explains your sentiment), you’re missing out on a really really good gearbox.
Personally I have had 2 MK6 Golfs in the past - both of which did not give me issues. They were wonderful. DQ200 transmission.
What abt the boot space? Why didnt show?
Just check the brochure my friend. My reviews are generally made in a way where I share my takeaways from driving the car. I do share some figures occasionally, but that is usually to give context to the opinions that I give. If you want pure figures - you can check the website or the sales brochure, because guess what? I get the numbers from there as well.
