    Thanks I have a 7.5 hp I'm glad I'm not the only one having a hard time getting the lower unit on, good tip about turning the prop while pushing it on.

    I have and use a 3.5 Clinton (K-350) the little tube that frustrated you is so simple, just take a piece of string looped around the tube and have the string come out through the water vent hole in the lower leg (you looked into it) the motor turns 360 degrees on the saddle, just turn the leg and pull the string a little to line the pipe into the water pump receiver.

    Thanks for sharing. I have a similar ESKA that is 7HP. Does the gas tank on the top need to vent in order for the fuel to be gravity fed correctly? My gas cap does have a screw at the top, but loosening the screw did not provide venting when I removed and cleaned the tank. Curious if you loosened the gas cap slightly to provide venting before starting?

      I no longer have this motor, but as I remember the gas cap has built in vent. Good luck with your project! 👍

      Find the smallest drill bit you have make sure it's small drill a hole in the center of the cap hopefully you don't have to take the motor off or you'll have to empty the gas

    What’s the fuel mixture you used?

    • @HypergaugeDIY

      24:1 gas to oil ratio.👍

    I have a 1974 Eska 7hp I'm trying to check the same thing but after I remove the nut and bolt from front and back of the lower unit I cannot pull it out any suggestions?

    • @HypergaugeDIY
      @HypergaugeDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching my video. Inside the lower unit there is the main drive shaft which is supposed to bite onto the motor gear, then there is also the water pump tube that is connected to the little pump housing. Normally it does not take much to pull them out. Something is likely corroded in your case. If turning the propeller while pulling it does not help, your option is limited. If you must use force, go easy and slow. I have seen cracked housing before. Good luck with your project.

    I have a 1980s 7.5 Hp Gamefisher that I'm going to be working on.
    I was wondering if there were any gaskets on any of those parts of the lower unit that you took apart.
    Also doesn't the lower unit have
    OIL that should be changed?

    • @HypergaugeDIY
      @HypergaugeDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't recall the lower unit has any gasket. Yes, you need to change the oil. I showed it in this video th-cam.com/video/AkXKBwey2Cs/w-d-xo.html Good luck with your project.

      Thanks I've gotten my 7.5 hp going.
      After soaking the Carb and
      Getting a rebuild kit I changed out the plug, an in line fuel filter and fuel lines. The float was tricky since
      The 11/64 measurement didn't work. The needle bottomed out in
      The seat as expected and I adjusted the tab on the float. It still worked.
      I think I need an impeller as the water sprays intermittently and
      I will attempt to change the lower unit fluid. Thanks Again for the vids.

      @@Janotes have you done a impeller replacement? I just got a 1986 7.5 gamefisher and it kinda mists water out the rear of the shaft I think exhaust holes. Doesn’t have a steady stream what so ever. Wondering if you replaced it and had any luck

    • @Janotes

      @@robertreno911 I havent replaced the impeller yet.. I was able to buy one at Discount Marine Parts...
      DIcarbparts xxxxx
      They have a page where you can cross reference the serial number from either the motor or carburetor.
      My particular motor was a 217.××××× . The motors from what I understand were either made by Eska or Mercury Force...
      I did see some videos on line about the impeller replacement on these motors and I will try soon. Good luck.
      Again search on line there is some info out there.
      👍👍👍👍- To Hypergauge for starting the conversation..

    I don’t see the water pump housing on mine so I don’t know if mine doesn’t have one because it’s a air cool engine or what?

    • @HypergaugeDIY
      @HypergaugeDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should be easy to find your outboard schematic with the part number and check if it has a water pump or not. Air cool usually refer to the motor, but these kind of old outboard almost always has water pump to cool the exhaust to help lower the overall temperature. Good luck with your project.

      I think I’m having the same problem, I have a sears 3.5 that runs great but just wasn’t spitting water from the exhaust port, no water pump housing or impeller was found once I took apart the lower unit as seen in the video. Could this mean potentially my model doesn’t need even tho it’s air cooled I thought the same as it need to cool the exhaust system.

    The engine is air cooled the exhaust is water cooled

    • @HypergaugeDIY
      @HypergaugeDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. My guess the idea is cooling the exhaust so entire motor will be maintain within operation temperature.
